Jerry White Landscaping

Jerry was one of three professionals from whom we solicited bids to landscape our new home at Lake Gaston, and we could not be happier with the results. From our original meeting when he shared design ideas for the shape of the driveway and recommendations on type of sod and plantings, to his after-installation periodic checks of the irrigation system, he has been a consummate professional. He has been exactly on time for each and every appointment we have had with him (there have been at least six during the course of the project). He responds timely to messages and often answers his phone himself. He stuck exactly to his bid and his timeline, and he remained committed to making the project look right. If he felt something needed changing he communicated early and often with us to get our approval. We highly recommend Jerry White Landscaping.

He has worked for me several times. His services are very good. The workers are very dependable. He is very prompt in getting back at you, but sometimes if he is very busy, he might not be able to come right away because it is a small company. I would recommend him in terms of his quality and price competitiveness.

It was a true pleasure to work with Jerry and his crew. Those of us with homes on Lake Gaston, but are not originally from the area, have learned that contractors and tradesmen just don't feel a need to show up when promised, respond to customer queries, or complete a job before moving on to the next. Jerry was different. He had done great work designing and building aa patio with fire pit for a friend and I called Jerry for an estimate. He responded promptly when I called to discuss the work and then came out at a time of my convenience to walk the ground. He took his time to discuss what may wife and I wanted and thoroughly understand the outcome we wished to achieve and then took measurements. As a typical Lake Gaston owner, we have a second home and travel a lot, so face-to-face meetings are not always the norm. Jerry accommodated our needs. He gave a pretty good estimate of starting my job within 40 days, depending on weather, and then furnished a written estimate. His wife Susan, served as "office manager" and scanned and e-mailed the proposal to me as well as connected me with Jerry by relaying my e-mail messages when Jerry was with his crew on job sites where cell phones didn't work. So communications as to status, material availability, and modifications to the proposal were very friendly as well as timely. He asked for a draw, and I mailed a check a first draw after my neighbor confirmed that pallets of brick pavers and materials had been delivered to my driveway. I didn't make a second draw payment but rather paid in full when the work was finished within 3 days of their starting. While Jerry was not the cheapest estimate, he was comparable. Plus the high quality and appeal of his prior work coupled with the effort to understand what I wanted made me select him. Yes, it took some time to get started on my job. But it was due to persistent rains and not the area's norm of contractors pushing off smaller projects already booked in order to start new but bigger more profitable jobs or of the typical unscheduled delays due to hunting, fishing, taking the wife to the beach, etc. I'm not kidding when I write that Jerry gave me a good estimate of when he would start, amended it realistically due to rains, and then actually came in the week he said he would. Then when they did arrive, they worked my job steadily for 3 days until completed. As for quality and workmanship they were outstanding. There were a couple spots where simple grading and laying a paver base weren't likely withstand the run off without erosion. So Jerry had his crew apply additional gravel and used concrete to ensure those sections would remain intact over time. He had to send a man to Durham to get pavers to match my existing 14 yr old paver paths and they came back with a great match in size and color. Regrettably, I had to buy full pallets so I ended up with 1/3 pallet left over which I'll find some use for later. Their cuts to the bricks were precise. The artistic placement of a curved path and style of connection to existing hard scapes was superb. The irrigation supply pipe between the pump on dock and a hose bib and sprinkler zones on the front of the house broke or separated due to roots someplace under my concrete driveway. The repair required digging holes on either side of the driveway and then boring a new pipe. He made sure to locate the buried electric, propane gas, and telephone lines in advance of the digging and grading. They did a fine job with sprinkler repair, installed a new valve, and then repacked and leveled the holes and restored the landscaping. Unfortunately they forgot the connection to the hose bib, which they promptly and without complaint reopened a hole to create a new hose connection and post. They also asked me for any other small or corrective tasks since they were on-site, done with the contract-specific work and had time left in the day. They completed the two I suggested with the materials I had on site and without extra charge. I was very satisfied with the quality of the work and their unusually high level of responsiveness and punctuality. They cleaned up, washed and swept the new paths, and re-located surplus material to a place of my choosing. Jerry is a good ole boy, who takes pride in his work and in the dedication and skill of his crew--most of whom have been with him for years. He finished with the assurance that his work was guaranteed and he'd come back without charge to ensure an issued were fixed to my satisfaction. We discussed a future project while Jerry was on site and I'll use his crew again.
