Description of Work: We were looking to have windows, doors, & siding replaced. Based upon our limited budget, we determined that we would have to do the house in stages. The rear of our house faces a lake & based upon some of those moisture conditions, along with a northern exposure, & the height of the house (3 stories high in rear), we decided that we would do the back of the house first. The back contained 2 sliding doors, 2 standard doors, & 13 windows. Of course the two sliding doors were oversized (7" over standard width) as were three of our windows. (86"W x 68"H). In an effort to save costs of windows/doors, we decided to go with standard size doors/windows so this meant Mike had to build in those doors & windows. Mike provided an estimate of everything ahead of time and was willing to do whatever portion we wanted to do. Mike was also willing to allow us to purchase items on our own, which is what we decided to do on the windows. When Mike came to provide the estimates, he was very upfront about the fact that he is not the fastest contractor. He does all the work himself and does not subcontract anything. We were not overly in a hurry and that was good because Mike did take about twice as long as originally estimated, but that was not all his fault. Weather, a few changes made, etc contributed to that. Even though the length of the project was extended, I was perfectly o.k. with that because on several occasions, I would see Mike go back and fix a seam, re-tape a window, etc., if he was not happy with it. I even saw when he took down two whole rows of siding in order to fix one board that didn't appear straight. I am more than willing to give up a little time for a person who takes pride in their work, and will go fix mistakes even without being prompted by the homeowner/purchaser. Mike also replaced the lighting on the house & replaced the attic vents at no additional cost. The siding that was on the house was obnoxiously trimmed all over (typical 70's era build). All the trim was removed and certain areas of the original siding & framing were replaced due to rot. The house was tyvek wrapped and the hardie board was installed over. When the siding & windows were done, it looked great. Originally we were planning on painting the house ourselves however due to some other conflicts, we decided that we would have Mike paint the rear and we would do the rest being as we didn't have the ladder height, etc. We had not originally scheduled for this so we had to wait a couple weeks to paint due to the fact that Mike had another job already scheduled. After a weather delay, once Mike started the painting, he did a good job and moved quickly. After the first two days of painting, I decided to go ahead and have Mike just do the whole house. He was very receptive to the idea and was able to give up his weekend to get the job done before he moved on to another project. Mike's total tally of work done; 2 sliding doors replaced with framing built in (doors purchased seperatly by us) 13 windows replaced, 3 with window frames built in (windows purchased seperatly by us) 1 standard walk through door replaced (purchased seperatly by us) 1000 sq ft of james hardie concrete lap siding installed (all siding/repair work purchased by Mike) 5 lights replaced 6 attic vents replaced 3400 sq ft house exterior repainted (paint purchased by us) Overall, Mike was great to work with. He was very upfront about things, was willing to work with us when we wanted changes/add ons, and he took pride in the work he did. I would highly recommend him.
