CARPET ONE FLOOR TO CEILING

Our experience with the sales staff and the installation people were significantly different. The sales person was amiable and very encouraging because they seemed to want our business (this was to be a cash deal, with no credit or loan needed). The original estimate we received was for a larger area than we ultimately chose to have tiled; we felt we wanted to see how Carpet One would perform (their original estimate was for $11,000 dollars and seemed reasonable, based on area we wanted to have tiled and other local business estimates for the same job). In the end, the person doing the area measurements incorrectly measured the room by over a foot! This resulted in too little material being ordered/delivered to our home - something not caught by anyone at the sales end of things (the original estimates by the sales person compared to those from the actual estimator measurements prior to material being ordered confirmed the discrepancy). In the end, the 3 day job wound up taking almost a month from start to finish. As a result, the installer told us during the final day of installation that he was short of material and would need to get more and then come back at a later time (about 2 weeks later as it turned out). We called the salesman and complained about their measurement errors and discrepancies - they told us it was not their problem and we should have confirmed their measurements before they put in the order for tile! That was not possible as they did not provide to or offer to share their measurements with us ahead of time. We felt we were paying for their professional services, but what we received was certainly unprofessional and shoddy. The salesman said he was sorry for the error but did not want to make any adjustments to the contract for our inconveniences. A complaint to the manager of the company was essentially ignored, other than a demand for payment (we paid >50% down). If you choose to deal with these people, please be sure to insist on the following: 1. recheck any measurements and estimates provided by their sales people - PRIOR to material being ordered/delivered; 2. insist on a performance penalty clause in the contract - do not trust their word that they will make good on any problems of their own making.
