 + -1 moreNick arrived promptly. After checking, he said the fan was not running, and he speculated that not enough insulation surrounded the pipe leading up the chimney. He gave us some ideas for changing the fireplace, making it more efficient. Updating it. When we tried to pay him for coming, he said he had not done any work and wouldn't ask for money. We insisted paying him, however, for his trip charge. We will look at ideas at their showroom and, most likely, do some renovating when it's warmer.
Description of Work: Our gas fireplace needs work to stop cold air from escaping down the chimney. Plus we thought the fan switch was broken, letting more air down. This time of year is difficult to get fireplace service people; however, we were pleased when two weeks was booked.

 + -1 moreIt went great! Dan Claxton (owner - who does the estimates) and all of his workers are outstanding. The worker's attention to detail and courtesy was awesome. The evening before, each worker would call to confirm I would be home or they could get access to our house. Overall the project took six visits: remove old unit (1 full day), install new unit (1 full day - Scott worked from 8 am to 8 pm to get it done), drywall and repair walls (2 days - total of 5 hours), final installation (1 visit - 45 minutes), extra final check (after drywall - 30 minutes). Overall, I was impressed with everyone and would highly recommend them. Suggestion - prior to meeting with Dan, search out different fireplace designs to help narrow down the choices. We ended up going through four iterations - it probably would have been one or two if we had done some homework ahead of time on different types of fireplaces.
Description of Work: Replaced a 25-year old 2-sided fire place between our living room and kitchen with a new contemporary unit.

 + -1 moreGreat experience with Claxton. We purchased a house with no fireplace, and very limited space to add one. The owner came out to give a bid, listened to what I wanted, and designed a perfect solution. The fireplace is tucked neatly in a corner, where they had to build a frame, extend the gas line, vent outside. It works great, looks great. The installers were very professional, courteous, friendly. They worked quickly, finishing everything in one day, but not at the expense of quality. The drywall professional came in the next day and also did a great job. Dan, the owner, came back to check on the quality, and my satisfaction. I would definitely use them again. Although the cost of the fireplace might seem high (a little more that another bid I got), I think it was worth it. You get what you pay for.

 + 0 moreVery happy with Claxton. From the owner through the installers and the drywall guy, very professional, punctual, friendly. Dan gave me excellent service in selecting and designing the fireplace. The installers were professional and easy to work with, and did great work. The drywall guy was a contractor who does work for Claxton, and he was great as well - on time, professional, quality work. The fireplace works great, fits our needs. Dan told me it would provide a lot of heat, and he was right! We had a very small corner to work with, and so the fireplace is a small, contemporary model, but it really heats up the entire first floor. I would use Claxton again, no hesitation.

I called Claxton and the salesperson at the other end said to install the insert I had and the associated liner it would be approximately $3500 (without even coming out to see). Considering I own the insert, that only about $500 is parts is needed and the job would take 2-3 hours I didn't even consider doing business with them (not at those prices anyway).

 + -1 moreQuick response from Larry lead to same day service from Nick. Being new to owning a wood burning fireplace, I just wanted to talk to someone about what how the fireplace worked and options to convert to a gas. Nick did a chimney check with a camera and was straight forward with that everything looked good, no issues and no cleaning was needed at this time. Nick replaced the gas pipe and extended it slightly. He answered all my questions big and small (and some maybe even dumb, but he was very polite and professional). I was extremely pleased with the service. Would recommend and will call Claxton for all my future Fireplace needs.

The chimney inspection was also efficient and honest. A complete explanation was given and no defects were found. These folks know what they are doing, and do it well.

They have only from my persistence of following up on their lack of service and making the contract whole. It has been almost 8 months trying to get a completed fireplace installation. From service technician issues, to denial of responsibility of issues of the install...Claxton has been very disappointing. Would not recommend their service.

 + -1 moreThe experience went very well. At the showroom we saw many different types of fireplace doors with various options, and we were able to choose an upscale, solid model that fit our decor. The order was placed and about two weeks later the install was scheduled. The installer was professional and thorough. It took about 3 hours to do a proper installation, but the next day we were able to use the fireplace with the doors and screens, and it worked very well. It looks great, and we are pleased.

 + -1 moreI researched several different types of retractable awnings and companies. Although there are less expensive awnings, the workmanship and durability of Eclipse in windy Nebraska made the extra expense worthwhile.
Description of Work: An Eclipse retractable awning was purchased and installed on my deck. Dan, the owner, came over to my house and measured. He also explained to me in great detail about the product and what his recommendations were. As I had worked with Claxton before on converting two wood burning fireplaces to gas fireplaces, I was familiar with the quality of their work. I had complete confidence in purchasing an awning from Claxton and my experience was excellent. Great product, great installation work, great company.

 + -1 moreThe best experience was the second trip. Dustin came today and gave my fireplace a complete cleaning. He determined that SEVERAL parts were not working, including one of the switches. He fixed EVERYTHING and I was thoroughly impressed with his work. After he was done, he actually walked me through each step and taught me how to use each part of the fireplace should I have a problem in the future. I wish I could give this company an A+ rating based on Dustin's work alone, but unfortunately I was not impressed with Claxton and not everyone will receive Dustin for their service call. The people who I spoke with over the phone were unpleasant and the initial tech was less than knowledgeable about my fireplace. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be honest if I said I was impressed with a second service call for the same work for which I'd already paid. The only thing I can say is, at least they came back out and made good on their contact.
Description of Work: We bought our home as a resale and we could not get the fireplace to work. We read the manual and we just could not get it started. I called a plumber to see if it was a gas issue, but it was not. He suggested I call a fireplace specialist to have the unit looked at. Claxton Fireplace Specialists initially sent a tech to my home and did minimal work. It didn't seem like he knew what he was doing; he barely did anything. He vacuumed around a little in the fireplace and spray painted the unit. He took a call from the gentleman at the office who scheduled my appointment and all I could hear from my end was, "She's right here, would you like to tell her yourself?" The tech was in and out in less than 30 minutes. It appeared that my fireplace was working; however, when he left I could not turn it off or turn it back on. I called back to the office immediately and the next day when my call was returned I was told someone could be out in approximately 3 to 4 weeks to work on it. I thought the time frame was inappropriate since the company cashed my check just two days later. I did not like that I was not given an option that would fit my schedule either time. It was this time on this day or nothing.

We decided to have them do a few additional things that we didn't have to. We're happy with their subcontractors. The work was done when they said they would be done, and they did an excellent job!

I really appreciated Dan coming out, taking time to get the estimate right and explaining the entire process with my wife and I. The day that their repair person came out, he was punctual and explained the process to my wife. They were done in a matter of a few hours and you couldn't tell he had to replace brick and the job was very well executed. We have since used our fireplace and it works better than ever. GREAT JOB! I WOULD USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING RELATED TO A FIREPLACE.

 + -1 moreI ordered a replacement canvas awning for my retractable awning on May 25th. I was told it would take 3-6 weeks for the awning to come in. I received a voice message on 6/12 saying that the awning was in and they would like to install it on 6/15 at 8:30 AM . Two technicians arrived at 8:30. It was raining at the time, so I didn't think they would come, but they did. They also adjusted the height of the awning. I am very pleased with the whole experience, from start to finish. I would highly recommend Claxton Fireplace for their products and service.
Description of Work: Replaced canvas awning for retractable awning. Adjustments in height of the awning were also completed.

 + -1 moreThey can provide awnings in just about any size you need, and have dozens of fabrics to choose from. Their salesman came to our home so we could match the fabric to our house color. Didn't take long to get the awning built. When it came time for installation, their two employees showed up on time, dressed professionally, absolutely knew what they were doing, and did a great job. We love the look and the function of the awning. Would buy one again in a heartbeat if we move to a new house.
Description of Work: Claxton installed a retractable awning over our deck. The quality is superb, their service was excellent, and our only complaint is that we didn't do it 10 years earlier.
