I would use EXTREME CAUTION when considering this roofing company. I thought, like many individuals mistakenly think, that I was doing my research before having this company come out and give us a bid. I "Google-d" the name Andy's Roofing and even checked the BBB website. By all appearances at first glance, things seem to check out. We proceeded to get the bid and while making small talk with Andy's Roofing representative, Adam H., I got a feeling that something just didn't add up. The more we chatted, the more things seemed "off" or "not right". I however, decided to ignore my better instincts and go with this company for roofing and gutters. It was a COLLOSAL MISTAKE. Allow me to explain. PROBLEM 1: I didn't trust my initial instincts. At first, things were ok. Adam H., the Andy's Roofing representative, would periodically drive by, smile and wave (this is AFTER the contract was signed, but BEFORE the work had started). That action, the drive-by, smile and wave, seemed rather staged. Again, I had a bad feeling about this, but since the contract had been signed, I thought there was no way out. About a week later, he called to say that his crew would be out the next morning to do the roof and we might want to leave the house (you know, it might be too loud). So that morning we left the house. Bad, bad idea. PROBLEM 2: We should have never left the house, we SHOULD HAVE stayed outside on the front lawn and watched his crew work. However, the silver lining is that our neighbor's house faces directly in front of our house and he watched the whole thing take place. Later that night, the neighbor came over and after I mentioned that we had already found more than 20+ nails in the yard and on the driveway, he mentioned that the company never actually used the magnetic roller that attracts and removes the nails (to which Adam H. has PROMISED to use, after I specifically made a comment that it was imperative that it be used). PROBLEM 3: After inspecting the work, I noticed that the shingles were wavy and not even laying flat. After a few phone calls and MUCH prodding, Adam H. came back out and I asked him to explain "how that looked acceptable". He agreed that it in fact, did not look quite "finished" and sent the head roofer out the next afternoon to nail down a few more places in the roof. Adam H. explained that the "wavy" look was due to the shingles needing heat to make them lay correctly. It has been more than a month and I still see the "wave". PROBLEM 4: The crew damaged the front of our house when removing the old shingles. They literally took chunks of wood off from the house. It wasn't until I mentioned it to Adam H. that anything was even said. Initially he blamed the old roofing company and then later admitted his crew did in fact cause the damage. Their remedy was to send some random fellow named "John" over and out of the corner of my eye, I noticed this man walking in our front yard with large metal cutting shears. When I confronted him and questioned him, he said he was going to cut our old gutter so that he could color match paint for the house. Later someone else came over and attempted to paint over the bare wood, which I'll admit they attempted to correct the mistake, however the paint didn't match at all. When I called Adam H. about it, he said they had actually planned on painting that entire area. WHAT?! I told him no thank you, don't touch my house. Rather, I told him his company owed us for the cost of paint and a 2-story ladder so that we could remedy the mistake ourselves! Adam H. tried to negotiate a $50 deduction off of the original bill, as if we would believe that purchasing custom blended paint and a 2-story ladder would cover that. We ended up settling at $200 off the original bill. Which knocked our bill down to $8185.00. It is imperative that you watch this company actually do the work and not trust that they will!. PROBLEM 5: They did an absolutely TERRIBLE job on our gutters! They were lopsided. Front, back, side, all of them lopsided. I called Adam H. and asked that he come to see for himself. He came over, admitted that the gutters were "not looking quite right" and said that he'd have the company back out first thing in the morning. (He even had the gall to ask for payment at the time. We explained that his company would be paid when we were satisfied with the job.) The crew never came. I repeatedly called Adam H. to find out where they were. Finally mid-afternoon they showed up and fixed them, but this time I was watching them in the driveway to be SURE they were fixed correctly. The gutter company is R & J Gutters 402-215-5633. Never an apology for their POOR workmanship. One last thing worth mentioning regarding the gutters is that our original gutters extended about 3 1/2-4 feet away from the house to keep water as far from the foundation as possible. The new gutters extend not even 2 feet from the house. Just another way that R & J Gutters cut corners, charged too much and got away with shotty work. PROBLEM 6: After being paid in full, I was in need of a final invoice stating that we had "paid in full". Unfortunately for me, Adam H. was nowhere to be reached. I repeatedly called his cell phone, unable to leave a message. His voicemail box has been perpetually full for weeks now. He does not return calls EVEN WHEN you call their 402-556-6916 number, it's simply a answering service who then forwards your information on to "someone" (when questioned, even the receptionist admitted she had NO IDEA WHO was behind the company name nor did she know WHO the e-mails went to). I'm beyond frustrated and am resigned to the fact that I made a mistake, rather a HUGE MISTAKE in thinking that this company was worthy of my business. This company goes by the name Andy's Roofing, claims they are BBB certified but if you actually check, they are NOT BBB certified and haven't been for quite some time. When questioned about that (because their sign claims they ARE certified), according to Adam H., his uncle who owns the company couldn't afford to keep their membership. Misleading. They also are under a number of different addresses. Four addresses so far that I've found, none of which are actual places that you can go in and speak to someone. PROBLEM 7: When I have requested to speak with someone OTHER THAN Adam H., I have never been able to get ahold of the owner or anyone above Adam H. Apparently Adam H. is the end all, be all face of the company. Initially he comes off as charming until the work starts and then he's nearly impossible to get ahold of after that and much less than helpful. It's a front for business and it sold me, don't let a smile and a handshake "mistakenly sell" you. Be wary, be very wary. EXTRA: New work being done ought to look better than the old. In this case, I am completely dissatisfied. The workmanship on roofing and gutters looks worse than what we originally had. Extremely disappointing. We thought we did our homework. Unfortunately, we didn't check Angie's List, as I now have discovered that there are other 'F' ratings for this company. VARIOUS ADDRESSES FOR THIS BUSINESS: 622 N 43rd Street Omaha, NE 68131 6211 Blondo Street Omaha, NE (another address on Wakley Street in Omaha, NE) and their NEWEST 3605 S 149th Street Omaha, NE 68144 NONE of which a client or potential client is able to walk in to and speak to a real human. Their ONLY MODE OF COMMUNICATION (thus far as of June26, 2013) is through phone calls from their main representative, Adam H., and getting him to answer his phone after you've paid is NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. It is my hope that we have no future problems with the new roof/gutters because getting Adam H. to answer/return phone calls OR fax/deliver a simple invoice for insurance purposes is apparently too difficult for him, I'm not convinced that getting any repairs will ever happen.

Andy Hultgren's workers ("undocumented workers" I suspect) replaced my roof in 2007. The workers themselves were polite, quick, and finished the job on time. The roof seemed to hold up well, and Andy provided a money-back guarantee. Last summer (2011) I noticed that one of my soffits was rotting, so had someone out to look at it. To make a long story short, I've learned that the roof installation was not up to code. This is from the email I received from a licensed and insured contractor who has looked at the roof: "When I inspected the roof leak, it looks to me like there was possibly a built together gutter and flashing system with theoriginal roof system. That would account for the space between the facia board and the roof decking which would have been 1x6'snailed to the rafters with a space between each 1x6 all the way to the ridge of the roof. When the roof was reshingled, 4'x8' plywood or OSB decking is installed over the 1x6's to give a solid surface. This is code and with the photos it shows that was done in JPG-5194.What should have also been done was to add a filler board above the existing facia board and the new decking extended over theedge of that filler board. At the least, the decking extended so the gutter apron would extend down into the gutter instead of behind it.JPG-5199 shows no facia extension was installed. JPG-5197 shows how decking did not extend over far enough. JPG-5190 givesa good look how the water will drain in behind the gutter into the soffit and JPGs-5193&5203 show the water damage to the soffit." Here are a few of his photos: file://localhost/Users/Caitlin/Desktop/Roof%20leak_20110728_5190.JPG file://localhost/Users/Caitlin/Desktop/Roof%20leak_20110728_5193.JPG file://localhost/Users/Caitlin/Desktop/Roof%20leak_20110728_5194.JPG
Description of Work: I hired Andy Hultgren of Andy's Roofing to replace my roof in 2007. He provided a 10-year warrantee on the roof. When I discovered a problem with the roof 4 years later, he refused to honor the warrantee, stating that the problem was with the gutters and due to ice dams, and had nothing to do with the roofing job. I've had 3 contractors look at the damage, and all agree that the job he performed was faulty. I've spoken with an attorney who has told me that while it appears that Andy is at fault, it would cost more to pursue legal action than it will to pay for the repairs myself. Estimated repairs are approximately $5,000. Furthermore, Andy requested at the time that all payment be made out to him personally and not to Andy's Roofing. I would caution anyone to think twice prior to using this business.
