Tim Dodge, of A New Look Coating, was subcontracted by a larger company to paint our house. At first he seemed great, very responsive and customer focused. He even offered to replace and paint our back door, which was rotting at the bottom. He also offered to help with a mold problem we were having on our back stairs. He said that when the paint job was completed he would take care of it for us. Since we had no experience with mold problems we consulted our good friend and contractor, David Ryng. (David offered to do the work for us, but because he was in the middle of another job at the time, and Tim was already painting our house, we decided to have Tim do the work.) David came and checked out the issue for us anyway, and advised us exactly what needed to be done to be sure we knew where the water was coming from and that we didn’t just start demolishing the side of our house. We explained to Tim what David told us and he agreed on the plan. We gave him a $3000 down payment. Then about 3Ž4 of the way through the paint job Tim told us he had a very big job opportunity that came through in North Carolina. He would be gone for several weeks. But, we weren’t to worry, although he would be gone, his men would finish our job within one week. Here are the highlights of what happened next: The following Thursday, there was still no sign of his men. Nobody came all week. We texted and called Tim to find out what was happening. Eventually, they came and continued to paint. The whole time, a heap of junk, tarps, wood, and old paint cans that they had accumulated sat in our back yard, even after we made several requests to Tim to remove them. The men told us they were almost done with the job, and that they would finish in a day or so. We pointed out all the things that were still unfinished, including installment of a screen door (which had been laying against our deck for weeks), and the mold job. They never finished the outstanding painting and left the screen door lying there. (The new main back door had been installed, but in the process, chunks of wood were hacked out above the door frame, in our kitchen, and never fixed. The door sticks a lot and has to be slammed in order to close it. We had told Tim about this, but he did nothing to correct it.) Days later he sent some men to take care of the mold along the back stairs. Instead of doing the work the way we agreed upon, Tim told us that they were going to just go into the wall from the outside and deal with it that way, as he was SURE he knew where the water was coming from. Then, about a week after they were done with the work, it rained and the water came through the wall. We were furious. We told Tim about this and about our extreme displeasure with how he had handled the project. He said he would return our $3000. Now, 2 months later, we have not received a dime from him and he has not return our calls or emails. Also, the main company (who hired him) had to come in to repair the sloppy paint job he did and finish the parts he left undone. Our friend David is in the processes of repairing the leak that caused the mold. He is doing it the way it was supposed to be done in the first place. I would not recommend Tim Dodge and A New Look Coating to anyone. Ever. No matter what.

This was a fantastic job. We've had this 1888 farmhouse painted a couple times since we've owned it. This was, by far, the best experience. They stripped a century's worth of cracked and pealing paint of various colors down to bare shingles, caulking and repairing along the way. Then they repaired the old window sills, primed and put two paint coats on the entire thing. They kept everything covered and cleaned on a regular basis, so there was no mess for us to deal with along the way.
Description of Work: Complete strip to bare wood, priming and painting of the exterior of our 5,000 sq. ft. house.
