See above. (Easier to do it all in one.)
Description of Work: Ryan Broadstone was referred to me. Overall, I think they did a good job. I called 3 different deck guys for estimates. He was both the best at responding in a timely manner (which is a large part of why he was hired), and the lowest bid. All the bids were (a realtor told me later) rather *high*, in her opinion, nonetheless, they were within about $60 of each other, so I'm not sure who to believe there, to be honest. The realtor may have been underestimating, dunno. Anyway, they did a good job overall. I have only three "complaints," and in the larger scheme of things, all are relatively minor. First -- and even allowing for weather/rain -- it took about a week and a half from start to finish, which seems a bit long (especially when waiting to mow my lawn, where the deck stuff was set). That's probably my biggest complaint. After the power-wash, it took 4 days to get to the staining. In fact, on the very day I was going to call to ask what was up, they arrived to apply the first part of the staining. Again, the weather has been weird out here, but not during the week between power-wash and staining, so a quick call just to say, "We'll be there probably on ..." would have been good. That said, he did call later to give an update on progress, so he gets point for that. :-) I'm willing to grant reasonable allowance as long as I'm communicated with. Second, while they did move everything OFF the deck, and I was told not to worry about it -- I was left to *return* everything. Now, I do *get* that, as the deck stain had to dry but ... I'm a single woman, and lifting a big heavy gas grill back onto my deck required me to go and beg help from my neighbors, and I wasn't told in advance that I'd need to. Also, they took a bunch of hook screw out of the deck and didn't replace them. I'll have to put them all back in. Again, I'm not sure that's an unreasonable expectation in terms of deck repair/cleaning, but I wasn't informed ahead of time. So anyone hiring them/him, be sure to have clarified what you'll be expected to put back yourself, so you can line up appropriate help. Last, and this is both minor but annoying ... the guy doing the staining on one side of the deck trampled some of my bushes. They're perennials, so I hope they'll come back, but I was quite annoyed. (I think I know who it was, and it wasn't Ryan, but his assistant.) Otherwise, however, they took pretty good care of the other plants around, so I think it was just one person being uncareful. Would I hire Mr. Nice Guy again? Quite possibly. Ryan was, overall, pretty easy to work with, and after having some really BAD experiences with deck guys, he was certainly the best of the lot! I'd give them an A-/B+, overall. The final job was pretty good, imo. The overall experience ... had some glitches, but not really bad ones. In short, I'll keep his business card, if I need deck work in the future.
