Controlled Rain Irrigation

Description of Work: I was moving and the people buying my house had Controlled Rain inspect the sprinkler system at the same time that the home inspector came for the home inspection. Controlled Rain told the buyers that I needed about $175 of work done (parts and labor) to move the sprinklers about in my yard. Keep in mind the sprinklers were all working and have been serviced by my professional lawn service provider of choice twice a year for the last 10 years, and I have to add that my yard was looking very healthy and green so something must have been working correctly :). Of course the buyers then wanted this fixed before the sale of my house. I contacted the service provider I have loyally used the last 10 years who said the "fixes" were opinions of adjustment preferences rather than necessary "fixes" and that there was no way that amount of work could be done for the 1 hour of labor included in Controlled Rain's $175 estimate. He then suggested that I call and have Controlled Rain make the "fixes" if they could honor the $175 estimate, as he could not do it for that price. After calling Controlled Rain and asking specifically if that job could be done in an hour's time that was accounted for in the $175 estimate, I was told "no." That led me to believe that the $175 estimate was knowingly given inaccurately, as additional time would be required for labor per a simple phone inquiry. Wanting to sell my house, I had my lawn service provider come to make the unnecessary "adjustments" rather than giving Controlled Rain the unnecessary business they sought out in what my opinion is an unethical way. They saw an opportunity to sweep in for someone's business and jumped on it by knowingly giving an underestimated bid on an unnecessary service that they knew would be billed higher once they provided the service. One might reasonably assume they also knew that this bid would not have been able to be outbid by other service providers. I will say the receptionist was very nice and prompt in answering my question. She apologized and got back with me the next day with an honest response. I did appreciate that, however, overall this experience was extremely shady in my opinion and I would not recommend Controlled Rain. Maybe the technician who provided the estimate was having an off day or made an honest mistake, however, this left a less than favorable overall impression of the company. Should you want to use Controlled Rain, make sure to get other bids first.

Description of Work: 4 year old sprinkler system not working per report of rental property mananger. Controlled Rain made visit in April and charged $178. Made 2nd visit in May due to fact system still not working. Charged $244. Informed that a 3rd visit would need to be made with repairs of $150-200. I called my own provider (Hoich) and was charged $30 plus service call of $60 to get the system working. Was told by Hoich that the wiring had been switched all around to the wrong connections, and cobwebs were covering the wiring system.

Description of Work: They did the spring maintenance on my 22 head sprinkler system and they blew out the system.
