Good at first. Brummer came and gave a detailed estimate for the outside and inside of building. He low balled the estimates and then he is very good at finding other things that are wrong and need to be fixed. As is fixes them he pads his estimate and charges more. For example, replacing two 6 foot pieces of base board, we were charge $60 for material and it took 2 people at $45 an hour six total hours to complete - do the math - $330 for what should be a half hour job. He also goes to the most expensive stores to get his supplies. His estimates will say "one coat of paint" when most jobs need two. Basically, we feel he low balled the bid and then his add on's were twice/three times as much and as a contractor he didn't keep us abreast of his charges only taking his weekly draws. We feel we were over charged, he didn't finish a single job on the inside and he left without finishing them. Ss
Description of Work: they gave us a bid for the inside and outside of our building and did not finish the job and over charged us triple. Then after a conference to see where we were at on the project and finding out they we were over charged they picked up their stuff and left the site.

Response from BRUMMER PAINT & RESTORATION
We started the job with an estimate of the exterior and interior painting, some minor repair work on the exterior siding. We were told the office manager had free reign over the job by the owner of the building. As we continued with the job we pointed out problems and remedies for the exterior and they said go ahead and add it to the estimate. We billed them weekly and they paid a totall of $37,984.00 which was less than double the original estimate. The office manager kept asking us to do more and telling us to add it to the estimate. We were told all along how great of a job we were doing and told by the building owner couple of his buddies had said they wondered if he had built a new building it looked so good! We told them we appreciated all the additional work and they said keep going. We finished the exterior and they wanted us to do the interior. The very first few hours of work in a hallway we were told by the office manager that we need to repair all the needed patches and add it to the estimate. The interior estimate was for one coat on walls, trim, and no patching, no repair. We were asked to fix and repair doors that did not work properly, doors that didn't close, walls that had apparent water leaks, sheetrock damaged by removal of shower in bathroom, installing new door lock and purchasing them, The list is long. The building hadn't had anything done to it in 20 or more years according to the owner. They changed the interior colors and wanted two coats of paint since changing colors would not hide previous colors. When we had a meeting with the owner of building, owner of business, and office manager they had admitted they were wrong and should of kept up with the additionals better, and shame on them. The office manager who had approve all additionals was quiet. The building owner was not happy about the additonals but was agreeing they should pay us. The business owner was furious, making cutty remarks and saying they are not going to pay us a dime more. We were to finish the painting downstairs whatever it took, extra coats of paint, patching walls if needed, and he wasn't going to pay us a dime more. We told the three of them we could not finish if they were going to stop paying. We were told to get the "blank" out of there before it gets ugly by the business owner. We packed up everything of ours, gave back keys and security door pass and left. The owner of Brummer Paint tried to work with them but the business owner would not at all. We did a very high quality job-as they had told us many times-but they did not want to pay for the additional items they had approved. We feel we bent over backwards-working weekends, doing anything they wanted, but were deceived into believing we would be paid for it.
