Description of Work: It went very well, they planned 6 feet of ice barrier where others were only doing 3 feet and did not ask for extra money. They came on the week I requested without hassel. I have no negatives to report only postive. I have recommended them to others without a hesitation.

They did a fabulous job. They did what he said they were going to do. We loved the roof. They did a really nice job cleaning up after they left and disposing of everything. They left the area nice and clean.

We needed a new roof as our 15-year-old roof with three-tab shingles had double layers of shingles in places, some of the shingles were wearing out, and we had a lot of moss and lichen growth. We had originally planned to paint the house first and then get a new roof, but Rick from Talbot Roofing explained that because of the double layer of shingles over the garage, it would be best to replace that first so there wouldn't be a shingle-width gap in the new paint on the house once we redid the roof. So we changed our plans. Rick was really great to work with. He was willing to drive out to meet with us very quickly despite his busy schedule. He explained things very clearly, which was helpful as this was our first time replacing a roof. He was very up front from the beginning about what additional costs might be (for replacing decking, for example) so we weren't surprised with the price tag when some issues came up. Talbot Roofing gets the job done QUICKLY. We paid the deposit just before a long holiday weekend, and on the Wednesday after that, we had the roofing shingles waiting on our driveway. The dumpster they hired arrived Thursday morning at around 7:00 AM and that went very smoothly. By 7:30 Thursday the crew had arrived and the old roof was down by 10:30. At about 9:00 I got a call from Rick about some problems with the roof over the garage... there was some water damage and rot and some carpentry had to be replaced. He got me a quote for it quickly and it was under $500. By about 4:30 the roof was finished, and the crew finished cleaning up by about 6:30. My husband found I think one nail, a cigarette butt, and a coffee cup, but considering they cleaned up a small mess of dead leaves that we had left on the driveway, I'll call it even. The new roof is gorgeous. The shingles they used were very well reviewed and there was a great choice of colors. I'm confident this roof will last us a long time.
Description of Work: New roof on 1500-sq-foot cape. Architectural shingles, ridge vents. Replaced some decking and rotted fascia boards.

The work was excellent; Bob Talbot was very punctual and flexible and easy to deal with. With a crew of about 10 guys, they did the whole job in about 5 hours just before we were to have a snow storm. They cleaned up very well too. The only problems were no communication with us from the workers when they arrived to explain their plans, and one time when my wife went down cellar, she discovered one worker in our cellar without permission who had plugged in his cell phone and stood there with the cellar door open talking on the phone. As I shared with Bob, that would have been fine to do if they had just asked first. Other than those things, everything was great.

I was running out of prime time to install a new roof as it was mid January. Bob of Talbot Roofing was able to schedule the job on very short notice and on probably the last good work day of the season. A crew of 8 showed up on time and got the job completed and cleaned up well in one day. I am very impressed and I would recommend their services.
Description of Work: Services performed: Estimate for work. Bob came out to the house and followed up with a written detailed estimate. Communication via e-mail and phone to set up the job Removal of old roof and installation of new one, including new roof vent among other things Clean up

I was very happy with the job overall. Rick was very professional, helpful, and down to earth. As an engineer who happens to work in sales, I'm very picky about the people I'll do business with, especially when it comes to doing work on my home. In general I don't trust anyone to do it but myself, but this job was just too big for me to take on. When I had Rick out to assess the existing roof and gutters, I didn't feel like he was trying to sell me anything. He explained every aspect of the job to my satisfaction, which is no small task -- I ask a lot of questions and am pretty good at reading people. On the second visit (before I had committed to them), he also took the time to climb up and test out my existing gutters and explain what they would do differently and why. He also gave me some options and explained the tradeoffs between them. I had other roofers out to give me estimates as well, some were higher, some were lower, but what Rick recommended for the job and what he quoted me made the most sense. What impressed me the most is that they did all of that "unplanned" work around my chimney at no extra cost. They could have just left some if it as it was, never told me about it, and I may never have known. But they wanted to do the job right and do it completely, so they ended up spending several hours to do just that. And what I paid was what was quoted to me originally. The only reason I gave them a "B" on quality instead of an "A" is that there were a couple of things that they missed along the way, and I felt that if I wasn't out there to point them out and have them taken care of, they might have been left unaddressed. One of them was some screw holes in the siding where one of the downspouts used to be before they moved it. I asked them to fill the holes in, which they did without any trouble. The other was one of the downspouts was left with only an elbow on the bottom, which would have dumped water only a few inches from my foundation. I asked them to put a longer piece on to divert the water farther from the house like I had it before. Both of these things they may have found on their own before they left and I may have just brought it to their attention before they noticed themselves, but I had enough doubt to mention it. Of course this might just be me being way too picky. I'm an engineer...it's a disease :-) Overall, I'm very happy with the work they did. And btw, it held up to Irene which hit only hours after they finished. I would not hesitate to use Talbot again or recommend them to anyone. They're a quality company, do quality work, and were very easy to deal with.
Description of Work: I had my Talbot strip off my old roof, from both the house and the attached garage, and replace it with a new one. I also had them replace my gutters. As part of the roof replacement, they had some work to do around my chimney. Some of that work was planned, such as building a cricket behind the chimney to divert water so that it wouldn't pool behind the chimney, and some of it was not planned. For example there was some flashing missing on one side of the chimney that could have allowed blowing rain to get behind the siding. So they spent several hours working solely on items related to the chimney, again some planned and some unplanned.

It went very well. We had a great amount of snow on our roof from the continues winter storms and they got it all off and did it in a timely manner and were very professional and one time and on budget. Would use Talbot Roofing again!!!!
Description of Work: Very good service and timing. They showed up when they said they would and used enough manpower to get the job done right and done on time. Took the deep snow off our roof and cleaned the piles away from the house and off the deck when they were done. They also reduced some ice dams. I would use them again for anything pertaining to my roof. I was happy with their service!!!

We solicited a number of quotes from several companies and selected Talbot based on their commercial roof background. Some of the other quotes were from residential roofers that just didn't seem as professional. In addition, we wanted to use a cedar replacement composite material (Enviroshake) for its 50 year warranty instead of natural cedar where we would be lucky to get 15 years life. We were very pleased with our choice. Once the work was started (it was delayed about a week due to inclement weather), they stayed on task until the job was done (about one week, working over the weekend). The crew was professional and scheduled the roof tear off in sections so the plywood decking was never exposed to the elements. In addition, when rain was forecast for the next day, one workman repaired a section of the old roof to prevent any leaks even though they wound up stripping off those shakes the next day after the rain -- a little extra attention to customer service that wasn't expected. The new roof weathers nicely and as an added benefit sheds snow very easily, reducing ice dam formation. In short, we had a very good experience with Talbot and recommend them without reservation.

I received three quotes, one being $1500 less than Talbot's and the other one was in line with Talbot's quote. I picked Bob because he was professional, was patient explaining everything, and gave me the confidence that he could get this job done right the first time. I also checked him out on Google and with the BBB, and others were very pleased. Since his company is certified by the shingle manufactorer, the shingle manufactorer offers a 10 year transferable warranty on everything, including labor and displosale of all shingles, if there is ever anything wrong with the roof. This was a big selling feature. The shingles have a 30 year warranty. I recieved Bob's quote via email within a few hours, and we accepted the quote the next day. He only required a $500 deposit. Typically they start the job within 10 days, but we had a lot of rain and also told him that we were not available during a certain week, so 5 weeks later he started the job. He kept in contact with us because of the delays, and this was not an issue. His team of 5 showed up at 7:15 AM on the day he said he would be there, and they got right to work. Supplies were delivered at 8 AM. Bob was on site by 9 AM, and his team provided an assessment of the work that needed to be done since they had stripped the back of the roof. Bob went over the work with me, and I went to work for the day. His team worked until 8 PM that night, and has the roof and the vents completed. They showed up the next morning at 8:30 to complete the gutter and finish cleaning up. The dumpster was removed by 10 AM, and in 24 hours the job was completed, and exceeded my expectations. The roof looks great and does not compare to the old roof. No more water stains and leaks! The gutter and the roof vents looks fabulous too. The team really worked hard, and it is great to find a company that takes pride in their work. As I mentioned, we did not go with the cheapest quote, and it really paid off. I would hire them again and recommend their work to my family and neighbors! On the last day I paid him the final balance.
Description of Work: Talbot Roofing installed a new roof on my 11 year old colonial, including the garage roof. While the roof was only eleven years old, we had water damage on the north side of the house, due to ice dams and poor installation of the roof. We also had leaks between the house and garage. They stripped the roof, replaced 12 sheets of ply wood, re-nailed the roof, added a six foot ice/water sheild, and installed a special barrier on the rest of the house. The re-shingled the roof and added all of the proper ridge vents, etc. They also fixed the gutter on the back of the house (pulled off the broken one and installed the new one), and installed 2 bathroom roof vents.

I have a 97 year old slate roof. There were slates that had fallen off and some others were displaced after ice and snow damage. The chimney was leaking down the outside, and it brought water all the way down into my basement. Talbot sent his slate man, Lou Rondeau, to my home to do the repairs. He worked safely, slate is a problem to work on. He replaced the missing slates, repaired ones that had slipped and removed and replaced the lead flashing on my chimney to keep the water out of the house. He fixed a crack in the cap on the chimney. He also checked later, after a heavy rain, to see if it was still leaking. He was pleasant, prompt, and tidy and professional. The leak is fixed and I am ready for next winter. I will call him again to do my roof work. The only problem was a mix up between the home office and the repair person on just when to arrive. Once that was ironed out, he was there when he said he would be.
Description of Work: Replaced missing and damaged slates. Removed and replaced the lead flashing on the base of the chimney. Repaired the crack in the chimney cap. Checked to see if the work was successful.
