We have a radiator heating system in our home. The provider came out to diagnose whether we needed an estimate on a leak in one of the system's pipes. That was a $69 diagnoses call. It was determined that we did indeed need an estimate, so Joe came out and estimated that it would cost $550 to replace the leaking pipe. I was out of town for these two calls. Joe called me and told me there was a pin-hole leak in the pipe and gave me the estimated cost. I was a little taken aback by the amount, but he said that it could take less time and the cost could be lower. He said he would tell them to cap it at $550 and let me know if it was going to be higher. I was scheduled to be back in town on the following Tuesday, so I set an appointment to have it fixed on the following Wednesday morning. The repairman came right on time. I took him down and showed him the area that leak was coming from. There are two pipes that run parallel to each other. I told him I wasn't sure where the hole was and asked if he wanted me to turn on the system so that he could see where it was coming from. He declined and said he was going to take the whole pipe out anyway. He was confused, though, because Joe's notes said it was supposed to be a 2" pipe and the one he indicated he was going to take out was only 1 1/4". I said I didn't know because I wasn't there when Joe came to give the estimate. He left and some time later returned with a pipe. I heard him banging around for quite some time. Then he called me down. The pipe had been removed. He pointed to the parallel pipe and said - "We just noticed that this one is dripping." I looked and, sure enough there was a slow drip coming out of the second pipe. I pointed to the second pipe and asked him, "Is this one a 2" pipe?" He replied that it was. I said, "Well, it looks like you took the wrong pipe out." He said that, 'I should have had you turn it on'. He left again and was gone quite some time - two to three hours. He returned with another pipe and put that one in. Again more banging. Then he called me down and asked if I would turn on the system. After it heated up, a new leak was visible in the old junction joint where the new (second) pipe fit into an older on. There was a crack in the joint. I realize this is an older system. I'm no plumber, but I would guess it could break because of a flaw in the joint. I also guess it could break because of over-torquing on the pipe. Given that the guy just took the wrong pipe off without checking where the leak came from, I'm leaning towards the latter. They left to get a replacement for the joint. When they came back, they tore out the new (second) pipe and then called me down. They said there was a cap at $550, and that it had exceeded the $550. The charge was now $1000. I looked at the pipe on the ground. The temperature outside was dropping into the single digits at night. So I told him to go ahead with the repair. In the end, I was told by Joe that the repair should have actually cost close to $2,000 (after all - it took up the entire day) but they gave me a break and only charged me $1,000. So the repair that was bid at $550 actually should have cost nearly $2,000 and I'm supposed to feel good that they only increased the estimate by about 85% and not 265%. I realize that the broken joint was not estimated. But that part of the repair took very little time compared to each of the two pipes. I have a hard time believing that joint would cost an additional $450. I'm guessing the estimator didn't take into account the additional time and materials it would take to remove and replace pipe that wasn't broken.

Response from John Henry's Plumbing, Heating, Air, and Electrical
At John Henry’s, we take all reviews very seriously, good and bad. We take pride in ensuring our customer’s satisfaction. Unfortunately, we did not meet your—or our own—expectations. Upon thorough review of the situation, we narrowed the cause to miscommunication. As a testament to our desire for perfection, we have taken steps to ensure that this will never happen again by improving our method of communication between the estimator and the technician. It was due to the miscommunication and the technician error that we did discount your invoice almost $900. The work that the technician performed, having nothing to do with the wrong pipe, did require more work than was originally quoted. He found fittings that needed to be changed out and other types of things that did require more than the originally quoted $550. Unfortunately, with plumbing work, and most especially older equipment, that is sometimes the case. We just don’t know exactly what we are going to have to do until we are in the middle of it. We deeply value your relationship with John Henry’s and are committed to providing you with the highest level of service simply because our customers deserve the very best. If you have any further questions or comments regarding this matter, please feel free to discuss it with us at 402-435-5555.

We got the toilet through the warranty. The cost ended up being like $150 because he got the toilet off and cleaned it all up so it will work until we could get it replaced.
Description of Work: We ended up using John Henry’s Plumbing when we could not get the work done properly by another service provider. I actually looked at the website to see who I should go to because our toilet was clogged up for like days. They came out, run a camera down it, and said that if we wanted to pay for it, they would replace the toilet, but we needed to replace the toilet and so, we did.

These guys can in and finished a botched overpriced job. Not only did they finish is quickly but they were much cheaper than the contractor hired to do the work. Keep me in the loop in all stages of the project and provided an update everyday. These guys came in under half of what Mr. Rooter bid and were very knowledgeable and professional. Hands down better than most in town.

One service call employee said needed Freon, next service call a different employee said didn't need Freon. Still another service call said needed to replace expensive parts. Had another HVAC co. check out and they found correct cause, bad fan. Unit worked fine after that.

Response from John Henry's Plumbing, Heating, Air, and Electrical
It is with great concern that I address your experience with our company. I have read through your review, as well as our technicians’ notes and spoke with the technicians that were at your home. We came to your home to perform your Spring service for your Service Maintenance Plan. Your system was 1 lb low on Freon, so we added 1 lb. We only charged for the 1 lb of Freon. A few days later, you called and said the unit wasn't cooling properly. When we arrived at your home to troubleshoot the system, we realized you had reset the system and the fault code was not available. The system was working at the time. Out of good faith, we did not charge for that service call. Two months later, you called back and said it was not working again. This time we were able to find there was a low temperature sensor failure. We balanced the Freon levels to make sure that the fault code was not caused by Freon issues. Once again, the system appeared to be working when we left. We told you to run the system and let us know if it acted up again. Nuisance lock outs do happen and it could be caused by Freon levels, which we eliminated on this service call. A blower motor, a control board, sensors, etc could have been failing, but if we cannot catch the particular part failing/acting up while we are there, it’s not our practice to start replacing parts unless we know they are bad. We did charge for this service call. After we completed our last service call, we assumed everything was working properly because we never heard otherwise. If we had known the system had another lock out, we wouldn’t have charged for the diagnostic fee, we would have only charged for what we fixed, but we were not given the opportunity. You stated that another company found a blower motor not operating properly, which could have been acting up while they were there, but when we were there, it was functioning properly. Unfortunately, we didn't get the opportunity to follow this service call from start to end and determine it was the blower motor. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

I called John Henry's because they had a fantastic rating on Angie's List and because I was familiar with them from the work they did with my former employer. The scheduler was super friendly, the person that came to the service call was knowledgeable and friendly. he was prompt, checked everything out, saw that the Freon level was low, filled it and put in a new gadget(thingamajig). Since then, no problems.

While we were getting our old house ready for sale, one day our handyman noticed the furnace wasn't working. John Henry's was the 2nd estimate we received. The first person said that there was a bad valve and that the company no longer made those exact valves so they would have to replace the entire furnace. John Henry's said they could just get a generic valve that would fit, but then on further examination discovered an additional problem that would allow gas to leak. The first repair person had not even noticed this problem. We ended up replacing the furnace anyway, but we were confident that John Henry's had discovered and repaired all of the problems with the furnace. John Henry's was very thorough and took the time to look for all possible problems with the furnace.

.They gave me a price. I thought it was good at that time. I asked them for financing , We set it up to cover the cost they gave me. A few days latter . I found another company that would do the same work, for $ 1,900 cheaper. I told John Henry's. told them to cancel my deal. Weeks later I found out that they did not stop the financing of the heating and air job that was canceled. I got a credit card that John Henry's applied for me in the mail that had a $10,300 credit limit on it. I had only wanted the cost of my project financed. My bank told me the card was only good at certain companies in Lincoln, at an interest rate of 27% . I canceled the card . called John Henry's asked why they had continued with the credit even after I told them to stop the project. They said they explained every thing to me when I signed the deal. They did not tell me ANY THING about getting a credit card for $10,300 when the cost of my plumbing was only about $5,000. A few day's later when I was at my bank I met someone else got this same deal from John Henry's and was there to find out why this happened. So be careful if you deal with this company

Response from John Henry's Plumbing, Heating, Air, and Electrical
The price we provided to Mr. [removed member name] was based on his request and the needs that he presented to us. He did not share any other proposals from our competitors so we can’t address his claim of a $1,900.00 difference. There are several things that can and do impact pricing. Brand name, quality and efficiency ratings to name a few. It is our belief that Mr. [removed member name] was happy with our proposal and recommendations based on his original acceptance of our proposal. It is reasonable that there are options available for less money, just as there are options available for more money. Evidently Mr. [removed member name] changed his mind as to the quality and features that he was willing to accept. That is OK, we believe the customer is always right and is entitled to change their mind. Mr. [removed member name] also requested that we provide financing. John Henry’s is not in the financing business so we informed him, as we do all such requests, that we work with a financing company that we are in no way affiliated with but have available for people that can’t otherwise provide the needed financing. We just simply connect the customer and the financing company and assist the customer in completing the required paperwork based on their answers and individual circumstances. Once the application is complete we are no longer associated with or have any influence from that point forward. Once the customer reads the application that clearly outlines the process and terms of the loan, and signs it stating they understand these terms, and the financing company approves the loan, we are free to install their new equipment. At that point we have nothing to do with payments etc. Lastly, we have no knowledge whatsoever of any other customer of ours that experienced the same misunderstanding as did Mr. [removed member name] concerning the outside financing and our non affiliation with it. Also, the third party financing that Mr. [removed member name] decided to utilize is not associated with any bank in Lincoln. When Mr. [removed member name] made us aware that the loan documents that he had signed after he had canceled his order had arrived, we informed him he had the right to cancel his financing at any time. We provided him the phone number and also informed him that we could not cancel for him or act on his behalf concerning the loan he had applied for and been accepted.

Very well....had to cut into the drywall and cut and add piping to raise the height. Very accomodating as I did not know we would have to raise the height with the new hardware. Was able to stay and finish the work instead of rescheduling. Went smoothly and everything works great. I patched the walls and it looks like when the house was built.

Well they told me that the person would show up in late afternoon on Saturday and they finally showed up at about 5:45 p.m. I had plans for the evening and it took them close to two hours to look to see where we had water leaking from. While the provider was looking at our appliances he turned down the water heater temp and then did not turn it back up before he left. In the morning after taking cold showers we realized the temp had been turned down so we returned the temp to where we thought it had been prior to the service provider turning it down. Then we left for the day and came home the next morning to a partially flooded basement because the water heater pressure (overflow) valve broke. We just finally got the clean up finished a week ago.

Response from John Henry's Plumbing, Heating, Air, and Electrical
We apologize for your experience you had with John Henry’s. We take reviews very seriously and want to make sure we address your concerns. When our technician came out on Saturday, May 24, 2014, he was scheduled for an “anytime” call, which means he could show up at any point of the day and you would be guaranteed no overtime. Our schedule was already full for that day, but due to us installing a furnace for you in January 2014, we wanted to squeeze you in. The technician that came out was an HVAC technician. He found a leak on your evaporator coil, which was not part of the install of your furnace. He did check your water heater, as it is procedure for them to check it for carbon monoxide. He could have failed to turn the water heater as high as you had it, but they generally leave it on a safe setting. We apologize for that. Two days later, on Monday, May 26, 2014 (Memorial day), you called due to your water heater leaking. The water heater leaking, however, had nothing to do with him checking for carbon monoxide. It was an older water heater and the relief valve was leaking. We sent a plumbing technician to your home, which we ended up not charging for our technician, to make things right with you even though they were not related. We did call a restoration company that we use to come clean up the water, and also split the bill with you on that, even though it was unrelated to the original install, but again wanted to make things right with you. The service manager did call and explain everything to you, and we thought you were okay with how things turned out, but then we received this review. Once again, we apologize for this situation and hope you continue to work with John Henry’s for all of your plumbing, heating, and air conditioning needs.

They were honoring a pre purchased furnace inspection. This inspection was purchased by the previous owner of my home, but the company was honoring that purchase, which I very much appreciated. They could have easily ignored that contract after the home was sold, but instead they went out of their way to make sure I knew of the purchase and very much wanted to honor it. While they were there I asked them to upgrade my thermostat to a digital one. The serviceman was very accommodating with this last minute request. They charged me a very reasonable price for the thermostat; less than I had been seeing at Ace and Mendards.

Time range for appointment was 8-3:30am. The plumber arrived at 8:05 and got right to work after giving me an estimate. nThe work that was done was fine. They showed up approximately when they told they would and seemed perfectly competent. My only issue is the price. It took one person less than an hour to do the work, I provided the replacement faucet and the cost is over $250? Seems excessive. The plumber told me that they work on a fixed price schedule. So, for example, replacing a faucet is $200, regardless of the difficulty or length of time it takes to do the work. Mine was relatively easy. He told me that some are really difficulty "so it all balances out." It might all balance out for them, but not for the customer.
