Tech said that furnace failed the heat exchanger and was emitting 1 part per million Carbon Monoxide and the furnace was unsafe to run. Offered to fix heat exchanger for $2300 or get a sales rep out to get a new furnace. Sales Rep came out and said that we might as well get a new AC unit because it will be cheaper in the long run. He offered us 3 quotes. Cheapest being $7500 and most Expensive being $15000. I then called a 2nd company for a 2nd opinion and they determined that the problem wasn't with a furnace as they read the air at 1 part per million CO2 in the air without the furnace being on. This level is completely safe and is a normal level in the air. Do not get the service contracts. It is just a sales pitch. Everytime they came out, they tried to sell us something. New furnace, water softener, etc. In my opinion, they don't operate very high ethics.
Description of Work: We entered a service contract and they came out to evaluate the furnace.

It is well documented that the suggested 5ppm maximum ānormal levelā is for āhealthy adults in good cardiovascular healthā. Pregnant women, children, seniors, people with heart/lung issues cannot withstand those levels on a day to day basis. Not knowing each individuals situation, it is possible Travis chose to err on the side of caution. The quote below is from the EPA website: Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless and toxic gas. Because it is impossible to see, taste or smell the toxic fumes, CO can kill you before you are aware it is in your home. At lower levels of exposure, CO causes mild effects that are often mistaken for the flu. These symptoms include headaches, dizziness, disorientation, nausea and fatigue. The effects of CO exposure can vary greatly from person to person depending on age, overall health and the concentration and length of exposure.---EPA I will always ask our technicians to err on the side of safety and at least document what we did find. Replacing equipment is always an option, and I believe should always be a choice. We are not the customer and we do not know what they want, we can only give them all their options and let them decide. We are also always welcome to give our personnel/professional opinion. Sincerely, Mark Evans President

Hot water heater, installed 3 years ago by Burton, was leaking. I'd been unhappy with their performance then, but decided to call them again since the hot water heater was under warranty. I was charged over $400 to replace the old water heater and pressured to purchase an additional expansion tank for nearly $500.00 I did not purchase that. The technician then stated that the issue was an electrical one. He wrote "there is an electrical short, ate through threads and tank warranty is void if electrician does not fix". The electrician (who will receive a top notch rating) just left. The water heater is gas...no electricity involved. I was overcharged and threatened that my warranty would be void by a bullying technician from Burton. Inexcusable.

It took some time to contact the member so that we could send and electrician to her home. The electrician did return and confirmed that the water heater was not grounded correctly. Even thought it is a gas water heater, it still requires being grounded. This is one of the reasons water heaters have an anode rod, which is a sacrificial device that is attached instead of the water heater tank itself. If the tank is not connected to a ground, the anode will deteriorate at an accelerated pace due to increased electrolysis. This whole process is also referred to ad āstray current corrosion". Hope this helps in explaining the confusion of a gas water heater having an electrical problem. Sincerely, Mark Evans President

The leak did get fixed originally. Two years later we had a leak in the same exact spot on the basement carpet. Burton came out several times to investigate, they made a good effort to try and help with video camera analysis and a manager came to look but told us that they could not diagnose the problem and left it at that, I left the manager a message a few days later and he never called me back. It was expensive for the hours that were spent working at my house and I will probably have to call a different plumber to look at it if more water leaks in the future. I complained about the cost at the time and they reimbursed some of the cost and gave me a free service plan but I am still not happy with the experience overall.

I did not use them because they were $10,000 higher than other bidders. They were the first company to come out and they gave me this high price. They said they could work on it right away. Then they called me back two days later saying we don't have a lot going on right now. We can give you a discount if you let us start right now. I had not received any other bids yet. Then I had two more companies come out and their bids were $10,000 under Burton's price. So when Burton called me I mentioned their original estimate wasn't very detailed. So when they called back I asked them for a little bit better breakdown on this estimate so I could understand what I am paying for. They said they normally didn't do that but that they would prepare something, but they never called me back. I will not use them again in the future.

On one of the hottest days of the year, our air conditioning unit stopped working. I checked Angie's List, and started to call a serviceman, but learned my husband had already made an appt with Burton Plumbing, HVAC, etc. It was about 2 days later that the serviceman arrived, on time. The first thing he did, after he walked in the door, BEFORE EXAMINING THE AC UNIT, was ask my husband to sign a form agreeing to pay a $112 service call fee. Thinking that this was reasonable, as the company would have to be paid for their time, IF WE DID NOT AGREE TO THE REPAIRS THEY SUGGESTED, my husband signed the form. The serviceman then checked our AC, and found that the fan motor was 'out'. The fan had been running, off and on, over the past two days, when we switched the system on to check - in hopes that it worked - while waiting for service. We were told that the fan motor would run for a little bit, but then would get too hot and stop running, so it needed to be replaced. The cost of the replace ment fan motor was $500. Not $497.33, or $498.95, but $500. An odd 'even' amount for the price of a part. He didn't have to check a parts list for that particular brand of AC unit - he just quoted us the $500 price. We found that rather odd, but agreed to have the work done. We agreed to him replacing the fan motor, which he did promptly and quickly. He then presented us with a bill of $612 TOTAL - THAT INCLUDED THE $112 SERVICE CALL FEE. We didn't feel that we should be charged the service call fee SINCE WE HAD THE FAN MOTOR REPLACED. Under normal circumstances (and we are very knowledgeable home builders with 30+ years of dealing with repairmen, now retired), the service call fee is NOT charged if service is performed. While the repairman was finishing up, I called Burton's office, to speak to the manager, but was told that he was out. I asked the person who had answered the phone about the problem, and she told me that I should discuss it with the serviceman, that "he could handle it". I assumed that meant the fee would be waived, after I discussed it with the serviceman. ON THE CONTRARY, WE STILL HAD TO PAY THE $112 - even though we agreed to the work, and had it done. The serviceman told me that he explained all this to us in advance, and that my husband had signed the form in agreement. I explained that he thought this was in case we refused to have the work done - but he told us that BURTON CHARGED THE $112 FEE WHETHER THE WORK IS DONE OR REFUSED. After some discussion, being told that 'he didn't know about a senior discount" (which is listed on Angie's List), he could offer us $25 off, as there was a coupon (somewhere) that would allow that. During our discussion, I asked what would have happened if we HADN'T been forced to agree to the $112 fee in advance. He told me: "That $112 would have been included in the price of the fan motor." I asked if, in that case, I would have just paid the $500 - and he told me 'no, the part would have been priced $612". There was no doubt in my mind, after that, that we had been 'had'. I think, when dealing with a company whose policies are so questionable, I should have called for a price on the part, and then argued my case further. Hindsight is never helpful in these cases. Had I not argued with him and forced him into offering the "$25 off coupon", I am sure he would have charged us the full $612. The best I can say about this experience is that the air conditioning unit is working now. As you can imagine, Burton Plumbing, AC, etc, will NOT be doing any further work for us. If you do MUST use this company, I advise that you get their agreement, in writing, that you will NOT be charged their $112 fee if you have the work done - and if they still refuse, find someone else to do the work. This is obviously a way to make the consumer pay a premium for what should be 'regular' work.

They were great. They were really nice guys. They were very professional. The guy came over our house to give us a quote on what he thought, we needed to have done, and how much it is going to cost. He worked with his management a lot to give us a good price, if they could. He did a really good job. When they were here, they worked really fast and really professionally. I was really happy with everything they had done. Honestly, I would say they are really good. They are professional. They know what they are doing; but they are pretty pricey. We had called them another time because we had hired them before just to change our faucet that has frozen berth. It costs us $400 just to replace the faucet. They will do the job they are supposed to do, but people need to have money to pay them. They will come when they say they would come. They do a good job.

Tony arrived at my house on Tuesday 06/07/11around 2pm he was very polite and knew exactly what he was doing. He started right away and I told him if he needed anything to let me know. He said he shouldn't and continued to work. After the Heat Pump was installed he was working on the air handler and got everything up and running by 8:00 that night. After he got done they pickep up all there trash and and Tony came upstairs and showed us how to use the new Thermostat. He was very polite and they way he explained it my wife even understood. All in all we had a great experience and we really appreciated them coming out on one of the hottest days of the year so far to get this done. I will use them again.
Description of Work: My A/C had gone out on 06/05/11 and didn't want to have to spend alot of money for a weekend fix. My wife called Burton on Monday morning about 7:30 in the morning and said that they could have someone come out to fix it around 11:00. The gentleman came around 11:30 and told me that everything was shot and needed to get a new unit. He told that he could get someone to come out early afternoon to give us an estimate on a new system. I got to be around 3:30 and no one had still arrived. So I called them back and told them someone was supposed to be out and haven't shown up yet. I told them That I had a 6 month pregnant wife. Tey immediately sent Jannessa out and she gave us a great estimate. I told her that I we had one more estimate and that I would let her know. I called her back around 7pm and she said they would but us up in a hotel for the night. because it was so hot. We ended up going with a whole new heat pump and air handler after figuring out it would only save us $300.00 just to get an A/C.

Horrible. Would never use them again.
Description of Work: We hired Burton to do a kitchen sink faucet repair. They did and then the faucet started leaking again just hours later. They came back saying that the repair didn't work due to the amount of rust in the faucet cylinder and that the faucet would have to be replaced. That was a completely understandable explanation. I told them that since their repair didn't work that I wanted them to waive a portion of the fee for their services, since those rendered did not resolve my problem and since their price to replace the faucet was far too much money. They eventually agreed to refund a portion of my money. Then they continued to bill me. The girl who I worked with in Accounts Receivable had no record of them agreeing to waive part of their fees. They gave me the run around for some time and turned me into collections. Only after that was I able to resolve with a much higher level supervisor.

When i called the office to set up the estimate i was extremely impressed with how polite and friendly the lady i spoke to was. I had high hopes based on this first contact and what i read on their website about customer service training. Unfortunately this was the high point. When the plumber arrived he just walked into the house without knocking. He just opened the door, poked his head in and called out "hello." Then he didnt even introduce himself nor shake my hand. I explained the situation and told him i would be flipping the property. He barely looked around, didnt even turn on the water to help him see what the issues were. I pointed out the basement drain that was slightly clogged, and he told me that i would "need to call a plumber." Hhhhmmm, thats what i thought he was. Then he spent 10 min writing an estimate telling me i need all new pipes run upstairs and that cracks in the main floor pipes were causing the leak. i would wonder how he knew this considering he didnt even turn the water on. He handed me the paper and walked out of the house, not even bothering to see if i wanted to hire or not, nor saying goodbye. Overall he was extremely rude and disrespectful. He didnt listen to my needs and seemed more concerned with getting out of the house. After hiring another plumbing company and getting everything repaired for no where near the cost of replacing with all new pipes I will never even consider calling this company again.
Description of Work: I just purchased an older home that had previously been vacant. There were a variety of problems from clogged basement drains, leaking facets in a bath tub, and no cold water to a 2nd story bathroom. I called several companies to get estimates and help consult with me.

We called Burton and they said someone could be out in the afternoon. The repairman did show up about 2:30 Saturday afternoon, looked at the problem and wrote a quote. We felt it was kind of high, but what do we really know and would we find someone else at this time of day? We accepted and the technician did the work installing a new water heater. Later we researched the water heater they put in and average labor for a Saturday call and computed it should have cost around $800-$1000 at most as it was an electric water heater and turned out to be pretty inexpensive. We also asked other plumbers and people who know plumbers about the cost. ALL of them said it was way exorbitant and overpriced. We then tried to work with Burton to make things right and received the run-around for a couple of days. They did finally settle for refunding $400.00 back and we decided do be done with this company and took it.
Description of Work: On Saturday morning noticed water leaking from the water heater. We were told the water heater would have to be replaced. Repairman replaced the water heater and installed a shutoff valve to the water heater.

Fantastic -- absolutely couldn't be better. Our AC gave out on the hottest day so far and Mike came out right away to evaluate the problem. He was able to jerry-rig the system to get some cooling and I requested a salesperson. Marty and I discussed the situation and he gave me a number of options. On a matter of principle I called two other companies and got other estimates and decided to go with Burton. I researched the manufacturers involved and decided on Trane. Tony spent an entire day removing the old and installing the new and we have been comfortable ever since. We had been using Burton for furnace/AC checks for several years because of the quality of their people. Workmen are prompt, courteous, informed and informative, friendly and patient with questions. Frankly, I don't think you can find better people, better products and better service.

The serviceman was very good, friendly and professional. We had no complaints about the service we received from the company. Our major complaint was the cost for the repairs. We were charged $325.00 to simply replace a value in our shower faucet, and that total is after using a $25.00 coupon. It took the repairman about 30 minutes to replace what is probably $25.00 part. Can't understand why it should cost that much. This gives plumbing service in general a bad reputation concerning costs.

I am sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with part of our service. I am pleased to hear that our service technician and service was to your satisfaction. I see that your wife was home and authorized the service. As you know there are a lot of things built into a price other than the part and the actual installation of the part. When comparing prices many things have to be looked at. Are the warranties the same? Will they answer phones 24/7/365 days a year with a live employee and really honor the warranty? Do they send someone to your home they would trust in theirs who has had 50 state background check, drug test and bonded? Does the company have enough insurance? Will they have the part on their truck when they arrive? Will they be neat, clean and professional? I could go on and on. The point is we have to make sure we are comparing apples to apples when looking at price. I wish I could supply the premier service at the lowest price but have not been able to do that to this point. All this said we want all of our customers to be happy! I invite you to please call me directly at 402-504-6168 so we can discuss further. I promise we will both be happy after the call. Sincerely, Mark Evans President

I called Burton to repair these stating that it was not critical but I would like to have an estimate and possible fix. They said they could have a person out to see me the next morning ($40 walk-in-the-door fee). I agreed, took time off work and waited at home. Around noon they called and said they were running late. Around 2:30 they called and said they are still behind schedule followed by a 4 p.m. cancel and reschedule for an 9 a.m. call the next morning (1 day wasted). At noon the next day they called to tell me they had someone available. I understand I have no idea what the quality of workmanship is, but I cannot work with a company that is unable to maintain a schedule. If things were super-busy, then they should have scheduled the consultation when there was time available instead of making me waste time waiting for them. I only expect that kind of service from the cable company and they at least don't cancel after wasting a day waiting. Needless to say, I canceled.

Things went OK at first. Routine inspections, nothing unusual. I called in the spring of 08 to schedule our a/c inspection and this is where the trouble began. They canceled our appointment several times due to other people's emergency issues. I'm fine with that, those things happen. However, I have to take off work to be at home. The last time they canceled, I never received a call. I called them and found out they were still at their first appointment of the day. So they knew in the morning they wouldn't make my late afternoon appointment and I had to call them to find out. Another reschedule, more vacation time, etc. From this point, I'm dissatisfied and just want out of my service agreement. In order to get out I have to send a letter (I didn't have to send a letter to sign up, why do I have to now?). I send the letter in the middle of June and then on the 30th, a payment is still pulled out. Of course it's in the fine print that they need 2 weeks notice in order to cancel the next payment. Whatever, I'm not saying they stole my last payment, but to me it's dishonest. They can have their last 20 bucks in exchange for me telling everyone I know to stay away from Burton. As a side note, the repair men were always professional and courteous. I have no complaints with the service performed but, rather, the company as a whole.
Description of Work: I was a "service member" for over a year. $19.90 a month got one heating and one a/c inspection a year.

Overall I am very satisfied with the work. The price was in line with other estimates I received, and the quality of the installation appears to be excellent. They cleaned up after the job, and left everything as it was.
Description of Work: Replacement of a 12 year old Carrier Cobra gas furnace that had a cracked heat exchanger. I obtained 3 estimates for the work. Burton gave me the most comprehensive analysis of my home's heating and air conditioning needs. They recommended a variable-speed blower and explained the choice between a 80% and 90% efficiency unit. The other companies I contacted just gave me the cost to replace the furnace and more cursory analysis. I had a Trane XV80 furnace installed. They came on time, spread tarps on the floor to prevent damage, and installed a furnace, air filter, humidifier, and programmable thermostat. The old furnace was removed and hauled away. After installation, they showed me what they had done (gave me an overview of the unit), how to operate the touch-screen thermostat, and left me with paperwork about their service plan.

I called and set an appointment. They arrived as scheduled. Gave me a quote. Completed the work. I had no problems what so ever. I would use this company again and recommend them to family and friends.
Description of Work: I had tile floors installed in two of my bathrooms. Burton set both toilets, ran water lines and made sure everything was in working order.
