Originally was has Mr. Knispel referred to me by an old friend. I was looking to get some remodeling done on my house and was searching for quotes. He came by and told some measurements and i told him what i was looking for and how much I had to spend since I am on a tight budget from my military pension. He left and couple days later he called me back with a quote of $3000 which was within my budget. A few days into the work and about 75% down I asked him where we stood on the budget. He stated that he was way over. i told him to stop and let me know where we stood. He called me back a couple of days later and told me the bill was at $6500!!!!. I told him he needs to send me something in writing. He finally sent me a bill which i received at the beginning of January stating the bill was now $5600. I paid him to get him out of my life. Jump forward to today March 29, 2016, I thought this was in my past. A gentleman who lived in my house as a young child brought by some old pics he didn't need of my house. While looking at these pictures I had some property questions so i logged into the Hall County GIS system to see if i could answer them. When i logged in I found that he had put a lien on my house 2 weeks after I got his bill. It has been since removed which might make this mute, but how does a guy warn others of his operating practices. Is there or should there be a regulation stating a written quote is needed? I guess the lesson learned on my part is not to trust anyone, which is pretty said, since thatss how i operated in the military for 21 years.
