Absolutely HORRIBLE it's been almost a year and we still do not have our deck or garage. Come to find out this contractor has been sued at least 2 times already and has attachments on his assets, therefore he is not even suable. We checked with the BBB, they said there were NO COMPLAINTS against him. (That was a lie!) Now it's going to cost us an additional $12,000. to get this mess fixed!
Description of Work: In August 2006, my husband and I hired Bob Baird & Son Drywall to build a garage addition to our home. He agreed to build this structure with a deck over it, and a sunken hot tub installed. On multiple occasions, we asked Mr. Baird to furnish a written contract outlining services to be rendered and associated costs. However, such a document was never provided. In late September 2006, we were informed by Mr. Baird that the project would be completed in approximately three weeks. Unfortunately, the crew that was sent by Mr. Baird to construct the garage seemed to possess questionable qualifications. They often worked unsupervised (although Mr. Baird was present on a few occasions), and would rarely put in more than a few hours at a time at our location. In late October 2006, the structure was still not completed. More importantly, Mr. Baird s employees had built the roof in a fashion that was not agreed upon in advance. Our plans had called for the roof to be constructed at an angle, allowing rainwater to run off. However, Baird & Son built a flat roof, which has resulted in rainwater running back off the roof and down our interior walls! There were also no support beams in the steel for the ceiling and overhead garage door as instructed by the steel engineer. In October 2006, our community s Building Inspector ordered the operation to be ceased, and attempted to hold a meeting of all contractors involved in the project. All other parties involved were willing to attend this meeting. Mr. Baird, however, was not willing to cooperate with the building inspector. Rather, Mr. Baird decided to accost me with vulgarities, and actually threatened me with physical bodily harm! My concern for my own personal safety was so great that I filed a report with the Winchester Police Department. As I have outlined, the patterns of negligence and abuse on Mr. Baird s part have been quite severe. This project has been not only a financial burden to me, but it has resulted in a great deal of emotional distress. Furthermore, the structure has not yet been completed. I hope that you take all of these factors into account when rendering your decision on this matter. An estimate to have this project taken apart and redone is: $12,248.00. Expenses for new contractor to try and repair the roof: $450.00. Storage fee from the overhead door company for storage of door: $300.00. Additional storage fee, garage wasn t finished before winter: $65.00 X 7 months=$455.00. Attorney fee 45 min. & $185.00 an hour $135.00. Electrician fee to remove and reinstall electrical $1,500.00. TOTAL ADDITIONAL EXPENSES & COST TO COMPLETE PROJECT: $15,088.00.
