I am wondering if [member name removed] may have contacted the old owner's number. We purchased the business in 2012 and the old number is still floating around out there. We make an effort to respond to all calls within 48 hours. Our new number is 402-510-6398. I would love to have an opportunity to provide an estimate if the work is still needed.

I returned home one evening to find that the air in house was thick with dust, everything in every room of the $4000 sq ft. house was covered with a thick layer of dust including the upholstered sofas, bedding and curtains. The basement floor was littered with broken concrete and dirt. Apparently they had drilled all over my tiled basement floor looking for plumbing for a new bathroom, this could have been easily accomplished by simply using a sewer camera. instead they chose to dig approximately 3-4 feet deep, 2-3 feet wide, and in several areas upto six feet long trench-like structures. Jay Porter (Basemnts R Us) admitted that his sub contractor had been drilling all over the basement concrete without covering the air ducts, doors or the work area. Although none of this was authorized by me, Jay Porter(Basements R Us) denied any responsibility claiming that it was his subcontractors's fault, but asked for additional $1000. to have his subcontractor repair the damage to the basement floor, not including the tile repair, or cleanup.
Description of Work: I paid Jay Porter (Basements R Us) $1500.00 down payment towards refinishing the basement approx. 2 months ago, the only work done is framing of one wall and framing of a small closet. However they did manage to make the house uninhabitable as explained below.

Response from Basements R Us
Thank you for contacting me about the complaint filed by the member. It is my first priority to have satisfied customers and to run my business honestly. I also do my best to hire the best subcontractors I can and always address any situations that may come up with customers with my subcontractors. I am writing in response to the complaint filed by he SO that I can explain the events that took place and the contract that was signed. I have enclosed a copy of the contract that was agreed upon by the member and myself. In the contract. you will see that the proposal does not Include any plumbing. heating. or electrical work that may be needed. A plumber that was hired to do work on her bathroom. The price for this was discussed and it was agreed upon that the plumber would have to knock out concrete in order to make another bathroom. The member said she was fine with this and she gave me authorization to use this plumber. The plumber did mention that he has never had to knock out this much concrete but assured the job could be done. Two days after she had given the ok to have the plumber do the plumbing, he called me and asked if he could get started. I said yes because I needed to have it done so f could get the bathroom framed up. - I checked in on the job about two hours later, and was shocked at what I saw. The plumber had hired a young kid to come In and knock out the concrete. To my horror, the kid was using a cutsaw with no mist or water to knock down the dust and had not made any attempt to cover any ducts at the entry to the upstairs. The dust was so thick that I could hardly see the kid cutting the concrete. I immediately put a stop to any more cutting until I covered the vents and air ducts myself. I asked the kid how he could possibly cut into concrete like this without covering anything. His response was that it was his job to cut out the concrete, not cover anything. Needless to say, this company no longer does any kind of work for Basements 'R' Us. As I mentioned earlier, I stand behind the work of those that are hired to subcontract for me, and this was completely unacceptable. That night I hired a gin to come and help me clean the upstairs. We spent three hours cleaning that very night to no avail because the dust had already settled in the ductwork and by the time the member got home that weekend, dust had settled all over the house. She called me and was very upset and hung up on me. I don't blame her for being upset. I, myself, would be upset by the situation as well. After much negotiation with her son, she allowed the girl I had hired to help me clean come over that Saturday afternoon to clean the house so she could at least live in the house for the weekend. She and the girl I hired even hit it off and exchanged phone numbers so she could come back and do more cleaning. This in no way, would completely clean the house, and I told her that there was no sense In having someone completely clean the house and ductwork Until the work was done. The project took a long time because the basement was so full of junk that we could only do work on one area at a time, which, she forgot to mention, and she also forgot to mention that the subcontractor had offered to fix the concrete, clean her house, and clean her ductwork. I thought it was fair that they had offered to do this. but she refused to allow him back into her house. I offered the same, which I thought she seemed to be good with because when the cleaning girland I left that Saturday before that we cleaned, I agreed to meet with an electrician of her choice to continue with the project. I did meet with her electrician the very next week and we ran into the same problem that required her ok but she was never there to give the go ahead. I called her son and her both every night that week and no one returned my phone calls. I finally went to her house and knocked on the door with no answer. Ten minutes after leaving her house, she called me and said never to call her again or she would call the police and charge me with harassment This was quite a change from earlier conversations in which she said. "let's get together and work this out." As far as the $1500 she paid me, I have far more that that in the project with time spent and materials and paying for a dumpster which I thought she would use to get rid of her junk, and she didn't The member wants me to take responsibility for cleaning her house and ducts. This was offered to her twice by the subcontractor and myself. Her fight is with them, not Basements R Us. She gave me the ok for the subcontractor to do the work and I am very sorry about what happened. I did try to fix it, but she refused. I would even be willing to testify about what the subs did. The member has called me all kinds of names and has changed her mind many times and is being completely unreasonable. Once again, her fight is the sub, not Basements 'R' US. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

It is not 100% complete yet. They just finished dry walling. So far the contractors/workers that have come in to do the work have been very friendly and professional. They have done a good job cleaning up after themselves as well. This company has many contacts to get the work and details you want in your basement. They only drawback is you often have to keep up with the details between Basements 'R' Us and the contractors coming in to do the various functions such as electrical, plumbing, custom cabinets, etc. Overall though I have been satisfied with the work up to this point. I would hire them again.
Description of Work: We had this company finish our basement. We had the space divided up into a bedroom and media area along with a bar.
