Quite certainly, Earl Horn/Threshold Home Inspections is the best, most knowledgeable and professional, and most informative and helpful home inspector; while there might be some his equal, for the following reasons, it is hard to believe there could be better. New to southern New Hampshire, we knew that securing the services of a very qualified home inspector was critically important to making the most informed decision in our purchase of an existing home. We discovered Earl Horn/Threshold Home Inspections, as well as other home inspection businesses on Angie’s List. After reviewing Earl’s recommendations and his credentials, and comparing them to other listed home inspection services, and going outside of Angie’s List for similar information, we decided (after a phone conversation or two, as well as some emails) that Earl seemed our best choice. From the start, it was clear, and proved itself true throughout, that we could not have made a better choice than Earl Horn for our home inspection. I shadowed Earl during the inspection. He was very exacting in his examination of the entire property, informative about all aspects of his discoveries (both positives and negatives), patient with my questions, and glad to educate me about the home, the operations of its systems, and so forth. Earl is one of those rare persons one is very lucky to come across in their personal or business dealings—extremely knowledgeable and professional, very exacting of his own execution, very caring about the importance of the work he does and the information he provides, and very gracious and personable, both with his clients and the owners of the homes he inspects.

Earl is awesome! In-depth, informative, educational, personable, thorough, deliberate and punctual... and many other superlative words that can't come to mind right now! I explained my needs during the initial call and after agreeing to proceed with his service we selected a few services from his "menu." We chose a few water and air sampling tests in addition to the typical structural inspections. Armed with a camera, a probe, a flashlight and testing meters we began to methodically dissect the entire house. I paid not only for his report, but also his advice and commentary as I accompanied him for the 4+ hour inspection. We went room by room, section by section. Every time he took a photo there were a few minutes of explanation that helped me understand what he was seeing. Since the inspection was so long ago, we've had zero unexpected issues and I've used his report as a punch-list to focus my work around the house. Earl's inspection was right on the money! Due to the height involved and my specific requests, I had contracted for an external masonry chimney inspection. When that inspector arrived, it turned out that Earl was one of his HS science teachers. Out of earshot from Earl, I got a glowing review of his character from a former student of 15 odd years ago. That told me more than I could have gained by reading a review!

Earl was professional and thorough. He set up the radon test and collected the water for testing before the inspection itself, so we had all the results in hand on the day of the inspection. He went over the water testing report and explained how to interpret it. The house inspection itself took a long time--over four hours--and covered every aspect of the interior and exterior of the house. The report came promptly by email, and it was informative and thorough. The best part was that it included pictures, so if you do not know all the vocabulary for different house parts, you can still read it ant not feel like a dummy. We learned a lot from Earl about how to maintain the house, and we have a nice prioritized list of maintenance and repair tasks to start working on. The report is the basis for our to-do list. I would absolutely recommend Earl to anyone buying a house in the region.
Description of Work: Earl inspected the house we bought, and he ordered the water quality test for the well and explained the results of the test to us.

Great working with Earl. We spent 4.5 hours performing the inspection and he found a number of issues I would never have noticed. Seller was unwilling to fix them, but at least now I know what needs fixing! He was prompt, efficient, and thorough, and the price was very reasonable compared to competitors in the area. His report was one of the best I have seen, with clear breakdowns of each area, explanations for any issues, and notes on how critical the issues are. He explained everything he was doing as he went through it and answered all of my questions.

Description of Work: Earl Horn performed a house inspection for me (now has done 2 for me) He does an excellant job taking each area separatly - outside, garage, inside, plumbing, electrical, heating. Do the windows open, screens OK, doors open without binding, Checks each electrial outlet - is there ground fault where required. This house had light in closet that no longer meets code, he told me about this. I was able to follow him around and ask questions as he explained what he was doing. Very easy to work with. He provided a complete written report the following day - what had to be done, what should be done and what to watch. Earl was in no hurry to get the inspection done -" I am here as long as it takes." Was there inspecting for 5 hoursHe found a toilet tank that was subject to leaking and left a note for the home owner to be sure to have it fixed before there was a problem. In the first house he inspected ( asking price $483,000.00) he found about $100.000 of needed repairs, from wiring not to code, to furnace that was on its last year, rot behind clapboards, radon.I would highly reccommend him.
