the bottom of the ramp had a piece of plate steel for the last 12 inches at a steeper angle than the ramp with anti skid adhesive stuck to it. the anti skid came off in the cold and my mothers friend is convinced that is where he slipped and broke his leg. he spent 12 days in the hospital but didn't tell his insurance co where it happened. i asked mitch to fix the bottom of the ramp and he refused. i replaced the steel with a piece of plywood at the correct angle myself when i went back for a visit. the anti skid came off of the steel the first month in the cold and making it a steeper angle is even dumber. the rest of the ramp was done well but $7000 was too high. with access to a shop a lipless transition at the bottom could have been made out of wood easily, especially for the price.
Description of Work: he built a wheelchair ramp for my mother's trailer for $7000. i live out of state and agreed because i needed it done.

Once Mitch completed the install, he invoiced me for $248.00 due to a return he made to the store to have the manager signoff. Problem is, I sent Mitch the materials he would need immediately following a message he sent saying they "would be completing the store today". This indicates that the store was not completed. Exactly 3 minutes after receiving his email explaining they would complete the store, I sent a response with the store signoff attached. Instead of Mitch explaining that he would be charging a return fee to get the signoff taken care of, which I would have simply told him to not worry about, he made the return and then charged me $100 more than we originally discussed. The problem is I had zero communication with Mitch, he just assumed we would pay whatever invoice he sent in without any approvals. On top of that, he was very aggressive and even returned to the store and REMOVED the installed material, WITHOUT ever communicating to me that he would do so if I refused to pay his full invoice amount for $248.00! Mitch is very unprofessional. I can't speak to his work (considering he removed it without ever consulting with me or compromising on the situation) but I will say he is not pleasant to work with. I would strongly persuade someone to seek different help in the Grand Forks area, it might save you a big headache in the long run!
Description of Work: This was a very simple install we hired Mitch's company to take care of for us. Basically, they were to apply 3D adhesive letters to a fixture in a shoe store. We agreed to a price of $148.00 prior to the install taking place.

Two men came to repair my door. They explained what needed to be done. Said they would get parts needed. The door is heavy and I was told these type of doors tend to slam hard. Now the door slowly and quietly closed. The workers were friendly and respectful. I will definitely use this service for any maintenance need on my home.
Description of Work: Did repair on my storm door. The door was pulling away from the house.

We bought a pre-fab cedar shed from a local home improvement superstore fully intending to put it together ourselves. I ended being far busier at work than I had planned and was simply not able to find any time to get this project started. I called Mitch and explained what we needed and he was there in just a couple of days to begin putting everything together. The cedar shed came with a foundation, but Mitch went through the extra time/steps of making a stronger/more level base foundation using hard packed sand and patio stones - I wasn't expecting that at all, but was quite pleased with how much sturdier it made everything. Mitch was at our place for 4 or 5 hours on the first day and then had to return the next day for an hour or so to finish the shingles on the roof and hang the barn-style doors. It's been a bit more than a year since he finished and this shed has stood up well to several storms and a North Dakota winter. I gave a B in professionalism only because Mitch didn't call before he came over to start working each day. He had told me during our initial phone call when he would be able to start the work, but even still a heads-up call would have been appreciated. He was nothing but professional while working for us - if I could have scored an A- in this category I would have done so.
Description of Work: Mitch assembled a pre-fab cedar shed for us.

I have a large dog and needed a fence installed for my backyard and deck. Mitch came out and asked a few questions, jotted down very few notes and said he would call with estimates and dates when he could come out and do the work. I didn't hear from him for 4 weeks, and when I called I only got excuses. I needed a 6 foot tall chain link fence for a majority of the yard, and also a wood fence attached to my deck as there is no way to fence around it due to concrete in place. He did not ask many questions, and I thought that meant he would ask them as he went along with every thing. He did not - and he was not on site for the construction of the fence at all, just some young guys that did very poor work. The wood fence was supposed to be "staggered panels" to allow some wind to go through as I get a strong North/South wind through my yard, but still close enough together to keep the bunnies/cats/animals in my neighborhood from getting into my yard. Those panels were so far apart the neighbor cat easily walked through them. The gate was constructed 6 feet from when I told him I wanted it. The gate is so heavy that within one week of construction it no longer opens or closes properly and is tearing the hinges out of the supporting posts. The supporting posts and the fence panels were not level, some of which were over an inch lower or higher than others. The chain link fence is not flush with the ground - in one place it is 9 inches, yes 9! from the ground, allowing animals to come and go. At NO time did Mitch or any of his employees call me to ask questions or check that decisions they were making were to my liking. I asked that lattice be installed around the underside of my deck to keep animals out as well - they only did 2 of the 3 sides of the deck that needed it. When I called about fixing the lattice he said I didn't specify that I wanted it like that - so rather than call and ask, they just assumed I didn't want it. When I would call him about issues - i.e. supplies being left all over my lawn and killing the grass, gate in wrong place, panels too far apart, no apparent care about any of the work these kids were doing in my yard, my ruined lawn mower blade that was the result of them leaving stuff all over my lawn - he would get defensive and patronizing.Overall it was a horrible experience and I would not recommend Mitch's "My Handyman Services" to anyone, no matter how desperate you are for work. At the end of the 3 week project (which should have taken a few days but didnt and ended up costing me a TON of labor charges, of course) I have a fence that does not function properly, does not keep animals out of my yard, does not keep my dog in my yard (she can leave through the 9 inch space) and does not look good. Most people are astounded that I paid him a penny...The worst part is, the 72 feet of poorly constructed chain link, and 12 feet of wood fence that looks like a 5th grade woodshop class constructed it, cost me a grand total of $4,420. I feel robbed.
Description of Work: I needed a chain link fence and wood deck fence installed, as well as some lattice put up under my deck. (easy enough, right? WRONG)
