For the last two years I have been building custom houses which demand superb contractors. I?ve needed to find people who have exceptional know-how and can deliver quality workmanship. I have been lucky to have two excellent finish carpenters. Generally, finish carpenters work on the inside of the house doing doors and millwork and installing cabinets. These guys also did my exteriors which involved some very serious, precise details. Robbie and Shannon Bothwell (Bothwell Builders) worked for months on extensive cornices, soffits, barge boards with crown molding, window and door surrounds, custom architraves, and several types of columns, among many other details. The effect of these well-executed details has been spectacular. It is very rare - even on expensive houses - that one finds such fine exteriors. After seeing what kind of work they were able to do on the exterior, I had no worries about the interior. I was pleased, but not surprised, to see that Robbie and Shannon did a great job on custom interior details. These details included interior window casings, door casings, extensive valences, a custom stair screen, fireplace mantles, kitchen cabinets, and some challenging bathroom details, along with lots of other small, fussy details. Robbie and Shannon have also done numerous quality ?handyman? jobs - things which are essential to the making of a custom house but which fall between the phases completed by the main tradespeople. I have often said to Robbie and Shannon that I could not have been able to create houses of this quality had I not had them working for me. And they worked for me very patiently and cheerfully, considering my exacting demands. Given that the homeowner has a clear idea of what they want, supplies well-drawn, precise details, provides quality materials, and has a realistic budget, the Bothwell Builders can deliver a topnotch result at a fair price. I especially liked these guys for their solid North Dakota values of honesty, punctuality, and reliability. And they intensely want to do the work right - whether you are looking over their shoulder or not.
