Description of Work: Pros: Good price, nice metal roofing material, 40 year durability, color shouldn't fade, good crew who installed the roof, installation went smoothly overall. | |Not sure how true that is as we will have to see how rugged and durable the material is over time. This metal roof material is suppose to last for up to 40 years, and the color not fade. By looks, it seems durable, sturdy and strong. Not flimsy. Crew was great and did very nice work although another person i know who used them said the crew wasn't very good, broke her outside light and they had a leak after it was installed that they came and fixed. Apparently not very well cosmetically speaking but the leak stopped. | |Cons: Their word is not very trustworthy, they are little cagey, they are not completely forthright with their business practices, install dates are months in advance than what they tell you. They tell you what you want to hear to get you to sign and agree, but has cagey tactics to stretch the truth and their agreement with regard to time frames and install practices. | |Their salesman Tori is the typical salesman. He can't agree to any negotiating until he clears it with his boss "Wayne". Tori came in May of 2014. Showed samples, gave us a price. We had a budget to stick to, he said his boss agreed to our price. He explained and showed me the roof from the ground and looking up we could see it had 3 layers on it (original shakes, and 2 layers of asphalt) and discussed how they install etc. | |We asked how long until they can come - he said mid August. Eek, didn;t want to wait that long (we have major leaks). When he noticed our hesitation, he said after a 1/3 deposit, we could get scheduled in roughly 10 weeks, so with a deposit in a week or so, we could get in around mid-July. We were not too happy with that but thought we could manage until then. 2 weeks later we gave them our 1/3 deposit. We agreed on the color that day when he picked up the check. That night, we called him and emailed him with a change in color. | |Every time we called the office later, to get our install date, we never got an answer, the guy in the office never seemed to know, they always said someone will call us that night or the next day with an answer and we never heard from them. This happened on 4 occasions. We had other contractors to schedule this job around so our date was important to them. | |Finally, after my husband spoke with the owner Wayne, he got the run around a bit, and we were told the install date is late August. My husband was upset and Wayne said, this happened because of our color change (even though the color change was virtually within 4 hours of one another) My husband pressed him and that was it, nothing more we could do. | |Last week of August we called again, and they said it was going to be mid- September. We argued a bit more, and he said they waiting on our materials to come in. Ridiculous, whatever the reason, they were behind and would never be completely straight about this with us. Finally they came late in the first week of September. They puttered around for the first week, it was evident they were pressured to get going although the installers said they were still waiting for our roofing to come in. | |The end of the week, Dave, the project manager, (a used car salesman type, a smooth talking BS'er type)informed me they "have a problem". They just realized that the roof has too many layers on it, and their screws do not reach our rafters so they will have to install strapping on the roof first to attach the panels to. This way, the install will done properly and we won't have to experience a possible incident of wind pulling off a panel and flying away. "so, how is this my problem"? He said Wayne will be calling us. I knew what he was getting at (more $$$$) | |Strapping is used on about 90% of their install jobs as was told to us by the installer, and the 2 people we knew who hired these guys previously, had strapping put on first so the metal panels can be attached to them. This goes without saying. They obviously knew this when the salesman came, he pointed this out to us that we had a lot of layers on our roof. Anyone who is competent would know strapping would definitely have to be used on our roof. | |They tried to pull a fast one on us and extort more money for the job. When we argued that should be part of the install price and Tori surely knew how many layers of roofing we had ahead of time. We should expect the job to be done right and correctly from the onset. That is part of the install - therefore our estimate - period. | |Wayne said that strapping is only used "every once in awhile" and when we disagreed with this cagey tactic, he said he could pull his guys off the job and move on - while our roof is now half prepped and nailed every where with roofing sheeting. Nice.. What dirtbag business practices. we were so upset they took forever to get to our house, we felt we should be offered some sort of a small good faith discount - even if it was just a few hundred dollars. He was shocked when I suggested it. | |We wanted to just get the thing over with and because I know strapping is dirt cheap, I agreed to pay only for the strapping, which I figured it to be roughly $100-150. He said he would give us the receipt and he agreed if we paid for the material we could carry on. | |We were never given a receipt and I asked the installer to give me his copy (he didn't know why, or the ongoings of any of this, nor did he care, he was just there to work which we appreciated)I photocopied it for my records. It was about $470. The strapping was a little over $100.00 just like I thought so we were ok with it. The rest of the stuff on it were things like, saw blades, nails, screws, and $175.00 worth of wide pine boards etc. We were not going to pay for that...we agreed to pay for the strapping - that was it. It was against our principle but we just wanted it over with. | |When it came time to pay our last payment, the installer brought us the paperwork AND the amended piece of paper for the full amount of the receipt of $470.00. We told him we didn't agree to all of those materials, only the strapping. he said he will have Wayne call us and discuss it, and we can send him a check for it after. We paid our balance in full and waited to hear from Wayne. He never called us back. | |Bottom Line: We would have been better to handle the delays if they were just honest with us throughout. We were annoyed with the intentional mix messages. If you want to hire them, you will get a decent price, good material, hopefully a good crew, but keep in mind, the way they do business, your install date could be as long as 3 months ahead of when you give your deposit and know they are not straight forward with their word. If you can handle all of that for a great price, then hire them. Just know what to expect. Just sayin' |
