Description of Work: They removed a very tall, dangerously leaning cottonwood tree that other service providers either refused to do or priced significantly higher. Several other trees were removed along with the very large one. The service was exemplary. The job was more involved than initially estimated, but they stayed on the jobsite late until it was completed. Cleanup was thorough and the work was top-notch.

I would highly recommend him. Not only did he have the lowest price out of everybody, the work he did and the crew he had were phenomenal. I have never seen 3 guys work so hard. I don't think I have ever given anybody $100 bonus on top of their quote, and these guys I did.
Description of Work: Moving a clump of mulberry trees.

When I first moved into my new home in May, a neighbor stopped by to introduce himself and mentioned that one of his long-time friends is the guy over in his yard making all the chainsaw noise. He owns a small local operation called DD Tree Service. The neighbor was having several trees trimmed back for safety purposes. I knew I would need some trees removed before the winter, as several were obviously dead and a few of the larger ones were questionable. I have a steep slope in my backyard and the trees were located fairly close to the house. The largest tree, which posed the greatest potential hazard, was a cottonwood that had been in decline for years. It was approximately 120 feet tall and the main trunk was sharply angled; it did not look like it would be easy (or safe) to remove. My first call was to the neighbor's friend, DD Tree Service. He came over to the house promptly, took a thorough look around and then gave me a quote of about $860 or so for a total of 12 trees to be removed. He also mentioned that the largest one would leave a very large stump and offered to grind it out at no additional charge. With all of the projects that come along with moving into a new house, I didn't get back to the man from DD Tree Service on his estimate right away. When I did finally call him back, I didn't get an immediate response. He did call me back a few days later and apologized for missing my call. He runs a sole proprietorship with no marketing other than positive word-of-mouth and apparently all of his business contacts go straight to his cell phone. I couldn't fault him for that, since he was on a brief vacation when I tried to contact him. In the meantime, however, I did call two other services to get an estimate, just in case he didn't call back. One told me that due to the hazardous nature of removing the large tree, he would have to get a large boom truck down on the road and provided an estimate north of $3000. The second person came by, saw the angle in the yard, the threatening posture of the trees and simply said NO. DD Tree Service came by as scheduled and got right to work. It was the owner (I think his name is Dan or Dave) and a crew of three other guys. Within an hour, virtually all of the small trees were down and moved out of the yard. They got to work on the big ones and that's when the real show began. I learned that large tree removal in confined spaces is extremely hard word and an art form. He did a marvelous job and it was fascinating to watch the coordinated efforts between the owner, suspended high up in the tree, and his workers down below. Unfortunately, the tree proved to be as much of a pain as one could expect. It ended up taking much more time than anyone had estimated, and not for any lack of concerted effort or skill. It was an unlucky job for the crew but they handled it like true professionals. Murphy's Law came knocking in the form of a huge cottonwood that day. The crew worked well into the evening (at least until 8:30pm) for three days, though he had estimated it should probably take one. Instead of cutting corners when things got tricky, they buckled down and did the job right. Dan (or Dave?) was extremely professional and competent throughout the job and in several instances went well above and beyond my expectations with attention to the little details. All in all, when the job was done, I was more than satisfied. He really could have (and probably should have) charged me the $3000 the other guy wanted, but he stuck with the original estimate. During a chat with him afterwards, the owner explained that he owns his own truck, has had the same guys working with him for a very long time and treats them fairly. He doesn't have huge expansion plans and doesn't pay anything for websites or advertising. He is so good that he stays busy only by people spreading the word. He said very simply that he only wants to make a fair living and to do an honest day's work. This man and his crew are the true definition of an honest, old-fashioned and hard-working mentality that I am sad to see so little of these days. I haven't been more pleased with a business or a service of any kind for as long as I can remember. DD Tree Service is down to earth, shockingly affordable and the quality of work and customer service is far above what anyone else out there offers.
Description of Work: Two very large trees and about a dozen smaller ones in my backyard were cut down and removed. The yard is a steep incline and the removal rather difficult, according to the several services that provided estimates.
