See above. We hired Kopecky Construction when Rob Kopecky's dad had set the standard of excellence for his company. Unfortunately, his dad died and we got the son, who doesn't care about quality. He is defintely not a custom home builder. Please understand that this was a 2400 square foot addition. We have a $500,000 home. This was no small potatoes.
Description of Work: There is so much wrong with what Kopecky Construction did with our house. It's hard to know where to start. First, we have been told that we were overcharged anywhere between 60 to $70,000 for the work that he actually performed. He double charged us for items for which I have receipts. I have one bill from him for which no one was even here to perform any work. I will name a few problems we had/have. When we first started construction, there was a bad storm and water was pouring into the existing house. We called Kopecky, but he never offered to help clean up or fix the damage that was done. His company built a window seat for which the hinges look like a roller coaster and will have to be taken off and reset. Our front door was hung improperly and I was told to have my husband rehang it. After complaining further, they fixed it. Three other doors were hung improperly, and my husband has had to fix them. All new wood was supposed to match the existing solid oak. We got Lowes premade cabinets/particle board. One cabinet has a top, one does not (in son's bedroom). The cedar for the front of the house was left outside, uncovered, and was rained on. It sat for a while before they got it on. It needed to be powerwashed because of this; they never did it. The siding on the back of the house is literally flapping in the wind, and the deck is bowing horribly. At the very beginning, the yard was surveyed. Kopecky hands me a bill for around $1,300 and told me to go ahead and pay it. This was never credited to my bill. The most expensive mistake is the $30,000 Australian Cypress flooring that Kopecky assured me they could put in because they were professionals and had been laying floors for 30 years. I pointed out before they laid the flooring that the floor was humped in several places. They assured me that this would be taken care of. it wasn't. My floor is bowing, coming up in places and creaks as if it is a 100-year-old floor instead of a 1-year-old floor. they put the quarter round down with the wrong nails. They don't even go into the wall, causing the 1/4 round to come off everywhere in the house. It's a joke. We had to insulate our house, but he charged us for it. We dug out the addition, but he charged us for it. We didn't pay him the last $10,000/our contract, but there was over $15,000 worth of work not done, plus the amount we were overcharged, plus replacing the flooring. By the way, the worker could never figure out how to do the threshholds, so we have none. The three bedrooms were supposed to have subfloor underneath them to raise them up to the height of the tile floor, but this was never done, so the floors are all uneven. What a nightmare. Kopecky is a con. At one point I walked up behind him as he was having a conversation about money with a group of people. He told them they should "Go to Jim and Vickie, they have deep pockets." Stay far, far away from this one. Fortunately, a lot of the subs were hired by us personally and all of that work was done to perfection. We never did get a CO (certificate of occupation) from him because the work was never completed.
