BRAUN DEVELOPMENT & CONSTRUCTION

Due to heavy storms, my roof needed to be replaced. I asked Braun Development and Construction to give me a bid. They came promptly and gave me an estimate. I also asked for pricing on a window that needed replacing. The manager and sales tech told me that they could replace the window for $325.00. I studied the estimate and saw that they had underestimated the number of shingles that I would need. I also asked for clarification regarding the window since I was told that they would replace the window equal to the existing window. On clarification, I was told the window would be vinyl rather than wood and that it would be low end in quality. They came back with a new bid that was several hundred dollars higher than the original. I declined their offer and they agreed to roof the house at the original bid price. Two weeks later, they returned to re-write the bid and sign the contract. (August 28, 2008.) The sales technician asked me for a copy of the insurance scope after the contract had been signed. I was also told that they had 4 shingle colors and the choice of any other color would result in a longer wait for installation of the new rood. On September 10th, the sales technician called to say that BDC would not reroof for the price they had promised. Instead, they asked for $342.00 more. When I asked why, I was told that the price of shingles had gone up. I asked why they would not honor their contract. The sales rep told me the manager would not approve the job at the original contract price. When I spoke with the manager he repeated that prices had risen and he wanted what the insurance settlement had paid. I asked him why there was an attempt to raise the price of the roof at every turn. He told me that I was free to find another contractor if I couldn't trust BDC and he would not honor the contract price and I would not find a better price anywhere. I found another roofer who gave me a great price, quicker installation, and better shingle color choice.
