John Henry's Plumbing, Heating, Air, and Electrical

Our furnace was making this weird squealing noise, and JH had installed just two years prior so we called them back in to look at it. the technician was punctual and when I couldn't help him with the issue (my husband was at work) he gladly got my husband on the phone and worked out the problem with him. He did sell us on their maintenance plan, which covers HVAC and water softener maintenance twice a year, but in exchange he gave us our visit for free and we felt confident and comfortable with his work. They have done maintenance and cleaning on our AC unit a couple times and they are always fair and willing to give advice and instruction, as well as answering our many questions, for keeping it as good as new. JH has also installed a new furnace for us and did a great job. We didn't shop around because it was literally 12 degrees out when our old one bit the dust and we had three children to keep warm so I can't vouch for price, but we were happy with their work.

I want to revise my earlier review. I asked John Henry Plumbing to replace the tank mechanism in one of our toilets. A plumber came out, left to find parts and called to tell me the parts were no longer available. I accepted this as I know the model hasn't been manufactured in years. So, I went to the plumbing supply house they recommended and selected a new toilet. The salesperson told me J. Henry would give me the standard 10% discount. The toilet retailed for @ $350; the seat for @ $50, I think. A few days later a person from J. Henry called me with the cost. I thought $618 a bit high and asked for a break-down of labor and materials and asked whether this amount included the discount. She told me J. Henry no longer bills that way and yes, it did include the discount. They give you a total cost and that's it. So, without a working toilet I accepted the total cost and booked an appointment. J. Henry picked up the toilet, came at the appointment time, replaced the toilet and took the old one. The work was done in a completely acceptable manner. When the plumber gave me the bill, he told me he would not charge me for an additional service charge (house call charge) because I'd had the work done. I paid the bill in full before the plumber left that day. A week after posting my first review we received a bill, noted as 30-days past due, for $50. The bill references an invoice but of course there is no invoice included and this is the first bill we've received. I am waiting for J. Henry's billing dept. to call back with an explanation but I can already see where this is going. I have no leverage to negotiate since I have NO itemized bill for any work and thus, NO information to question this billing. I have nothing in writing that says I received a discount on the toilet or that I would not be billed for a double service charge. I will not use J. Henry again unless all Lincoln plumbing companies have gone to this total bill approach and I am forced to. If you choose to use J. Henry I would recommend asking about the itemized bill ahead of time. This seems a highly unprofessional way to do business and there are other highly rated plumbing companies in Lincoln.

Very professional & pleasant to work with. They have been very helpful in following up on a couple things. However, I would highly recommend NEVER using their financing w/ WellsFargo. It has been beyond frustrating. Late fees assessed in error (totally not our fault) & both JH & WF say they cannot be corrected. Very aggravating.

The serviceman was very professional and helpful. Only concern is that his comments about the furnace were in contradiction to the last furnace maintenance check, which they tried to sell us a new furnace. This guy didn't see any need for the replacement, so glad we didn't listen to the first guy. Also, the last check required the replacement of the exact same part that they had to replace this time. So just over a year, and of course out of warranty at this point, but bothersome that the same part is being replaced. That said, I love the pro-activeness of John Henry, and I feel that they do fix what needs to be fixed and answer my various questions. The pricing for the maintenance service contract I think is reasonable, and helps keep things running so we never had to have emergency service in the winter or summer.

They were able to get both things done and fixed the humidifier quickly. They are very efficient and knowledgeable. One of the young men was new and not quite sure about the humidifier. He called a more experienced tech who came right out. The two of them worked together on our job and were done in no time.

The plumber was punctual, friendly, knowledgable, and worked quickly. I have children and he was great about letting us watch while he worked on the line. He made sure to cover his shoes so as not to track mud into our house.

They did some toilet repairs. They repeatedly sent work people out that did not know what they were doing. They would sometimes call out people from headquarters. I'm not sure if they were always trainees, but it was a big annoyance that we would have to keep calling. This happened more than once.

Excellent same day service. Called me when they were on their way and they were right on time. The two servicemen were respectful and put foot coverings on when they entered my home. I was very pleased they cleaned up after their service and did not leave anything behind. All repairs were made and everything is functioning perfectly. Good job.

Called John Henry's after finding a flood in a basement bedroom. Nice woman on the phone said their slots were filled for the day but that they would fit us in. Friendly repairman showed up midmorning and figured out the problem within a few minutes and had the pipes replaced in less than an hour. Very good experience!

My A/C broke down this past summer. John Henry's came in to look at it and charged me $450 to replace some freon and some part they said was broken. I paid them and had it fixed. The next day it wasn't working again. They came back and said the whole unit needed to be replaced and quoted me almost $4000 with no mention of the $450 I dropped the day before. I called Climatech and got a quote of $2200 for the same unit. I will not use John Henry's again. The service staff were professional enough, but I don't think that justifies the outrageous pricing.

The service contract is for $200; otherwise, the cost for the work is $70. I didn't pay another because I have the service contract. They were very honest about what the problem was and it turned out that it was something very simple. They didn't try to tell us that it was something more complicated. They were very personable. They removed their shoes before they walked into the house. They kept me informed about what was happening and advice just how to prevent it.

The R & R went well, but they forgot to plug in the condensate pump, so the first time we used the A/C we had a considerable amount of water on the floor, which was covered with cardboard cartons of our move into the new house. They also failed to install any failsafe circuit to prevent recurrence of the problem, when the condensate pump fails in the future (all pumps eventually fail). While they pride themselves on such professional level of service as to earn the reputation as the most expensive A/C / plumbing contractor in town, they are certainly not above making very basic mistakes. As to the new Lennox furnace and heat pump, this functions flawlessly. The variable speed blower extracts all the cold from the heat pump cold; in furnace operation it is quiet; the touch pad thermostat is easy to use.

5 minute job, $150, two employees. John Henry's is appparently a by-the-book outfit, as there was no give on their part when my wife protested about the charges.

Over all it took a couple days to get everything done and tucked away. They aren't the cheapest company to go with but they also aren't the most expensive. The quality of service and professionalism were both excellent and there was no sense of them cutting corners to get things done for a couple hundred dollars less. If you are going with a high efficiency furnace then one of the most important things is that the installers know what they are doing. These guys at least seemed to know all the rules and I haven't had any problems at all so far. I would gladly do business with them again.
