I had a terrible experience with Jesse James Roofing. They installed a roof on my house that ended up leaking, and I had to spend months arguing with them to get a repair. Unfortunately, the repairs didn’t work, and the leaks persist. A teenager—presumably Jesse's son—was overseeing the job, and after asking a few basic questions he couldn't answer, and I asked for someone more qualified to manage the work, I was told I was being arrogant. They refused. We’ve been dealing with this issue for over a year, facing ongoing water damage and stress every time it rains, having to place towels to catch the leaks. We’ve requested a refund, but they refuse. I highly recommend avoiding Jesse James Roofing.

Response from Jesse James Roofing & General Contracting
Jesse James Roofing (JJR) would first of all like to thank [Member Name Removed] & Lito for their business. [Member Name Removed] & Lito originally contacted JJR because they had a leak on the north side of their custom-built chimney chase. After an inspection, it was determined that the roof surface on the north side of the roof sheathing around the custom-built chimney chase was rotted and needed to be replaced. During the inspection, it was noticed that [Member Name Removed] & Litos' roof system wasn't insulated at all. JJR presented one proposal to repair the roof and a second proposal to increase the R-value, install a vent system, and replace the roofing material. [Member Name Removed] & Lito decide to increase the R-value, replace the roofing system, and install a vent system. Yes, Jesse James Roofing did install a new roof for [Member Name Removed] & Lito. The process of the roof replacement was a bit more complex than just changing the shingles. The roof replacement also involved installing multiple layers of 2" ridged foam insulation with all seams staggered to help prevent any thermal break, we then installed a continuous vapor barrier over the entire roof system. We then also installed vertical 3/4" furring strips with plywood fastened to the furring strips to create a vent system that [Member Information Removed] allow maximum lifespan of the asphalt shingles. With all that work being done it raised the thickness of the roof therefore we had to install new trim around the perimeter of the roof. At that point, we installed all the proper underlayments, starters, shingles and vents in line with the Owens Corning Duration roof system. New flashing was installed around the base of the chimney chase. All of this was clearly noted in the roof replacement agreement that both parties agreed upon and signed. While we were in the process of replacing [Member Name Removed] & Lito's roof, [Member Name Removed] mentioned that while he was painting the trim he had noticed some soft spots in some of the trim over the driveway and asked if we could address it when we reinstall the gutter after the roof replacement is completed. After a quick inspection, we told him we could address it as a Time and Material project and that we might have to wait untl after the electrical line is relocated to run through an electrical mast. [Member Name Removed] agreed and said that they would buy the material and paint it to speed up the process and to save a bit of money. As we were setting up to reinstall the gutter, we noticed that due to the thickness of the new roof system (multiple layers of 2" foam insulation, the vent system and the shingles) the new location of the gutter would now be touching the electrical line leading from the utility pole. [Member Name Removed] & Lito were responsible for contacting the electrician to move the electrical line but did not have them scheduled at that time. After some conversation, we all agreed that once the electrician was completed JJR would return and finish up. After a few weeks JJR was informed by Lito that the electrical was moved and ready for us to come back. Unfortunately a few more weeks then we would have liked had passed due to being short handed that inturn placed JJR a bit behind schedule. Through some back and forth texting between Lito and JJR, Lito informed JJR that she expected JJR to finish the contracted agreed work (reinstall the gutter & final inspection) and the extra trim work at no cost to [Member Name Removed] & Lito. JJR disagreed stating that for the extra work there [Member Information Removed] be an additional cost. Lito immediately jumped to we were not allowed on their property and that they were going to keep the ladders, staging and planks that were on the property and that they were not going to pay the final balance of the agreement. At this point Lito was not open to any sort of civil communication so JJR ended communication. In the spring of 2024 [Member Name Removed] reached out to JJR, he was quite snippy stating that the roof was leaking around the chimney and they wanted JJR to fix their roof. Being that Lito kicked JJR off the property not allowing us to finalizing our work, not allowing us to make a final inspection, threatened to keep JJR's tools & staging and never paid the full bill, JJR didn't respond to the first message thinking [Member Name Removed] was just poking just to be a headache. After [Member Name Removed] reached out again JJR felt we needed to respond so we could stand behind our work even though the customer didn't stand behind their end of the agreement. JJR spoke with [Member Name Removed] and agreed to stop over to inspect the issue. While on-site JJR noticed all the leaking seemed to be in the same locations around their new chimney chase as they were prior to the roof replacement. After looking inside we moved to the roof and and immediately noticed something wasn't right about a hand full of shingles on the southern side of the chimney, we then noticed an excessive amount of silicone around the base of the chimney chase. Not only was there an excessive amount of silicone but it wasn't continuous, there were holes to allow water and possibly trap the water. We take lots of pictures throughout the process of everyones roof replacement and without having to look at any pictures we knew this is not how we had left our work. We asked [Member Name Removed] if someone else had been working on his roof, at first [Member Name Removed] denied that anyone but JJR was on his roof but after JJR pointed out the hack job that someone else did to their roof, [Member Name Removed] admitted that he had someone else up there to "repair it". We proceeded to inspect the rest of the roof, shingles, flashing and ridge cap. There wasn't anything that we could visibly see that could be causing a leak. After informing [Member Name Removed] of this he was understandably not satisfied with that, so we suggested that we make it rain with a garden hose starting at the lowest point and slowly working our way up the roof to pin point the leak point. After nearly an hour we were unable to make the roof leak. After allowing the roof to dry out for a bit we sealed the silicone around the chimney base. We talked with [Member Name Removed] about the results of the water test and agreed that [Member Name Removed] would monitor the situation and let us know if the roof leaks again. A few weeks passed and [Member Name Removed] text JJR, stating that the roof had leaked again. The only thing that we thought might be the issue was possibly the ridge cap. Even though there is a continuous vapor barrier (being a layer of plastic sheathing continuous over the entire roof) we thought that was our problem spot. During our water test we did hose the cap down pretty well, although we were thinking that possibly we were unable to supply enough water with the garden hose to overwhelm the rigid vent system. We discussed changing out the shingle ridge vent system that has the vents horizontal on the vent material to a metal vented system that has the vents vertical under where the cap attaches, a pretty bullet proof system, well waterproof really. [Member Name Removed] agreed and we ordered material & scheduled the ridge cap replacement for about a week later. Our team showed up and [Member Name Removed] was nothing short of being completely inconsiderate and arrogant, bashing all the workers & being completely rude a disrespectful. Our team was very nervous as [Member Name Removed] continued to go up on the roof harassing our workers. We asked [Member Name Removed] to stop harassing our workers and to stop climbing our ladders as our insurance would not find that acceptable. [Member Name Removed] decided to put his ladder up and continued to harass and talked down to all the workers. Not surprisingly most likely due the nervous scared workers, 2 of the ridge cap panels were damaged while being installed. We informed [Member Name Removed] and told him we would be back asap. We had the new caps within just a couple days and replaced the 2 damaged cap panels. JJR stood behind our work even though [Member Name Removed] & lito did not stand behind their word and they never finished paying for the roof replacement. We also continued to properly replace the ridge cap even though [Member Name Removed] felt it was a perfect opportunity to sharpen his insulting skills. We would like to thank you again for your business and we would also like to thank you for your composure and ability to talk to workers without degrading them, but unfortunately, that's not going to be the case.

We received everything we wanted and more. Customer service was excellent - Jesse kept in touch with us throughout the job from start to finish. Brochures were left explaining the different materials, warranty period, colors, and we were given expert advice on some extras we needed. I would not hesitate to use Jesse James Roofing again.

Excellent! Jesse designed the project and built it. The work was excellent, high quality with attention to detail. Him and his son worked in extremely cold temps and left the yard immaculate! I can’t say enough about their great workmanship!

Do not hire Within 1 hour of starting this project.Jesse’s company damaged my hot tub cover. No care or concern was showed. When I inquired about the damage.”I was told s*** happens” Roof was done by a group of unskilled workers. I was Concerned about the quality of the job.Jesse came out twice and told me the roof was perfect. I had a roof inspection done and it failed for numerous issues.I now have to have the entire roof redone. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else. You have been warned.I wish I was.

Jesse came to the house a little earlier than planned (definitely a good thing!), assessed the issue on the roof within minutes, came prepared with some materials typically needed to repair the roof and was able to fix the issue within 10 minutes. He stuck around to test the roof for any issues, as well.

They came right out to give us an estimate, said they could do it within 2 weeks and they did. It's not always easy getting someone to come out for a small job but they didn't seem to mind at all. We would definitely hire them again.

Jesse is the consummate professional. He was completely up front about the scope of work, the timeline, and the details that were important to us. No surprises or hidden costs. He does excellent work, and my wife and I were thrilled with how the framing he did for us turned out. You will find him to be very fair in his pricing, but that doesn't mean you get "fair" work and effort - it's top notch! Jesse also has excellent recommendations and contacts in other fields - our particular experience was with a superb electrician - which speaks volumes to me about his impeccable character. He communicates well and stays in touch throughout the project. I wholeheartedly recommend Jesse James Carpentry!!
Description of Work: Framed our loft area above our garage, removed a bay window, and put in three new windows. He also buttressed our ceiling joints after a structural engineer determined the roof wasn't able to handle snow load. Removal of bay window required rearrangement of siding.

This was a big, complicated project to rework an existing ranch house into a new two-story cape design, following plans that we'd had an architect prepare. Jesse James Carpentry did work of very high quality on this project. ?Jesse is responsive and professional and reliable and knowledgeable. ? He is "one of the good guys."
