+ -1 moreEverything is up an running beautifully. I have depended on Jeff for years to keep my old unit running, so naturally I turned to him when it came time to replace it. I depend on his honesty and reliability and he never disappoints me.
Description of Work: I have used Jeff's K1 service for years for periodic servicing. When I needed a new unit, he came and installed it. When I needed a small adjustment (which had nothing to do with the installation, but with user error), he came out and took care of it promptly.

+ -1 moreThis experience resulted in stress and confusion trying to make sense with someone who answered a simple question I had asked with "yes" regarding "does $127 include travel, and his reply of "yes" should mean it does. Crazy. Since the first bill I have received another with "emergency" checked off. Another lie Now he also put 2 hours on the next bill a threatening note. I don't understand this person. . Also it turns out the electricity had gone out for a moment the nite my heater was off in the morning. I would not recommend him. He merely drove to my home, looked at my heater that was running, said it should be reconditioned or replaced, put the cover on and done at 5:15. Arrived at 4:40. Had said $127 for service call then gave me a bill for $255 (double) after refusing the check I handed him.
Description of Work: Jeff came out arriving at 4:30 tho I had said several times in the afternoon that I had to leave by 5 p.m. Was leaving for 2 days and my heater had been off when I got up day before. Made it clear that it started rite up when I pushed button. I also made it clear that I wasn't concerned because my neighbor could check on it. We had been having high winds for a couple of days. He said he was at a call but could come when done. I asked how much it would be to check it. He said "$127". I said "does that include travel" and he said "YES". I then said "ok if you can get here before I have to leave. The heater is working fine it could have been the wind" When he finally arrived I told him again I would have to leave no later than 5:15. He took off cover and said my heater needed to be reconditioned for approximately $400plus then put cover back on. He also suggested a new heater that he sells. I told him I had a Rinnai and said I might put that in. Got his things together. I made out a check for $127 and said "thankyou" as I went to hand it to him. He said "um, uh" as he went past me out door with his bag. Came back with a slip made out for $255. I was shocked and said "you gave me a price of $127 and not here even an hour. Time was 5:15 and I also was late in getting to Concord. I REPEATED several times our phone conversation. "How much will it be" and his reply "$127". "Does it include travel?" And his one word answer..."YES". But now he said "I meant, yes travel costs the same...another $127." I tried several times repeating the very obvious but then offered him the check again for the amount we ageed to. He said "I don't want it. Never mind. It was my mistake you don't owe me anything" I said"I want you to take this. We agreed to this amount." He just left. Then a week later there was a bill a my post office (he had the wrong box #) for $255. I have never felt so violated or manipulated in my life. I believe he came here with the intention to do this as I spoke to him early afternoon and explained my heater was working fine and that it was only two days and my neighbor could check it. My oil company also knows there was no emergency.Turns out that the electricity in the area had gone off. I had actually asked if it could have been wind or electric interruption when I talked to him in the afternoon. I have a list of plumbers I've been calling and the highest price to come here for a check includes. 1 hour here and travel. Furthest is from Manchester and total cost is $129. I feel totally violated and have contacted the Consumer Protection Division.

+ 0 moreJeff and team were professional, showing up when they said they would and working all the way through the job. They definitely underestimated how long it would take, but they kept at it and finished despite having other jobs to do. The work was done mostly as we agreed, and the system seems to be doing the job (as we are now into the heating system). I did find Jeff was sometimes overly confident that his way was the right way, and didn't want to listen to what I was asking for. While this may be the right attitude when dealing with customers who don't know anything about their heating system, it meant I had to tell him several times what I wanted. But the bottom line is I was satisfied with the work and I would hire them again.
Description of Work: Replace all baseboard convectors, relocate two old cast iron radiators, install one forced-air convector.

+ -1 moreMy boiler was not working properly and it was a pretty cold day. I called Jeff at around 3:30 pm looking for an emergency service visit to get me back up and running. He arrived within a half hour of my call and got right to work on the problem. He replaced the parts that were necessary and explained and showed me why they were needed. He also pointed out a few things that needed work. I will definitely be setting up an appointment to have Jeff back and repair what's necessary. I am extremely pleased with his service.

+ -1 moreJeff was very professional about disconnecting the 1960s-era oil furnace and prepping the oil tank for removal. My husband worked with him to be sure he took what we wanted taken and left what we wanted left. So, this part went well. On the other hand, Jeff sub-contracted the haul-away portion of the job, and the two men who moved the furnace and tank out of the basement were not so professional. Instead of using the dolly that was available, they dragged the tank across the floor, leaving a streak of black paint. They also man-handled the furnace off the concrete platform it was on, damaging it in the process. They didn't seem to really know how to move things in the most effective way. They didn't even have ramps to get things up the six stairs from the basement to the backyard. If we hadn't had ramps for them to use, we don't know how they would have gotten things out. We talked to Jeff about how we liked the work he did, but were not happy with his sub-contractors. I think we would hire Jeff again, as long as he doesn't use those sub-contractors.

Description of Work: Went very well. I heated the lower level of my house with an old Monitor heater, probably 20 years old or so. When it began making an alarming noise I called Jeff's K-1. He had serviced the unit for me previously to provide routine maintenance, and I had been very satisfied. In this case Jeff came promptly, diagnosed the problem(s), and replaced the parts needed, explaining the problems and showing me the degraded parts. When he left it seemed as good as new.

Description of Work: I had Jeff come as I thought the Gage on my oil tank was broken jell came and told me there was nothing wrong just that the positioning of the pipes leading in and out of tank make it impossible to ever read full. He resealed the gauge fitting . Jeff refused to take payment..said it was nothing and he was in the area. This amazed me. Jeff also cleaned my burner and replaced a gasket at an earlier visit. He was prompt, pleasant and priced reasonably. I feel Jeff is a person you can trust and depend on. I will certainly continue to use him and will encourage others to do the same. We need more professionals like Jeff. He makes it easy to do business with him.

+ -1 moreI called Jeff for my annual furnace cleaning, but I had also noticed that the furnace seemed to be running all the time without the house ever getting above 66 degrees, so I suspected something else was going on. Jeff was quick to return my call and scheduled me within a few days. He called shortly before he arrived to confirm my address (and I appreciated the advanced warning of his arrival). He came with one helper and they worked quickly and efficiently. In addition to the cleaning, Jeff determined that the switch on my power venter needed replacing (which is why the furnace had been running all the time). He had to run out for the part, but returned promptly and completed the repair. The furnace has run great ever since. I was very pleased with the service and would definitely use Jeff again.

+ -1 moreThe power venter on our furnace died. We got a quote from a large, local heating/plumbing company but it seemed high so we decided to look around. Found Jeff on Angies List and liked the idea of supporting a small outfit so left a message for him, asking for a quote. He returned my call promptly and we setup a date to have the work done. The morning of the date, he called to get the address and showed up within half an hour. While respecting our home, he completed the repair within a few hours, answering questions we had as he went along. When he was done, the cost was just under the estimate, saving us more than $400 over the quote from the other, larger company. We then made arrangements to have him perform our annual furnace cleaning. He is also a bee-keeper and gave us a free small bottle of honey to say "thank you". Next time we need furnace work done, we'll be calling Jeff!

+ -1 moreI've used Jeff in the past for maintaining my Toyo kerosene furnace in my greenhouse. Jeff was very quick in getting a replacement thermostat and installing it. He is very cognisant of his customers needs as we were scheduled for him to install it on a Thursday, and he called me earlier in the week to check to see if he should squeeze me in faster (that night or the next morning), as we were supposed to get a freeze and he was concerned that my plants were going to freeze. I assured him that the tropical plants would be ok, and he came as schedule on Thursday, installed it quickly and at a reasonable price. He is always courteous and professional. He's fantastic for all your kerosene heater installations and maintenance. He fixed the furnace in the past for me when it suddenly wouldn't run, and I would recommend him anytime you are thinking of putting in one of these little efficient furnaces, or already have one and need help. He's great to work with and the furnaces are quite efficient.
Description of Work: Upon attempting to start up of my Toyo kerosene furnace in my greenhouse- it would not fire off. I called Jeff and we were able to diagnose it over the phone and he ordered a replacement thermostat and installed it quickly.
