Company provided good information on product options, pros and cons of each; gave us plenty of options of siding to go with. He allowed us to make the decision; we weren't "pushed" into his choice. Delivered materials on time and crew started right away. Messy prep work; but to be expected on the project. When unplanned issues came up, he contacted us to tell us and let us make the decision on changes. Work was completed on time and we have been very happy with the results, no callbacks or problems. It is important to do homework and shop around so that one is familiar with products, do ask questions, do ask for references that you can drive by and see. Overall, this was a very positive experience that enhanced the value of our house and added curb appeal; we highly recommend this company.

Started and completed project on time. Assembled kit and shingled roof in just a few days. Had a minor issue that was quickly responded to and resolved without question. Lance and workers seemed to want to make sure we were happy with finished product Followed up after the job was done and wasn't scared to ask us if we were pleased. Very confident that we could rely on service after the sale! As far as the price, we received firm quote prior to work being performed and that is what we paid. Originally we had another quote that was a few dollars less, but Lance was very eager to earn the business without sacrificing quality and was recommended by one of our other contractors who we were happy with so we chose his company. Very happy with our decision to use JL Exteriors. Thanks to J L Exteriors and their staff we are really enjoying our pavilion and will for years to come!

Lance of JL Exteriors did an outstanding job during a long and complex deck/sun room project. One vendor managed to ship the wrong custom French door and sidelite unit - wrong color, wrong opening (would block the deck stairs when open) - AND the wrong patio door (wrong side opened). These units were nearly $10 grand worth of hardware; Lance took care of it all and made it right. What could have a disaster (and a court fight!) turned into a routine delay instead when the vendor took back the incorrect products and replaced them with the correct units. He also made sure that the final details of both the deck and the screened-in sun room below came out right in both appearance and function. Highly recommended. This project is featured in JL Exteriors current TV ads and made our comfortable but somewhat cramped 1979 brick ranch with walkout basement into our dream home.
Description of Work: JL Exteriors designed and constructed our new screened-in sun room and cedar deck. This involved: Removing old 12 x 15 concrete patio; Pouring new 15 x 20 patio and 24" knee walls for sun room; Constructing new cedar deck and staircase above sun room; Removing living room window on 2nd floor and installing custom-ordered Eagle by Anderson French doors and sidelites to fit this space, included removing part of living room wall to fit door unit; Wiring for sun room - four wall outlets w/weather protection, one wall switch for ceiling fans, one new exterior wall outlet, wiring to circuit breaker panel in basement utility room; Installing aluminum Underdeck ceiling and gutter system to waterproof sun room and ceiling fans (water falling through deck boards above is channeled to a rain gutter via aluminum ceiling panels, ceiling fan wiring waterproofed and two ceiling fans are damp rated); Installing screening around sun room to provide insect-free outdoor living space. The Mrs. has wanted a deck to extend the sight lines of the living room and outdoor living/entertaining space since buying the house in 2004. We can watch the sunset from the living room, or from the deck - where we can also see the Capitol (house is east of 70th St. and Holmes Lake Park). If it's windy or rainy or the bugs are biting, we can walk down the cedar staircase and retreat to the sun room. We have six mostly grown children between us, and in the short time we've had the deck/sun room have used it often. Spring and warmer weather will bring lots more use of this wonderful space. Worth the time and effort by far.

We had JL Exteriors side our entire house and replace to corner floor-to-ceiling windows. We have worked with contractors before for various projects large and small and I can honestly say that Lance and his crew were one of the best experiences we've had. Their dependability and quality workmanship were top-notch. Our house was built in 1985 and had the original Louisiana Pacific siding that was deteriorating badly. We sought bids from four different contractors to replace the siding and gutters. We knew we wanted cement fiber-board and chose James Hardie’s product for each of the bids. Lance’s bid was competitive with the other three, but we chose his company because of the thoroughness of his proposal. All four companies submitted their bids to us by email, but it was Lance who followed up with a phone call arranging a time to come out personally and explain the proposal. During this meeting Lance not only went over exactly what was to be done and the cost involved with each process, but he also provided names and addresses of past customers so we could look at the quality of his work before making the decision. To offer a point of comparison, one of the other three bids that came in was only one page in length and the description and breakdown of the work didn't even fill up half of this page. This particular company offered free gutters with a whole house siding project and even then their bid was higher than JL Exteriors. The work began on November 8, 2012, two weeks from the Thanksgiving holiday. Lance told us that the project would take approximately 15 working days and his crew only worked Monday through Friday. We knew up front the work would not be completed before the holiday and that his crew would not be working on the Thursday and Friday of the holiday weekend, which was fine with us as we didn't have to worry about banging and such going on while we were home during this break. The Pella windows were installed before the holiday so we were able to get the curtains back up. The crew arrived every morning by 7:30-7:45 am and were packed up and gone each evening by 5:00-5:30 pm. If we had any questions or needed something moved to get a car in the driveway they were very accommodating. They did find some rot in one section of the house and fixed it before installing the siding, but not until showing us the section and getting our approval. At the final walk-through when the work was complete there were a couple of minor things we wanted done and these were completed to our satisfaction. We love the way our house looks and would highly recommend JL Exteriors.

We didn’t use them. They estimated around $2500. Their bid was too high and so we went with another company that charged us about $1000. The people from JL Exteriors seemed professional and decent. Everything about them was good except for their bid. I am sure they would have been good. They seemed very thorough and detailed. It seemed like they wanted to do it right. I think they would have done a nicer job, but we would have ended up paying twice than what we wanted. They came right out when I called them. So their responsiveness was very good. If need be, then I would contact them again for a quote in the future.

Thanks for the review. I wish would could have done your project but understand if the price was to high. Sometimes we might be a little high on a project like yours due to the fact we don't know exactly what we are getting into until we start so we have to bid in for the unexpected things that might come up once we get started. Once again thanks for the review.

I asked them to come out for an estimate on some remodeling work. They showed up an hour after our appointment time. After they inspected the area where I was wanting work done they said they'd be back to me in 24-48 hours with 2 bids, one for good and one for best. I never heard from them again. Time wasters.

As to "The Members" comment: I would like to set the record straight about this comment, I was a little behind schedule that day but I did call ahead and tell them I was running behind and they stated that was ok and they did not have any plans or other appointments. As for the bid: "The Member" wanted us to give them an estimate to move some stairs at there apartment which had there retail store below, after talking to them for quite a while, inspecting the area and going over some ideas with them I had some major concerns with doing there project. 1. The existing stairway to there upstairs apartment exited to the lower street level and acted as a fire exit for the apartment and they wanted to eliminate the exit to the street and have it come into the retailer store which would not have been a legal fire exit. 2. The building was built in 1915 and had Lead Based Paint in the structure, Since we are Lead Certified Renovators I told them the proper procedures that we would need to take in order to perform safe work practices which in this case would have needed to be done and done well since they had 2 children under the age of 6 living in the upstairs apartment. 3. "The Member" stated that they would potentially like to avoid pulling any permitts for this project as they were affraid that the property value of the building could possibly go up and did not want to potentially pay more in taxes. To conclude, We did not feel comfortable with the potential liabilities associated with this job, "The Member" stated we would provide 2 bids one for good and one for best which meant one (best) with pulling permitts/ lead paint removal and doing the job to the higher standards that we are accustom to and one (good) with out pulling permits and not practicing safe removal of lead based paint. Again we did not feel comfortable with anything about this project, I could have reffered them to another contractor but did not want to put them in the same situation I was in with bidding this job. We should have call "The Member" back and stepped out of the bid and we apologize for that.

Lance (the owner) was a pleasure to work with and very professional. He walked through each section of the estimate and we did a walkthrough at the close of the project to make sure we were satisfied with the work. His price actually came in under estimate and the work was excellent. On the very few items we did notice along the way that were leess than satfisfactory, Lance came by to fix personally, often before we had a chance to mention it. I will definitely choose J&L Exteriors for my next project.

He and his crews were professional and prompt. They did not leave anything undone or cause any kind of a mess. They went above and beyond to get our problems taken care of. We would definitely hire Lance and his company for any jobs we may have in the future.
Description of Work: Lance and his crew (J and L Exteriors) took over a job from another contractor we had hired. They came in and did an awesome job on the siding. We were still having leaks from the previous companies ineffective job on our roof. Lance came back and fixed their mistake at no cost to us. He stated "That's what Customer Service is all about."
