They are super organized, good people, seem to know what they are doing. Very professional. Excellent communication. Looks as good as now now, otherwise can't comment on the quality as I haven't personally inspected it on the roof, but assume it was good. tech was here much longer than I thought. cleaned up. punctual, responsible, organized. Planning to hire again for some gutter work.

Description of Work: This contractor replaced steel roofing, guttering, and gutter protectors on my home. The work was done quickly and professionally, and the work crew addressed all my concerns. The contractor even stopped by afterward to ensure we had no problems. I was very favorably impressed. We had one minor followup, which we are now waiting on the contractor to resolve. | Just as a comment, we had read in other reviews that this contractor was hard to reach by phone once work had begun. Instead of using the telephone, we used text messaging and always got a timely reply.

I contracted with Academy Roofing in May 2013 to replace my shingle roof and a "peel and stick" roof for an upper story add-on. The work was to be done on June 20, with the owner present. He promised he would be here to supervise the work. On the 19th, the wrong roofing materials were delivered to my house. Calls to the owner of Academy Roofing were unanswered, but I got the vendor of the shingles to take them back and deliver the correct ones. On June 25, a crew of non-English speaking guys showed up and began installing the roof. I called Mike, the owner, who at first did not return my calls, then finally answered and said he'd come over to inspect the job and answer my concerns about it. He never came over. The Spanish-speakers who installed the roof the first day did a good job, working from sun up to sun down. A different crew came back the second day and finished the shingled part of the roof. I called Mike, the owner, again. He never returned any of my calls. I know he was busy because there had been a lot of roofs in West Omaha damaged by hail, so he has a legitimate excuse for being slow to answer or return calls, but he NEVER answered calls and never came over to my house to inspect the work or answer my questions about it. The job remained unfinished for weeks. In August, another crew showed up to finish the job and install the solar-powered attic vent fan I had purchased. As best I could, I showed them the directions for installing the fan - which were in both Spanish and English. They finished the job in one day, but took the box and warranty of the attic fan with them. From what I could see, the solar panel to power the fan was not installed properly, and I could see no evidence of the fan working properly. The gutter work that was supposed to be completed remained incomplete. Calls to Mike, the owner, were unanswered. About a month later, Mike called me for payment. Since I was not home, he left a message. I called back, leaving a message for him. He did not answer for a couple more weeks. It went on like this for weeks and weeks. In late October, Mike actually came over to my house for the first time since May, when he had visited to give me an estimate. I showed him my concerns, at last, and the yet-to-be-finished work. He said he'd be over in three days. No one showed up - not him, not his "gutter" people, etc. Finally, in late November, as I was leaving town for Thanksgiving, he showed up to fix the gutters. He said he'd come over the following Tuesday for payment. He never showed up. When I was out of town in December, he left a couple of messages for me, which I returned when I got back to town. We made another appointment for him to come over for payment. He never showed up. Finally, in January, he did show up and I paid him. Overall, the roofing job Academy did was good to very good. The immigrant workers he hired did as good a job as they could, and they were prompt and fast. They did damage/kill a large number of plants in my garden, and no effort was made to reimburse me for those. Not even an apology. I would say that Mike is a really nice fellow and no doubt knows the roofing business, but he is amazingly unresponsive and unprofessional regarding communications and commitments. He probably just needs a good business manager, so he can supervise the big roofing jobs. He also needs a supervisor to oversee the smaller roofing jobs, like mine.

The work was suppose to start on May 20 but material was delivered wrong , so we had to change out material . It was a small job ,but did not set it up to be on job site during the job. we was in a 72000 home hail storm . We check on them as much as possible . Its not normal working conditions when it comes to large hail storms . When (removed member name) call me the first few times I was out of town . I did returned the phone calls at that time . We started playing phone tag at that time . The crew does speak English and the crew chief speaks very good English . The office phone was being answered and messages relayed if important and returned . (removed member name) was out of town for a long while for the holiday and with a sick father . She did return my calls when she retuned .We did get things handled for her on her concerns and I did get her warranty papers on her solar fan . She did give a down payment on her invoice and explained the issues on her father . I told her I would work with her on the rest . Still have not been paid yet on the balance still owed . I have not pressured her about it . Im sorry we played phone tag for awhile but it was on both sides not just one side . While we where out of town we was in a major 27 car accident in Winnemucca , Nevada . I had 3 other family members in the vehicle with me that had some injuries. No excuse but we both had a lot of things ( import things ) going on in our lives at that time . It was all bad timing and thought at the last meeting that we had all issues handled . I'm still working with her after all this time on the balance of the invoice . I have no bad feelings about it , it just things happen that are out of our control. I do apologize again about everything that did happen .

We were impressed with Mike and Rick. Rick showed up on time with his crew and they went right to work replacing the house roof. Our insurance company had not allowed enough for the ice and water cover, under the shingles. Rick called them and got what we needed. A few weeks later they came back and replaced the shed roof and the vinyl fencing. Then a few weeks after that the deck cover was replaced. Then the gutter guards were replaced. It did take a while to get everything done, but they had a lot of other roofs to replace and they were very busy. Rick kept in constant contact with us and worked around our schedules. They did a beautiful job and we are very pleased with the work they did.
Description of Work: After a hail storm and filing a claim with our insurance company. I found this provider on Angie's List. They replaced the roof on our house, our shed and the deck cover. They also replaced the vinyl fencing and the gutter guards.

Mike came back for the appointed follow-up meeting. He did not walk around the property to assess damage. Mike did not have a written estimate available for us. He had written out figures he referred to for one job but had nothing for us to look at. Mike had no estimate for the second building. We told Mike the second building was our priority for this year. Mike was aware we had a claim in with insurance. Our insurance company had advised we not share the insurance adjustor's estimate with prospective contractors. We have discovered the more critical thing is not to let prospective contractors know you have an insurance claim and estimate. Each of the contractors that came out disappointed us in exactly the same way - they did not do their own work. They all, including Mike, relied on Eagleview for getting a close estimate of square footage and they asked questions about the adjustor's estimate. Mike refigured/increased his estimates based on what he learned of the insurance estimate. A property owner cannot know what the contractor sees nor how he or she values the job if the contractor does not assess the work for themselves regardless of the insurance estimate. Nor can a property owner compare contractor bids if the contractors are all focused on what the insurance adjuster reported. Mike again did not walk around the property to view other work that needed to be addressed. He did get on the roof. Mike did look at the second job and told us he would be back in touch with an estimate on the second job within a couple of days. We have not heard back from Mike regarding either job. We liked Mike, he is very personable, and as I mentioned, was willing to answer a long and wide ranging list of questions but we were put off by the lack of written estimates, the lack of initiative for determining for himself what work needs to be done and the lack of follow through on the second building. We called Academy Roofing today to let them know we would not be using their services.
Description of Work: Mike Stuck of Academy Roofing came to the house, spent 1.5 hours answering questions about the differences between asphalt shingles and metal roofing materials; certification to install metal roofing; weather conditions under which he does and does not install asphalt shingles v. metal roofing materials; gave a three day time frame for one job and six plus day time frame for a second job. Mike brought samples of roofing materials for us to examine. Mike did not get up on the roof or walk around the property, he was using Eagleview (ariel photographic view of the property) to determine roof size and calculate material needs. Mike let us know he would provide us with an estimate using three different quality of materials and that any price he quoted would be good for 30 days. We scheduled a date and time for his return with an estimate for both jobs.

Its hard to wright an estimate if you do not know witch product you want. I did have my #'s all together that we went over on the second visit. The second project was a product that we could not match. we was looking in to other products that would span the rafters that they have .My supplier was working on it for me , and I received a message that they did not need me , that they went with someone else. I was sad to here that ,because I thought we was getting along great. I would of look forward to working with them .Most all roofing companies are using eagle view for the estimating now because they are exact on the #'s. When you are working with metal roofing you do not want to make a mistake.

Background : My Decra Steel Roofing was initially installed in 2002 by LIFETIME ROOFING to replace a Hail Damaged roof. I came across Decra and LIFETIME ROOFING at a Home Show. Decra Stone Coated Steel Roofing has a Shingle look to it, is hail and impact resistant (Class 4), and comes with a 50 year warranty. Had previously replaced 2 roofs in 10 years due to Hail Damage so this looked like an excellent alternative to Asphalt Shingles. In addition, my Insurance company had a 20% discount on premiums for homes with Class 4 roofing. Also, Ice Damming has always been an issue due to my roofline and numerous overhangs, and Decra is Freeze/Thaw resistant. Looked like my overall solution. Problems: Had no issues with my roof or intallation until 2010. Severe weather and substantial Ice Damming resulted in water entry in main level bedroom and in living room with damage to walls and ceilings. Attempted to contact Lifetime Roofing and the owner Milo Olson for roof inspection and any repairs, with no success. Apparently no longer in business. Contacted Decra who said sounded like a faulty installation and had no current contact listing for Lifetime Roofing. Bought a Roof Rake ! Solution: In 2012 I contacted the Upper Plains Regional Manager for Decra. Told him of my problems and wanted his recommendations on some experienced roofers in this area. ACADEMY ROOFING and Mike Stuck was one of these. I went with Mike due to his knowledge and experience in Metal Roofing and his willingness to work with me on my concerns. Decra is interlocking panels so in order to inspect the Ice Damming problem at the eaves, he had to remove panels starting at the roof peak and work his way down to roof edge. We agreed to inspect and rework 1 section as my roof is divided by Valleys and peaks into 4 sections. We shook and he wrote the contract. Mike discovered that the Ice and Water Shield material at the roof edge had been mistakingly laid over the Felt offering no protection; and no overlap with the Fascia/Gutters. Same problem with the Valley. Without proper underlayment, the ice damming had caused water entry. (Mike also recommended better Insulation in some areas that will help minimize my Ice Damming problems to begin with.) Seeing what I was up against, Mike cancelled the Contract and we signed a new one to cover the entire roof. We both realized I had been pretty well "screwed" on the initial install. He removed all panels, saving them to reinstall. This had really turned into a Project ! Laid Ice Shield on entire roof with special attention to eaves, gutters and valleys. Reworked all valley fascia leaving no voids. He found numerous problems and shortcuts taken with the initial installation. As I was absent during much of the initial installation in 2002, I was all over this one ! Mike was very understanding of this and patiently explained what he was doing and why. As the Owner, Mike was also "hands-on" in some of the rework, insuring the eaves and gutters were right. Overall, I don't think I could have done better than ACADEMY ROOFING and Mike Stuck. Would recommend him, and I have. I know that in addition to Decra, Mike does all types of Roofing. I continue to like my Decra Roofing and it has held up well. No regrets, there. The problem I had was with the Installation, not the product. Thanks to Mike, I am now confident I have a proper install.
Description of Work: REWORKED A FAULTY AND POORLY INSTALLED ROOF: Removed and reinstalled Decra Stone Coated Steel Roofing panels on entire roof. Removed all underlayment and installed Ice and Water Shield on entire roof. Reflashed 8 Skylights and Chimney. Repaired Fascia at 4 Valleys at roof edge and installed new Guttering and Downspouts where needed.

Academy Roofing had replaced a skylight for us several years ago. The quality of their work prompted me to call the owner Michael Stuck after our recent two-inch hailstorm here in West Omaha. Mike came out immediately and evaluated our roof, recommending a complete roof replacement. He offered to meet with our insurance inspector and go up on the roof with him during the inspection. Apparently, it was a borderline situation, and I believe that Mike's on-the-spot advocacy on our behalf was the deciding factor in our getting approval for a complete replacement. Mike's estimate came in slightly below the insurance reimbursement, which was most welcome news. Academy Roofing subcontracts complete roof replacements to independent crews, but the crew that did our house worked tirelessly for 12-14 hours over two days to complete the job, including an outstanding clean up of gutters, and of the area around the house using a heavy magnet that snagged a plethora of old roofing nails. The crew members were courteous and responsive, although I was glad I had completed a few levels of Rosetta Stone Spanish to facilitate communication. They also mounted a power roof vent for me. The new roof looks great. (So far no rain, so I can't evaluate performance but will amend this review if necessary.) Mike has been very helpful in submitting claims to the insurance company. (The process is more complex and bureaucratic than you would imagine.) I would definitely use Academy Roofing in the future.

I called Mike to inspect my cedar shake roof because I saw some split ridge shingles when I was cleaning gutters. He responded quickly and inspected the roof. He gave me a verbal estimate of two bundles of shingles and $250 total for the job. My job was small but I was surprised that he was proactive in following up and came out when he promised especially since the nice days to do roofing are starting to go away with winter arriving. He also sealed up around my plumbing vent and the flashing around the chimney at no extra charge. He was even attentive and concerned that he got all the old shingle material cleaned up. I will definitely call Mike back when I need a new roof and any future repairs!

Description of Work: Academy roofing came to my house the same day that I called, gave an accurate assessment of the repairs needed, and returned in a reasonable time frame to complete the repairs. The repairs involved correcting a job that a much better known roofing company had done in a slipshod manner and charged an exorbitant price for doing. I would certainly employ Academy Roofing in future.

Mark Stuck owner answered my call and took down my information and made an appointment with me for 3 days later at 1030 am. Mark, arrived on time and surveyed the house and shed and took measurements. Mark had several cell phone calls that came in while he was there busy time of year. Mark brought out 4 sets of shingles for us to look at from 4 different vendors wide range of colors. We asked several questions before picking the final shingles. Mark wrote up the bid and explained how they would roof the house and why. He did ask in a polite way not pushy if we could complete this transaction. I declined as I still had 2 other roofers to see 1 had already been there. 2 weeks later we made the decision to go with Mark it was down to him and one other company and the difference was not price but we felt most comfortable with Mark's approach. I called Mark and the roofing date was set for the following week. ABC roofing delivered the supplies and right away knew we had too many shingles. I called Mark and he agreed I wrote down the info he provided and gave it to ABC roofing. From our guess it was just written down wrong when ABC took the order no big deal 50 bundles put up on the house and 7 left down for the shed. Other parts were there also. We had rain coming in the forecast so Mark called said if it rains they would be there the next day and that is what happened. Arrived on Friday took care of both roofs replaced some plywood and supports on the shed said the house plywood was all fine. Cleaned up driveway swept for nails explained that some of the shingles on the shed will bend down more and stay down when the sun warms them up glue was also put down. I did check the driveway don't want any flat tires looked good and around house looked good. I trimmed all the trees from the ground but Mark's crew did trim from the roof so no worries for a few years. An extra 170 for the shed I handed Mark the 5% off from Angies list told him just take that off the price of the house. Everything looks great and Mark says we have a 5 year warranty. I will write back if there are any issues but at this time I reccommend Mark and Academy roofing. JC

I began calling prospective roofing companies for price estimates on a Friday afternoon in October of 2011. A representative of Academy Roofing was the first to respond and came to my home the very next day. After multiple other estimates, I called Academy Roofing back, gave them my lowest estimate, and they matched it. A couple weeks later, on Nov. 5th, the shingles were delivered and two days later the work began at about 9:30am. The workers completed the entire project by 5:30 PM the same day. There was no debris or any trace of refuse left behind and the finished product was outstanding. I would recommend using this company.

They did a good job. I was happy with that. They removed the old skylight and put in a brand new skylight. The price included the new skylight and it also included the replacement of some cedar shake shingles around the skylight. I chose them because I had spoken with an affiliate of theirs 3 years ago who was doing work at a neighbor's on our street. Everything turned out the way I wanted. The skylight looks great and it did not leak when it rained, which was good. They did what they said they would do. They worked hard. I would definitely have them come back. In fact I plan to have them come back again in a year or so to do some additional work on the roof. I didn't get other bids, so I don't really know about their price. I wish it had been less. The new skylight was a beautiful triple glazed argon filled low-e skylight. There were 2 guys here for several hours. The guy explained to me what they were doing and what they found up on the roof. I enjoyed that, so that was good. They were right on time. I would use them in the future if I needed to.
Description of Work: Academy Roofing replaced a broken leaking skylight and repaired the roof shingles around that.
