I bought a house that had a plugged bathroom drain. The seller hired Biggerstaff Plumbing to unplug the drain back in December. Now that I'm in the house and washing clothes the shower drain is still not working correctly as the washer is immediately backing up into the shower. I called and spoke with Doug to see what the problem was and how it could be resolved. He informed me over the phone that due to the age of the house, that the washer and shower are probably tied into one line (makes sense as they are right next to each other). When I asked how this could be resolved Doug was a permanent fix would be to tear up the concrete and redo the drains correctly. And yes, I would agree that would make the most sense. Since he already told me how the drain was most likely setup, wouldn't it make sense to verify that when unclogging the shower drain that the washer wasn't inadvertently plugged in the unplugging process? That's what a professional plumber should do, right? According to Doug no ... he told me there's no way to know what other drains might be plugged. Then compared asking a TV repair man to expect to also fix a computer! Not even a good comparison Doug?remember you just explained the shower drain and washer drain are tied together based on the age of the house. Biggerstaff had an opportunity to keep me as a customer by offering to come over and look at, but no, he just kept on arguing with me. What a poor way of keeping or gaining new customers. Instead, I'll hire someone else who has a professional attitude.
Description of Work: unplugged a shower drain ... or supposedly did.

Biggerstaffs are very professional and a wonderful firm. Not only are they friendly, on time and fix everything correctly but they are also very experienced in many areas of the plumbing field. I remember years ago they replaced a furnace and air conditioner for me and the when the city inspector checked it, he said they always do good work. They certainly do. I would recommend them to anyone. They are always on time and know their products well. I have 5 houses and townhouses that I would not want anyone else to fix but Biggerstaffs.
Description of Work: Provider performed 2 services for me. I have rentals in Lincoln and they serviced an air conditioner and furnace at one of my properties.

June 2011... It was hot. The cooler wouldn't cool. So I called three HVAC companies to see who would give me the earliest appointment. I made three appointments at three different companies and and asked each that I be considered if there were any cancellations. The next day, when Biggerstaff's appointment was 2 more days away, they called to see if I could meet someone at the house immediately. I said yes and met Marty in my backyard. Within ten minutes, he had determined that the starter capacitor on the compressor motor needed replacing, and the system needed recharging. He accomplished both quickly and left. Total charge, about $110. He wasn't gone ten minutes when the guy from the first company showed up at his scheduled appointment time. and quot;So you need me to replace your compressor.and quot;was the first thing out of his mouth after introductions. It was transparently clear that I was not a problem to solve but a simple profit opportunity. I sent him on his way and cancelled the other appointment. Marty was very clear that my old 1973 unit was fairly indestructible and with appropriate maintenance would run basically forever, it would just continue to draw 18 amps while the new ones would draw 8. He fixed the problem for $35 instead of unnecessarily replacing a compressor for hundreds of dollars. I appreciate that honesty. In 2012 he was back to recharge the unit with similar speed and reasonable expense. If every HVAC tech was so good we wouldn't need Angie's List.
Description of Work: I can only comment on the service from their tech Marty, because he is the only one that has done work for us. We have a large old prairie style house in the near south with a central air unit installed in 1973. I know, because Marty looked up the serial number for us on his first visit. The unit was short cycling and not working very well in June of 2011 when we first called. Marty serviced the unit in June of 2011 and again in June of 2012.

I was very happy with the humidifier installation, and I was especially thrilled with the fact that Biggerstaff doesn't charge a $70 service charge, just to com out and diagnose the problem. That's why I called them the second time. After diagnosing the problem at one visit, Marty scheduled a return visit for another day with appropriate materials. It tood about a half-day's work for Marty to seal everything properly, which required climbing into the attic through a tiny linen closet, then crawling around in the insulation for 3-4 hours. Turns out there was even a 4 inch gap betweein the vent to the outdoors, which was pouring in cold air in the winter, and hot air in the summer. I was especially excited to hear that sealing everything would lower our cooling bills, as well. Overall, I felt that this technician really knew his stuff, and was a good problem-solver. I really appreciate the fact that he explained the problem to me adequately and didn't treat me like an idiot. The company seems to care about the quality of their service, because when they sent me the bill, they enclosed a questionaire to ask how their doing and how they can improve. The schedulers on the phone were polite and helpful. Since the 2 visits, things seem to be working quite well, and the humidifier has made a very noticeable difference in the house. I would definitely use them again for heating and air.
Description of Work: 1. First visit was to install a whole-house humidifier that we'd already purchased. The technician, Marty, did a great job with installation and showing me how to operate the unit and change the filter in the future. I had him install it in the main (downstairs) furnace. I believe this cost about $280, plus the cost of the unit we'd already purchased. 2. A few weeks later, the upstairs furnace quit working, and I had Marty come back for what I assumed was an unrelated problem. As it turns out, the extra moisture from the humidifier exposed an unknown problem with the second heating and air unit in our home (the one located in the attic). It had been installed by a previous home owner, and had been done sloppily and never inspected, with the venting never properly sealed or insulated. When we increased the moisture in the house, it was collecting in the the attic and was tripping the moisture trigger, and so the furnace was shutting off. Repairs from this second visit are the amount quoted above.

Professional installation when they promised to be there and service has been excellant.
Description of Work: We purchased a replacement furnace and air conditioner. They did a great job getting us the rebates and incentives to be able to put in a high efficiency unit with a smaller furnace. So far we are very pleased with the installation and operating cost.

They are good. They come once every 6 months to service the furnace and a/c unit. They also do plumbing for us. They are dependable and when we call them they come the same day. They are reasonable and the quality is excellent. Their professionalism is very good and I will continue to use them, as they are familiar with our requirement.

They either put in shoddy equipment in our house or they put it in incorrectly. The motor in my furnace died less than 3 years after it was installed. The labor was not covered by my warranty so I had to pay $800 to replace the furnace motor. Then when the air conditioner went bad I was told I needed to replace the air conditioner or they would have to run tests for 3 weeks. Because the air conditioner was old and it was blazing hot outside we did not have 3 weeks so we agreed to put in a new one; but the new one still would not work because a large part that they put in when they put in the furnace is part of what makes the air conditioner work and that part was bad or incorrectly put in. We had no way to know whether they made a mistake or not so we ended up paying for an air conditioner this past year when we really could not afford it. When we discussed this with them they were very rude. I will not use them again in the future. I don't feel like they should be selling things they don't stand behind.
