I hired Matt after a no-callback and a no-show from two other contractors. I wish I found him first as he came by when he said would, got me a quote in under a day, and showed up to do the work. He and Austin spent about 8 hour putting up blue board over an old ceiling and in a closet, three coating everything, and touching up dents and areas where the trim had damaged the horse-hair plaster. Everything looks good, they definitely breathed new life into an old room. The plaster's about dry now, ready for a final quick sanding, primer and paint. I'm not going to bother calling anyone else the next time I'm looking to have plaster work done, Preferred Skimcoat gets my money from now on.

Do not go any further!! The quality of the work done by Matt Dillon and his crew is just unbelievable. I am absolutely amazed at what he was able to do with this project. He showed up on time to look at the job. The proposal was sent, followed up, and committed to. The day of the job, everything was covered in plastic to minimize cleanup, he did extra work that he saw that I had missed and never mentioned it. The swirled ceilings he told me he would do his best to match. You cannot see where the new ends and the old begins, what an artist. Quality, fair price, and done on time. What more could you ask for.

The quality of the job was excellent. I wish there were an A+ rating; Preferred Skimcoat would get it. The transformation of the space is amazing. Matt and his crews were polite, neat, and talented at their work. The edges (the ceilings had unusual peaks) are crisp, and the plaster finish smooth. They cleaned up the area when they were through. If I had questions, Matt responded in a timely fashion and was able to keep me up to date on when the project would finish so I could update my schedule and keep subsequent contractors informed. A friend who is a fastidious painter (and painted the ceilings) said it was the best plaster job he had ever followed. There was no real additional finishing the painter had to do. He just primed and painted. The painter actually thanked me for finding some one so excellent. I have phase II planned for next year and I will adjust the schedule to make sure Preferred Skimcoat can complete all the drywall/ceiling work. As I am are still rehanging the lights, I can't post before and after photos at this time, but will as soon as the lights are back up.
Description of Work: I purchased a condo that needed updating and the first project I tackled was remedying the popcorn ceilings... dated and dull looking. I wanted smooth ceilings in a catherdral ceilinged, open, living space and stair well, three bedrooms (one with a cathedral ceiling), kitchen dining area, and associated spaces (closets, powder rooms). +/-1900 square feet

We completely remodeled our home and he did the blueboard and plaster of the entire house. He included durrock in the bathroom and did a great job with our 9 foot vaulted ceilings. We compared costs to 3 different blueboard/plaster companies and Matt had the best price.

Matt and his crew did a great job on a fairly difficult room. The room in question has a full peaked, cathedral ceiling with no horizontal area at the top as well as long, outside corners. The lines on those peaks and corners is perfectly straight. The rest of the house is also veneer plaster and Matt did a much better job than whoever did the rest. In addition to the great results, I was very impressed with how neat they were especially considering how messy the job is. I would definitely hire them again.

From the time I originally sent Matt a message regarding the job to the completion of the job Matt was extremely responsive and was great to work with. He came to my house quickly to provide a quote, which was very competitive and then was able to schedule the work quickly. Most importantly, his plastering was high quality and looked great.

Matt and his crew were awesome. They were punctual and worked well with other subcontractors on the job. Furthermore, unlike some of our other subs, they were able to address some of the unique challenges presented by post and beam construction (high, angled ceilings, etc.) without looking to me (homeowner/GC) for the answer. Would definitely recommend them to others and will hire them down the road for other projects.

Matt and his crew did excellent job skim coating the ceilings of our entire house. They showed highest level of professionalism, they arrive on time, protected walls and floors and they finished on time. They cleaned up all the areas before they left. It was pleasure working with them. I hope all the contractors show the same professionalism. The best part I liked was that Matt himself worked with the crew and in the end of the job he went around the house to see if it needs any touchup.

We have worked with many contractors over the past few years between building a house and gut renovating another and I must say that Matt is the best of those we worked with. He prompt in responding and completed the work in a timely fashion.. Other contractors who were higher priced told us we needed a carpenter to do some work before we could have the blue board installed. They also said there was a three week backlog. Matt's team started within a week and did an excellent job. I only wish we had known about the company before we did the work on the main part of our house and our rental property. It would have saved a lot of time, money and grief.

I called Matt Dillon, Preferred Skimcoat, on a Friday afternoon, 3/14/14. He returned my call on 3/17 and arranged to view the ceiling the next day. Realizing that I wanted a permanent cure and that the chances were high that the rest of the ceiling may begin to peel, he suggested the alternative of a new ceiling. He explained the process, what would be involved. I was pleasantly surprised when I asked when this could be scheduled - the following week. We came to terms with a price - he took into consideration that I am a senior and got his name through Angie's List. Originally the work was scheduled for the 28th. He called later that week saying he had a cancellation and asked if they might come out the 27th. I agreed. The crew of 3 (Matt and two assistants) arrived outside my home at 6:50 AM and knocked on my door at precisely 7 AM as he had promised. Everything had been removed from the kitchen/dining area (as instructed) except a baker's rack that I could not remove - they carefully did so. The team literally covered the walls, frig, ceiling fan, windows and doorways with plastic. A floor covering was also laid down. They scraped the ceiling where needed, put up an adhesive mesh and then a coating of Durabond. As that set, they went off on a short lunch break. They returned to coat the plaster. The men cleaned up after themselves, and repositioned the baker's rack. All in all, the men were efficient, quiet/good humored and professional. I was/am pleased with the work done and would highly recommend the company.
Description of Work: I had a kitchen ceiling that continued to peel in one specific area over the last several years. Painting contractors tried to remedy the situation, but paint in those areas would not adhere to the original plaster (1962). There was no moisture and only high quality materials had been used. I wanted a permanent solution.

Such a great experience! Turnaround time was amazing. We had Matt to our house for an estimate and two days later they were starting the job. I know they bent over backwards to get this done because we were having our walls pained within two weeks and really needed the plaster job DONE asap! The ceilings look amazing! Long after Matt and his crew had packed up for the day, my husband realized he needed some help with one of the light fixtures that needed to be re-hung. Matt showed up BACK at our house (and he lives a good half hour from us) and worked with my husband to get everything right. This was sooooo not in the job description but he just did it.. which to me speaks volumes about the type of company he keeps. Hire him!

The end result was nothing short of amazing. Don't think because the work was finished quickly that it lacked quality. The walls were dry and smooth, the room itself was clear of any dust and the textured ceiling they did looked great! The walls were done and ready to paint immediately! It would have taken me 3 days to do what these guys did in a matter of hours. It was money well spent and I would highly recommend Preferred Skimcoat to anyone that needs help with their renovations. It will save you time, money and the headache of doing it yourself!
Description of Work: From the moment Matthew came by to quote me an estimate, he was honest, professional and extremely friendly. He even gave me some suggestions based on his own experiences that would save me some money down the road on my renovation projects. Matthew and his peer finished my 19 x 16 room is less than five hours and made sure the place was clean before, during and after it was completed.

Matt provided excellent service. He was responsive and the quality of the work was excellent. The clean-up was great and very much appreciated, so that when they left we had essentially nothing to do to further clean up the house. The finished product was very smooth and uniform. The attic part of the garage "firewall" was hard to reach, but they did the work most satisfactorily. Our only issue was the last day change in schedule of the wallboard "hanger" who came on a Saturday rather than the previous Thursday, which delayed the work a few days...... turned out to be a non-problem, but we were concerned because we were entertaining 25 people that Saturday afternoon. However the hanger was long gone before the party started! Price was good and the job quality and clean up were much better than the last plasterer we hired.
Description of Work: Hung blueboard and skim coated two closets, one 12 by 14 foot foyer, one 24 foot by 8 foot garage wall and 24 by 4 foot associated kneewalll in the attic space above ( done with 5/8 inch fire rated board) plus a couple of small "fix ups" to some damaged plaster in other rooms in the house.

Called on the morning of October 10th. Received a quick call back and was requested to send a picture of the hole. After sending the picture, I was quoted a price and they were able to come by that afternoon. Arrived on time and quickly and perfectly repaired the damaged ceiling. I was totally amazed at how well the repair blended in. The repair is imperceptible! The price was very reasonable considering the time it took to fix. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend Preferred Skimcoat.

I contacted Matt before Christmas saying I needed the work done before January 13th. We agreed that he would contact me early January. I took a risk saying he did not have to come to give me a quote as I had read the reviews which portrayed him as a man of integrity and reasonably priced. At his request I took photos of the peeling paint and told him the approximate size of the rooms. Over email after New Year Matt got in touch and he said he would be here on January 6th at 7:30. He and his crew arrived on time, introduced themselves and got to work. They took great lengths to cover the stairs/floors from the front door to the bedroom and covered the furniture and entrance way to the bedroom. At 3:00pm they were done. The ceilings look fantastic, the clean up was meticulous and the price very fair. I am thrilled and would recommend Matt to anyone.

They did an excellent job, it was done quickly, and the clean up was excellent. We definitely plan to hire Matt to do additional ceilings in the future. The cost was very reasonable for the size of the project.
Description of Work: Matt and his crew did an excellent job blue boarding and skim coating 2 ceilings for us. He promptly came and gave us a quote and completed the work that was started by another contractor before an unfortunate health incident prevented the other contractor from finishing the job. The job involved finishing the skim coating of a large foyer ceiling and also putting up blue board and skim coating the large master bedroom. The blue board was put up on top of 100 year old plaster ceilings.

I had Matt in to plaster a family room I had built in my basement. Specifically to skim coat the walls and apply a semi smooth finish to the ceiling. I called for an estimate and he met me the same day. He was on time and we discussed the job (finishes, schedule, etc). That night he sent me a price for what we discussed. I agreed to have the work done and we settled on a date. The day of the job, Matt and crew showed up exactly at the time he said they would and they immediately started working. They were very neat. They covered the concrete floor as well as the stairs. They wrapped up later that day. I'm a fairly particular person and always want things done right. I can honestly say I was extremely happy with the outcome of the finish. It has far exceeded my expectations. It always makes me nervous to hire people I don't know to work on my home but I'm glad I chose to go with Matt and wouldn't hesitate to use him again for any upcoming projects or to recommend him to my family and friends.

My renovation project was a living nightmare until I met Matt. I wasted precious hours on interviewing bunch of contractors before I found Matt. It is simple: he is out of the league. Very professional, polite & extremely responsive. My questions were answered within minutes, not days. I was told by other "professionals" that my project would take about two weeks to be finished, Matt was done in 4 days. He deserves to be on the very top of Angies list. If you don't want to loose your mind remodeling your house, hire Matt, he will save your time, money and most important: your sanity.

I contacted Matt for an estimate and I heard back from him within the hour. He worked to give me an estimate and I was delighted with the price. As well as the great reviews Matt came with his price was very fair, I understand it was a small job but Matt didn't care. I was refused multiple times because my job was too small. We scheduled a time to for Matt to come and do the work and he was so patient with me and my crazy schedule. Matt did the work while I was at work. My partner informed me that Matt was on time and very nice. When I went to look at his work, I could not believe my eyes! Once I paint the areas nobody will ever know the damage that had been done. I honestly felt like I would never find someone to do this repair especially since there were 2 different textures that needed to be matched. Matt did an absolutely amazing job, I would recommend him and his work to anyone. I would not hesitate to call on him in the future.
Description of Work: I purchased a foreclosed home that had extensive damage all over. One of the last major cosmetic issues to be repaired was the drywall in the stairwell of the basement and the garage. The garage had 3 good sized holes and the stairwell had holes all over as well as 2 large cuts outs where the drywall had to be patched.

Matt was quick to respond to my request for quote, provided pricing right away, and was quick to start the job since I liked what I saw from him during the quoting process. In less than 1 day they skimmed flat multiple ceilings in my house. The ceilings started as lightly textured drywall ceilings and ended as smooth plaster ceilings. I was impressed with the quality of their work, their professionalism, and their attention to detail. I would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: Matt and team transformed textured ceilings into flat, smooth plaster ceilings.
