This is a continuation of the report. Gregg and his helper returned a week before Christmas to do the cleaning and lining of the other house's sewer. The tenant wasn't too happy about short notice (one day) and that the work was to be done so close to Christmas, but agreed to let Gregg work. Gregg did another inspection of the clay sewer line and the cast iron lines under the house. He said he had a recent job where he had lined the clay line to the city sewer, but after three years, the owner found roots infiltrating the cast iron lines under the house. So he had to clean and line those lines, too. For my house (the one with the tenant) Gregg recommended cutting a hole through the basement floor and digging to the cast iron line there to install a "clean out" so that he could install liner in the cast iron piping. With all the work to be done, he decided to postpone the job and come back after the New Year. He came back as promised and spent three days working with his helper to install the clean out, run the "Scorpion" high-speed cutter through the cast iron and clay sewer lines, then pull a liner combination through to the city sewer, inflate the rubber balloon with air and wait 12 hours (overnight) for the liner to cure and finish the job, then pull the balloon out. It was hard work in cold snowy conditions with pick and levers needed at the street manhole about a block from the house to lift the manhole cover and fish out the line for pulling the liner and then retrieving the balloon after curing had completed. I am hoping all the effort pays off. Gregg is a real pro.
Description of Work: Clean cast iron and clay sewer lines of roots and debris, install a clean out for the cast iron under the house then install plastic liner for clay and sewer pipes to the City sewer connection.

We are one house in three along a street that all share one sewer connection to the city sewer. The sewer line is clay, and has "bell and spigot" joints that over the years have tended to pull-apart when tree roots move the line. Then roots infiltrate the line and that means calling a Roto-Rooter or equivalent service about twice a year. The neighbor in the middle could finally take no more, and called Gregg's Reline Services and Gregg Johnson came to our houses and we had a mini-meeting and decided to go-ahead and line the whole sewer house-to-house and out to the city connection. That was March, and in June the job finally got done after several periods of delay because Gregg was called to other, industrial, jobs. I asked Gregg to do another house we own (we have it rented) that also has sewer infiltration problems. Gregg went to the house, inspected the line with a video camera and found roots. Then as at the other job, he ran a high-speed cutter through the line and cleaned it out. It is now October, and Gregg has been back to tell us he hasn't forgotten us, but he has been called all over North Dakota and even to South Dakota to do inspections, cleanings and relinings. He may be a one-man team now that his nephew has decided to go to a technical school, so I think Gregg may be falling behind on his promised work. He is a real professional, though, and if he had more help, or could afford more help, there would probably have been no delays in keeping up with the demand for his services.
Description of Work: Gregg's Reline Services inspects sewers, cleans roots and other obstructions from sewers lines that have been infiltrated by tree roots or soil. Then a plastic resin is pulled through the sewer and air pressure is applied to a rubber bladder inside the liner to press the (as unyet hardened) resin against the inside of the old sewer pipe. At the end of 12 hours, the resin has cured to form a plastic sewer pipe. Hopefully that is the end of the infiltration problem. So far, so good, for these three houses.
