McCarthys One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning

This company will throw parts at a system and charge astronomical prices until they fumble into fixing it. After leaving a gas leak in the line they replaced a valve on and crushing the wire feeding the control board they claimed I also needed to replace, I had another company come clean up their mess. Customer service seemed ok until I asked for a refund on parts that were miss diagnosed and I was treated like **** from there on. Get a second opinion on any work or quotes from this company. I would highly recommend that you call someone else if you want quality work.

McCarthy's is not who you are looking for. My 3 day install took well over a month. It was a parade of mistakes, laziness, and unprofessionalism. But the real problem is that they hit our sprinkler line while installing the AC. Due to being out of town and it being very rainy during the time, we didn't notice that it was running across our property to a side that isn't visible from our windows - not that it would have mattered. It flooded our guest room, which we don't use regularly. The manager claims that we were negligent for not watching our property everyday in the rain while we were gone. If we would have caught it sooner, the problem wouldn't have been that bad. Half a room flooded, and a utility room, it wasn't really that bad. So, because he's acting dishonest, we filed a claim with insurance. However, Scott and his company will not respond to my insurance so the two insurance companies can sort this out. This has to be the most dishonest and lowest moral character move I could imagine. Does McCarthy's carry insurance? Does it matter if they won't respond? Picture the work you want them to do going south terribly, multiple times, over and over. Do you want the hassle? Do you want to deal with the dishonesty. If he would be a stand up guy, we'd be done. It's just insurance money...or maybe it's not if you aren't insured.

I needed my furnace repaired. It should have cost about $300 to do. Instead, they insisted I replace my furnace, which I decided to do since mine was old. They charged me $5500 for a furnace for my 1500 sq ft house. My fault that I agreed to this. Then my brother in law contacted some people and found out that the furnace they sold me should have only cost me around $3000. When I tried talking to them about this, they were complete arrogant jerks. I am a female who doesn’t know much about this stuff, and they totally took advantage of that. I would never recommend them to anybody. Oh and they said if I got a new central air unit that would cost me another $10,000. To replace a central air unit in a very efficiently built house.

Great! On time, professional, described needs with no hard sell, performed work thoroughly and neatly.

Smoothly. They identified a couple of small things and addressed them with minimum cost.

They were on time, installation was complete in one day, Air ducts were cleaned, and were given 4 year membership for checkups.

They did a good job but I feel they strongly suggest upgrade services that aren't necessary which inflates the bill. This is the reason I no longer use them.

We have been using them for years. They are good. They know us, we know them. They put it in and keep track of their work. It's all good.

Then they sent in the sales person. What was I thinking- 2+hours of what was wrong with our HVAC and options galore, nothing $12K can't fix! That's when we decided to use our Next Door app, then cross referenced with Angie Lists reviews. Our second bid was a fix to the tune of $414.00 and prognosis of 5 more years for the a/c and 20 more years for the furnace! Oh and no crack and absolutely no co2 registered when the second company tested the furnace. I am telling all to watch out for your company! O

I have a service contract so they come twice a year. It was installed in a day. There was two guys. They left it clean.

I've been using them for 30 years. It went real well, they were very professional did a great job. On price, surprising enough i checked them out with several others and they were very competitive. Very professional. I know there are smaller companies out there that probably could of did it cheaper but the guarantee was a lot better then the smaller companies would offer. They're is a 12 year on parts and labor and if 5 years they cant fix it they will replace it for free. It was worth the money to not have to worry about dueling out more money. I had to take my granddaughter to camp, they were just about done but not quite. And I told them to shut the back door because I have 2 dogs. When you leave and shut the garage door, and that's what they did and they locked the front door. And I mean everything was cleaned up no foot print, no dirt, not a drop of anything in the house or outside. So it was like they weren't even here.

Technician came was in my home for 5 minutes. Said supervisor told him not to touch it. And wait 3 weeks for other company to come repair it. And charged me $79. And left

See above. I am cancelling my contract with McCarthy. They have never called without presently a list of very expensive things that should be done -- all were either dramatically overpriced or completely unnecessary in the first place. Example: I needed a very basic new thermostat. Their cheapest, installed, was $235. I bought one at Home Depot for about $25 and installed it myself.

Very efficient and answered our questions.

It was pretty seemless. When installers got there they didn't realize they would have to rebuild the furnace venting system. They didn't complain and just got it done. They were very helpful with explaining the new system and how it works. They helped us with the thermostat as it was an upgrade as well. They are coming back to address and issue with our returns in the basement and how cold it is down there.

Great! Advised on suggested capacity for my 2 level home, no hard sell. We picked the best unit for my house just like we did in 2012 when I got new furnace. I have used McCarthy for 20 years and will stay with them.

The installers were great. Very informative. excellent professionalism, cleaned up very well. After I signed the contract I went out to the website to request a detailed invoice so I would know the amount charged for each unit. The contract only stated the total cost of everything, no detail. On the website there was a coupon for a $300.00 credit for purchasing both units at the same time which the salesman did not mention at the time of purchasing nor was it put on the contract. After contacting them they assured me the discount would be taken off of the purchase price. After installation the installer gave me a copy of the contract with the discount applied but not the down payment that I gave to the salesman at the time of purchase. The installer took my word for the amount of down payment and accepted the balance due that I stated. I have not received a detailed invoice. I need the furnace cost and the air conditioner cost for insurance purposes in case they are damaged in the future. Also for depreciation value.

They air conditioner quit blowing cool air, but continued to run. The rep arrived, and would not enter our home without first putting on shoe protectors, even though the area he was working in has concrete floors. He was extremely courteous and professional. It was late in the day, about 9pm. He was obviously tired from a busy day, but assessed the issue. Replaced the capacitor and cordially explained the billing. Very well done!

I scheduled an annual tune-up using the $79 coupon. I live in another state and hired them to service my house that is now being rented. The service provider rang me and told me more work needed to be done and if I didn't approve him to to it right then then I would have to pay another full service fee for returning back to the property. I wasn't happy about this but I told him to go ahead and do the work. I received the bill in the mail and it showed that only the tune-up service was accomplished, not the extra work. I called the company and was told the person who did the service said I denied the service. I disputed that and the person on the phone said they would look into it and call me back. That was two weeks ago and I haven't heard back from them.

It went well. Problem diagnosed in 20 minutes; the technician ordered the motor from the warehouse and it was delivered and installed within 2 hours.

I called this company because of the good reviews on Angie's List. The service tech quickly diagnosed that the condenser fan motor was dead (I had suspected this was the problem). When I was informed what the cost would be to replace the part I almost fainted. These guys weren't a little high on the price meter, they were off the chart as far as price. While the service tech was here I had a neighbor on the phone who recently went through the same repair and he told me what he paid to have the same part replaced. I informed the service tech that they were high (he agreed with me and was very honest). I told hime that I would be calling a different company to complete the repair. I called a different company (Southwest Mechanical - See my other review for them). They were literally half the price for the exact same part and exact same repair. I should also note that this was on a weekend. McCarthy's One-Hour charges $100 for them to "Open The Store" to get a part during non working hours, Southwest Mechanical only charges $50 to do the same thing. If you have a ton of money burning a hole in your pocket go ahead and give it to McCarthy's One-Hour. If you're on a budget like my family then I would suggest calling another company for price quotes.

We have a service contract with them for inspection.

They sent the service tech out to look at the old air conditioner. Then, he had to call the "sales team" to come out and tell me what it would cost. They were determined that I would have an Amana system. Then, the next day the installers came out and installed a new AC and furnace. They said they "temporarily" hooked up the electrical and an electrician would have to come out and finish the job. I was very clear with everyone that I talked to what my work hours were and when I could be here. The install guys were great, they did not make or leave a mess and they let me watch what they were doing. They did not talk down to me. I appreciate the respect shown. It is now nearly 3 weeks after the install and no electrician has come. When I call, and it has been multiple times, I am told he is moving or the only electrician they have. I paid them up front for the system and I expect the work to be completed before paying. He is supposed to be here Sat. the 14th. I do not appreciate a 4 step approach and the amount of time I had to miss from work. They need to review their system and try to make it more user friendly for the customer.
