SOS Heating and Cooling

The service went okay. It was our first time using the company. They were recommended by my mother. We are still waiting to see how the furnace will do. My son has tried it and he says it is quiet. The staff was nice to deal with. I had no problem contacting the company or scheduling the service. I usually spoke to the owner John. He was good about returning calls and being there when I needed. I plan on using them for the AC as well.

Repair person arrived promptly and completed the job with no issues. I have used their services before and will continue to do so.

Tom arrived promptly and was very professional. He went right to work and got everything done in a very timly manner. I had a coupon that I had forgot to mention when I called. I said I would totally understand if he could not honor it. He did and with a friendly goodbye and a stay cool :) he was out the door. I would definitely recommend!!!

When I called in the evening to get after hour service on our AC unit the individual who answered the call was extremely rude. She initially told me they couldn't get me in until Thursday or Friday, 3 to 4 days later. When I asked if they had after hour service (knowing they did based on what was posted for them on Angie's List) she said they did. When I asked what their rates were she quoted me the day rate of $85. I had to ask her if that was the after hour rate, which is $127.50 per hour. Then when trying to get her to set us up to have someone come out that same night to fix our AC she kept saying "there are 3 to 4 ahead of you" over and over. I finally had to tell her I felt she was trying to discourage me from setting up service with them to which she replied "we will see what we can do". I asked how many techs they have and she said 3 but all of them have 3 to 4 ahead of us. I told her we would wait and wanted the service done tonight. She took my information and hung up. If you do 24 hour service I would strongly suggest have someone answering the phones who is willing to help your company get the customers what they want. She is the sole reason for the C and F rating. On the plus side the technician (Bobbie) called me in less than an hour (even though there were 3 to 4 ahead of us on all their techs supposedly). He came promptly and did the work within an hour. He had the parts we needed, we extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He answered all of my questions very patiently. My wife and I were totally impressed with him. Would I call them back again? Not sure just because we might have to deal with the initial lady answering their phones and assigning the work to the techs. Even if we were just trying to schedule normal work she seemed like I was annoying her by even calling.

It went very well. There was one part missing for the install but they got the part and came the next day and finished up.

For a Sunday service call, we were extremely pleased with the quick response and completion of service. Alex, service repairman called back within 20 minutes of our requested callback from SOS. He stated it would be approx 30 to 45 minutes before he would be able to arrive. He was at our house in 25 minutes. Very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable with the OLDER furnace ( in which he stated upon arrival....oh this furnace is older than I expected). Within 10 minutes he had the cover off and stated that there was a surge or short in the ignition of the furnace and took looked at the ignitor and stated a new one was needed. Returned from the service truck with the piece in hand and had it replaced and the furnace up and running with full heat in less than 45 minutes. He also highly suggested a new furance due to the old one having about 3 years max left in it. Stated to start putting money away in anticipation of it going out. He was not pushing, nor demanding to purchase new one. We were dreading the cost, due to being a weekend/emergency call. We called 3 other companies previously, all in which were booked with 2-3 customers in front of us. Their cost ranged from 150 to 175 to come out on the service call plus an hourly rate ranging from 75.00 to 100.00 on top of the emergency call fee. SOS was 170.00 an hour to come out with no emergency service fee. If SOS would have been here longer than 3 hours this would have made them more expensive than the others. We started to ask questions regarding their rates Weekends verses weekday, night rates verses normal business hours and to our surprise it was considerably reasonable and shocking to what our original beliefs were. We called Sunday morning thinking it would have been cheaper than calling at midnight on Saturday. We were in correct. If we would of called BEFORE midnight of Saturday night/Sunday morning it would have been 50.00 cheaper. The have standard normal business hour rate (85.00) and anytime after business hours the rate per hour (127.50). Anytime after midnight of Saturday considered Sunday is 170.00 per hour. So Monday through Saturday is the same rate, with difference of normal business hours and after hours. Best advise....Avoid Sunday if you can and DO NOT hesitate to call at midnight, 2am, 3 am. Monday through Saturday... It will save you headache and worry for a slight up charge (45.00ish) in cost per hour unless that is it is Sunday.

The person who answered the phone was very nice and sympathetic to the problem we were having. Had a repairman available the same afternoon. The repairman called when he was on the way. Explained the problem we were having and he figured out right away why it was happening and explained it well. Completed the repair quickly and for a very reasonable cost, and even talked with me about zoning for the house that we had been thinking about for a while. He said he would send a quote in the mail once he got back to the office and we could talk again if we were interested. Very nice, helpful, and knowledgable. Will continue to use SOS from now on.

Estimate process smooth and quick. Competitive pricing. Torrey was helpful in our selections. Installation process went well. Steve was great and very helpful. Final hook up and turning on furnace took a little bit of time but they got to us before it was too cold outside. Only issues that prevented me from giving them an A+ : Our humidifier couldn't be hooked up by them because we used Pex tubing for our water lines down by the furnace and they said they can only connect to copper pipe. Unfortunately it is still not hooked up since it is something we have to do ourselves or hire a plumber for. It took a bit of time to file paperwork with OPPD so we could begin receiving discounts on our rate due to the heat pump installation. Overall experience was very good - very nice people.

Several trips were made by another repairman, who could not find the problem. The SOS repairman knew immediately what the problem was, replaced a defective part, and problem solved. He also did some additional needed work at no extra charge.

Met with Jon to get a quote and less then 2 weeks later we were having the units installed. Jon expalined all the differnt features available and gave us 3 quotes (good, better, best) for installs. Jon also helped us get financing set up a date to install that would not be during "peak" season so we could get a discount. We chose the middle of the road.. the "Better" system. We also chose to have the media/electonic hybrid filter installed ($850) because it will kill over 99% of mold, viruses, etc.. My wife has had cancer twice and her immune system is weak. So we saw this as an opportunity to help her to live healthier. On the day of the install we unded up having record heat.. I think it hit 98 or 99.. Work was completed in one day! We had planned on a two day install, but thankfully Chris and Brett stayed until the job was finished. They knew how important it was to have the A/C up and running on such a hot day. Chris and Bret also showed me hwo to operate and program the thermostat, then showed me how to check the filter and humidifier. I plan on having SOS come out for the annual check ups on the system. Thanks to Jon, Chris, and Brett for getting our new system in and running!

It took two calls to get them to call us back over a weeks time. They scheduled a time to meet with us for the maintenance program and said they would look at the AC problem then. They missed this appointment. We called back to reschedule and they said they would have to call us back with a time, they never did. We called back again because it was now 3 weeks without AC to the building we were having a problem with. And said that we needed to have the ac addressed now. We could deal with the maintenance program after their immediate summer rush. They did come out and fix the problem with the AC unit, and it appears they did a great job. Still havent heard back from them regarding the regular maintenance program for the Heating and AC on the other 3 buildings. The only reason we kept calling them back was because the system was a special whole building filtration system and they were the original installers and listed by the prior owner of the building as the contact. We have now found a much more responsive contractor who actually wants out business.

We just moved into a new house and as luck would have it on one of the hottest days of the year the AC just stops. It won't kick on at all. I shut it down and contemplated what to do. The family and I tried to get by with no AC for a little while as money is pretty tight at the moment. That lasted all of one night. I called them around 9 AM and explained the situation. They had someone to the house by noon, who went over the system with me, showed me the broken part, replaced it, fired the AC back up and helped me program the thermostat. 100% completely satisfied with the price, punctuality, professionalism and attention to detail this company has. I wish there were more companies around that are as responsive to their customers as SOS clearly is. Top notch company.

I thought they were going to come out and start working and then they didn't show. Apparently they had some emergency calls because it got really hot here.

SOS office promised to call at least a half hour ahead of time, and did so, as promised. Tech was at the house when I arrived. Tech located the problem with the AC and repaired unit in less than an hour. Performed inspection on the unit inside the house. Tech was tidy, professional, did not "oversell" the solution. In short, SOS arrived promptly, performed the work professionally and solved the problem. On time, as promised, reasonable rates - grade A all around.

Hail storm ruined our condenser (the unit that sits outside). Called SOS because the first company I talked to said they couldn't replace just our condenser (it's a R22, now everything's R410), they'd have to replace the entire system. They also said nobody'd replace an R22 condenser. SOS said they could. The system was 20 years old, so we had them replace the whole thing anyway. Their price was 40% less than the first company's. The installer was wonderful. Took his shoes off and when he was finished, the area, inside and out, was spotless. And talk about skill; everything he did was perfect. Company's honest and straightforward, no tricks or gimmicks. Completely satisfied.

I needed an air conditioning unit replace in a rental property. SOS, from the beginning was very responsive and handled the job professionally and quickly. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and will use them again.

On time, friendly and reasonable cost. On the follow up, the unit failed because of a silly homeowner error. They corrected the minor issue and educated us about it at no cost. We wild definitely call SOS the next time we need service. Great Experience.

Called because my A/C breaker was tripping. My A/C was 23 years old but I was not aware of the live span of an A/C nor did he tell me the A/C was at end of life. I was told one part was burned out and that was my problem which cost $75. Then the service man showed me another part that he felt was going to burn out which cost $125. I approved the replacement to save on a second service call. About 2-3 weeks later, the breaker began tripping again. A different repair man came out and told me compressor was bad and I needed a new one. I was told if I bought an A/C from them they would put the cost of the previously replaced parts toward a new one but would never return my money. I bought a new A/C from a different provider and saved about $1200. I also told the sales man I intended to put this report on Angie's list because their information was inconsistent and they were not customer focused. He still would not refund any money for parts that were not necessary.

I called the office and left a message because it was after hours (2pm) on a Saturday and Alex returned my call in less then an hour. He was polite and honest with me that he had 3 other customers before me but he would try to get here before dark and if he couldn't he would call. At 4:30pm he called to say he was on his way. He arrived and went straight to work and replaced my capacitor and offered me their service plan to look at while he worked. I signed up for it $190 for one Heating check-up and one cooling check-up along with paying for his after hours call ($128) and the part ($125) my total was under $500. I was very pleased with him and SOS. I would definitely recommend this company to friends and family.

Arrived on time and did the work in a timely manner. Found that the inside unit needed to be sealed better, which they did and needed a small amount of refrigerant. Also cleaned the outside unit thoroughly. The coupon we had indicated $79 for a routine maintenance, yet the cost was only $65 because it was not as extensive as it could have been. Was very impressed because the technician returned later in the evening to make sure that he had closed the outside air conditioning unit.

They were always prompt about keeping appointment times. There was a little trouble with the first tech. who apparently got sick after coming to our house and did not return the paperwork promptly which resulted in parts not being ordered in a timely fashion. This in turn delayed the complete diagnosis of the problems with the furnace and ended up taking too long for the issue to be resolved. In the end, management took responsibility and made us satisfied with the service. Everyone that we dealt with was very professional and knew their business. They were always on time for appointments or called if they could come earlier.

Around 9am Saturday, we realized a/c was not working- unit hummed but no fan/compressor going. It was 10 before I could call to get someone out. Most places close noon on Sat. SOS was able to send someone out. He looked and acted very professionally. He determined it was the capacitor and replaced it. He also suggested, then helped to remove lattice around the unit as it was restricting airflow. Completely satisfied with service. Will use them again.

I called the end of last summer because my air conditioner was old and needed replaced and I thought I might get an off season discount. I didn't get one. The actual owner came out and gave me the estimate and several options with the furnace and air conditioner. He said that my furnace was pretty good. He gave me a price for just the air conditioner, the air conditioner with wiring and stuff which is what I went with. It came in and he installed it very good. I wasn't in any rush because it was the end of the air condition season so I said just whenever you are free. He gave me a pretty good price a better price than the other quotes that I got. I've only run the air conditioner once this year so far. I asked quite a few questions because I had never bought an air conditioner before and he took the time and did well. I did receive an offseason discount despite what is stated earlier.

I called around 12:30pm on a really snowy day. Someone was at my house within an hour, with a phone call before they arrived. They were here 10 minutes and fixed the furnace issue. Inexpensive and fast. Will use again.

Thomas was very friendly and a nice guy. He did show up about 20 minutes late but it ended up working out because we had nothing to do Saturday morning. He was in our house for about 20 minutes and took a look at a couple things and then cleaned out the furnace. He discovered our gas flame sensor was dirty so he cleaned it up. He said it looked like the furnace had never been cleaned since the house was built (7 years ago, we just moved in last April 2012) but that we should get a check every year or so. I am very satisfied with their service.
