We did the project design ourselves and provides most of the materials. JB Services was simply to install cabinetry, do light plumbing (ie run the water line to the fridge, install toilet), hang some doors, and install tile flooring. He showed up the first day to work only a couple hours and requested 1/3 of the project amount. Per our agreement 1/3 was due after his first day of labor, so while he only worked about 2 hours he received 1250.00. Our agreement stated that 1/3 was to do be after the first day's labor, 1/3 at the 2/3rd's point, and the final 1/3rd at the projects completion. Over the 4 or 5 day period we worked with him, he asked for "advances" and partial payments on work done prior to reaching our agreed upon payment intervals. We kindly agreed to two progress payments despite the arrangement. We also offered physical assistance in moving cabinetry and counter tops when his helpers failed to show a couple times. We lent him use of some of our equipment as well as a tile saw. After being told we were "taking food from his children's mouths" and numerous other guilt trips regarding simple expectations on our part that he install the garbage disposal and toilet as a part of the plumbing per our agreement. Our relationship ended with us cancelling our contract with him on the basis of missed deadlines, unprofessional treatment and interactions, sub-par, to say the least, tiling, broken promises, and clear cash flow issues on his side of the contract. The tile project was a wood floor style porcelain tile. The tile was installed poorly; it's not close to level, the pattern is poor, thin set was left all of the tile, and the spacing is horrendous. The third parties we have contacted to assess the work, all simply state, the job done was sub-standard and not professional in the least. We are currently trying to assess the cost to fix the obvious blunders and make the floor livable. Jason seems to be a hard worker, but this specific project was clearly beyond his scope of ability. I would also warn anyone considering dealings with him, his manner at times lacks taking responsibility for mistakes and offering to correct them, and stating he would assist us with portions of **HIS** job **WE** offered to complete in order to meet the agreed upon deadline. He told us he would come offer advice and when we requested his help we were told emphatically NO.
Description of Work: Jason was asked to install cabinetry, quartz counter tops, tile a bar and bath area with porcelain tile, install doors, and do finish carpentry for our theater rec room basement. We released him after he installed the cabinetry (which was done well), however, the tile floor the first time was an abomination, the second go around was slightly better but still, in other 3rd party impartial opinions, not professional quality.
