We hired John Henry to replace our aging furnace, and replace the central air unit that was broken when we bought the house. While I was not present for the work (my husband took the necessary time off work), it is my understanding they showed up when they said they would show up, and the work was done within a day, for the most part. After they installed the heater, they noted a screw on the blower fan was loose. They did the best they could with what they had with them that day (I didn't really notice a noise), and said they would order a replacement part and get back to us. That part went slightly less smoothly. We got the furnace installed in December. They didn't call us to put the new fan in until March (though it could have been a supplier issue rather than an issue on their end, and again, if they hadn't told me there was a problem I never would have noticed). The first time they came to repair it, they discovered they had the wrong part. They came back a week later and made the repair. The furnace kept us warm all winter (for the first time since we bought our house, we weren't relying on a small army of space heaters), and now that the weather is heating up, we are enjoying the central air as well. No complaints on either. We also called them when we had a leaky shower. They made the necessary repair, explained that the leak would come back if we didn't replace a handful of other parts in the shower, and explained to my husband what he would need to do to make those repairs when the time came. I appreciated they taught us how to do the simple repair, when they easily could have charged us for another service call when the time came. I've had what I would consider perfectly good experiences with them. They've done what they said they would do, at the time they said they would do it, for the amount of money they said it would cost. What more can you ask for? I marked N/A on the pricing as I do not believe we actually got other estimates for the furnace/AC install, so I can't really compare.

They were prompt for our initial appointment; however, the follow-up with our actual estimate was delayed. They said we?d have the estimate within two days, but it took eight. I requested to receive the estimate by email twice, but it was eventually sent through postal mail. I think they may have been overwhelmed with their work load, and there may have been some miscommunication. Based on my particular experience, I would not use their service again, but I do think this is a good company overall.

Any plumbing work is expensive, but with John Henry's you get what you pay for: prompt service, quality work, and no hassles. Note: payment is required at the time the work is performed.
Description of Work: I've used John Henry's on two occasions and been well pleased both times. The first time they installed some new water shut-offs under a bathroom sink. The person who scheduled this visit on the phone was pleasant and helpful. The plumber arrived on schedule. Before coming into the house, he put on some shoe covers to avoid tracking. He went right to work and was finished in half and hour. He even cleaned up after himself. The second time I used them was for a "frozen" pipe. I called them about 10:00 pm and they came out within an hour. The plumber again used the shoe covers. He was able to get the shower working without using the "welder". In this instance I was charged only for a service call but not for any actual work.

We called John Henry originally because of a positive review on Angie's list. We were not disappointed.
Description of Work: We had John Henry come in to do some repairs on a boiler furnace, and a follow-up estimate on replacing our gas furnace and AC. We asked about duct cleaning. Ryan at John Henry told me they don't do duct cleaning, and he recommended Duct Medic in Lincoln. In fact he said he uses Duct medic to clean his home air ducts.

Our hot water heater sprung a leak, on the weekend of course. We called John Henry's early Monday morning, and they arrived by 11:30 the same morning. Very prompt professional, tidy, efficient. So what's my complaint? I had done some on-line investigating about water heaters, and had decided I wanted at least a 10-year warranty. John Henry's offers a 6-year warranty, only. After some negotiation by phone, they agreed to provide a 10-year warranty for an additional $80. Same water heater as the 6-year warranty. I asked if the warranty would be prorated at the time of failure, if it included labor, etc. The plumber at our home with my wife was very courteous, but not able to provide any of these details. We were obviously at a disadvantage in this situation, so we had them complete the installation. We have had John Henry's do work for several years and have been generally very satisfied. This situation was our only complaint, hence the "B" rating.
Description of Work: Replaced a leaking hot water heater. Drained and removed old heater and hauled it away.

I came downstairs to the utility room being full of water. So I called John Henry's to check it out, and they were here within 10 minutes. They snaked the sewer line to check the problem, and it turns out the tree in our front yard had grown into our sewer line. Awesome this is going to be expensive!! They quoted me a cost of $2400-2600. They came out to the house and dug up the front yard, to get to the sewer line using a backhoe. I was surprised at how deep the line was buried. I couldn?t even see the guy in the bottom of the trench working, and he was taller than me. They ended up replacing the entire sewer line from the house all the way to the city line. After they were done, they repacked the dirt in the front yard, reseeded the grass, and even replaced the sidewalk that broke in the process. I also loved that the final price came in much lower than what they quoted. They did a great job, and I would definitely use them again for any plumbing issues.

Overall, I was satisfied with their work. They retrofitted an existing sink and installed a new hot water line for a dishwasher I installed myself. I had only one issue - they installed flexible plastic water line under a joist in an area where we had ceiling tile installed directly to the bottom of the joists. I wasn't overly happy with it - but they made it right by discounting some of the costs. I would recommend when you work with any plumber on items similar to this that you make your intent clear about ceiling. That way they know whether or not they can run something under the joist or if they have to drill through the middle of the joists to install plumbing lines.

Our water heater was on the fritz and we called several places in an attempt to restore our hot water. John Henry's offered a reasonable rate to come out and give us an estimate. They were able to come out the very next day to look at the water heater. The service man brought out cameras and showed us what the interior of our water heater and furnace looked like. They were both on the verge of rusting out and were both reaching the end of their lifetimes. They then sent out an estimator to look at what we had and give us the cost of what it would be to replace the units. He found out what we wanted and discussed everything with us in a manner we could understand. We decided to replace the units and they were able to schedule the installation for the next day. The speed and professionalism of every service man that came into our home was superior. They all placed booties over their work boots before walking across my floors. They removed the old units and put in the new units in less than 6 hours (including creating a new vent to the outside and replacing some of the interior ventilation). The estimator followed up with us in a few days to make sure our new appliances were in working order and that we were satisfied with the service/products. Overall, John Henry's was quick, efficient, friendly and professional and we felt that we got a great value for the price.

Horrible. Would never use them again.
Description of Work: I called because I was having furnace problems. It was very cold. I was without any heat for about a week--with several technicians coming and going. I finally had to have a new furnace installed. It was expensive and I was promised that I would get a $300 tax rebate credit. In fact, it was $50. I had to call repeatedly to get the technicians back because the problem was not fixed and they said each time I might be charged again. Sometimes I had to chase the technician after he left, because the furnace would quit within minutes of them leaving. I have also seen NO savings as a result of the more efficient furnace (with increased insulation, having all the windows newly caulked, the chimney blocked, and using a programmable thermostat). The amount of natural gas used is the same as last year (the cost of course has gone up). They threw out my reusable furnace filter, which I had to replace. It took forever to get the problem resolved.

Response from John Henry's Plumbing, Heating, Air, and Electrical
The tax credit referred to was a Federal Credit that is determined by the Government and at that time was UP TO $300.00 based on what equipment was installed. We cannot and do not represent what the actual credit is and advise our customers to check with their tax preparer to see if they qualify. This is done as a courtesy because most people are not aware of these available credits. Actual energy savings on new high efficient equipment is based on ambient temperatures and the variances of the time periods being compared. If the average temp. is much colder than the previous time period the gas usage can and will increase based on the demand caused by the colder temps. The savings result in the difference of what the old equipment would have consumed compared to what the new equipment actually consumed. This customer was credited for all service calls made prior to her decision to replace her furnace and a firm price was quoted before the installation was completed. This customer paid the agreed upon price less the credits given for prior service calls and we never heard another word until this posting. We have attempted to contact this customer to no avail. We will keep trying, All customers are very important to us and certainly want to clear up any misunderstandings.

Excellent. I called the company on the weekend and they were happy to take a message and have someone call me. They called first thing Monday - as promised. They gave me an appointment time of between 9 and 10 a.m. which was fine with me. The tech called from the office at 8 to see if I was home and asked if he could come early. He arrived at 8:30! The tech was very professional and explained that the thermal coupler had gone out on the heater. He cleaned and serviced the A/C unit and everything checked out great!
Description of Work: Called because the pilot light went out on the heater and I wasn't able to get it lit on my own. I also had the service tech check out the A/C while he was here.

The service was great! I called on Saturday to see if I could make an appointment for today - the gal that answered my call took my phone number and said someone would call after the office opened at 7:30 on Monday. The phone rang at 7:32! I was given a choice of two hour windows throughout the day and asked if I wanted a call when the service man was on his way. I chose 2-4 pm. They called at 3 and he was here at 3:15. He was all done by 4:15 AND took all the packaging and the old faucet with him. He even answered a quick question we had about moving our fridge, which has a water line for the ice machine, for cleaning. Kudos to Todd from John Henry's!!!

We were so impressed with Steve that we bought a gift certificate for him to take his wife out to eat after spending so much of a Saturday at our house.
Description of Work: We have a water heater installed in 2005. It is an energy efficient one that exhausts through the wall, 50 gallon. It is in a Victorian home where I operate a bed and breakfast. At breakfast after 4 guests had showered, there was no hot water. My husband called the company that installed the water heater and was put on hold. After 10 minutes he hung up and called John Henry's plumbing because he uses them for his work. The service man, Steve, came and couldn't get the unit running, so he went to a hardware store and got a wire to use. He was there 3 times that day and got it running. He also called back at 10:00 pm to make sure we still had hot water. I was able to keep my guests instead of sending them to a local motel to shower.
