I had a great experience with Comfort Master. Mike came out and did all the things I hoped he would- measured the square footage, counted and inspected the windows, went in the attic and under the house and looked at the existing duct work. He used that to determine what size system we needed and then showed us all the options. What was most important though is the fact that I felt like I could trust him. A new heat pump is a large investment. I needed to trust the product I was buying along with the company installing it. The pricing was close to the other estimates we received and since we paid cash, we were able to negotiate the cost down a few hundred dollars. On installation day they showed up on time and got to work. The house?s water pipes blocked the easiest installation route, so they crawled (with the air handler) around the perimeter to get it in place. They then had to take apart the old air handler to get it out. Several other companies estimated cutting these pipes (at an additional cost?), but Comfort Master found a better way. At the end of the day they cleaned everything up and hauled it off. The new system works better than we ever imagined. This was a great all around experience from a company you can trust.

I had been sweltering in my third floor finished attic office when I called Comfort Master. Greg came out to the house, looked at the total area to be cooled and recommended a Trane unit of sufficient capacity to do the job. We paid over $7,000 for the unit and installation and also paid another $2,400 to completely re-duct the system to ensure both areas (one on the 3rd floor, one on the 2nd) would be cooled and heated. Almost immediately, it was apparent that the system could not do the job to cool the third floor space. Over the course of the past few years I have called every year to say it was not doing the job. They sent techs out to go over it, assuring me that it was working fine even though it was not cooling my office, even down to 78 degrees, on warm days. One year, one of the techs told me that the problem was our wall insulation, not the unit, and gave me a card for an insulation contractor. This year, I started calling in the spring. After two or three tech visits, making sure they came when the thermostat was showing a heat differential, more testing, even the tech suggested that the system is not the correct capacity. I have been promised for weeks that someone would call and make it right. I have called back the office and spoken to Sharon several times, but have not gotten any call back from the owner or anyone else that could help. Update: After I posted this, one of the owners and two other very knowledgeable employees came out to my house to reassess the issue and are in the process of trying to get it resolved. They have been helpful so far.

I appreciate this customer's concerns. We have confirmed the equipment was working correctly and have already scheduled an appointment for tomorrow for one of the owners, the sales coordinator and the service manager to do a complete review of what can be done to address the issue of the heat on the third floor when the weather becomes more extreme. We never wish for our customers to experience any frustrations and we are always available to address concerns. Tommy and I are committed to being available to customers and to do the right thing and that has not changed since we began 20 years ago.

Everyone with Comfort Master was friendly and helpful. They guided us through the entire process from selecting the unit which would best suit our needs to setting up the inspection with all the documents necessary for the city. They know what they are doing and nothing was left to chance. After the inspection we have received several follow up calls to ask how the unit is working out for us. To ask if we have any questions and to let us know they are happy to help with any concerns and questions. We could not be happier!

The technicians were to show up Monday morning around 9 AM they arrived 15 minutes early I showed them around at the equipment that was being replaced then they started work. The first thing they did was put plastic down over carpet and throws over the hardwood floors. (very impressed) Removed old upstairs equipment and installed new upstairs over that week did same downstairs etc. installed new humidifier and tested systems for duct leakage. At the end of each day they swept up any mess that was created, they worked from 8:30 to aprox 6:30 daily. It was one of the neatest installations I have seen all ductwork was properly strapped down at least every 15" if not closer. ****I would highly recommend them to anyone.****

One of our home's A/C units stopped working. The breaker was tripped, so we didn't know what was going on, and flipping the breaker didn't fix the problem. Comfort Master was able to come out the same day we called, just before a holiday weekend! Awesome! The technician found a burnt out wire in the unit, which was the problem. He replaced the wire and connectors, the fuses, and tested the refrigerant levels in the visit, and he did it all very quickly and efficiently. We will definitely consider Comfort Master whenever we have HVAC needs in the future!

Our first consultation was with Greg Tysor. I can not say enough about Greg! Greg was punctual, knowledgeable, helpful, always available for questions and truly by the time our systems were installed I felt like Greg was an old friend of the family! The entire team of employees for Comfort Master was ALWAYS on time, neat, organized, polite, thoughtful, hardworking and knowledgeable. Our first system was installed during a downpour but the men showed up on time, worked through the rain, never a complaint or concern from them. Our second system was installed a few weeks later in the extreme heat and once again the men came on time, worked all day without a single complaint. The employees are all VERY polite and pleasant. Someone is always available to answer questions or explain what they were doing and how the systems work. I am also very pleased to say that our first electric bill with just one unit having been replaced was almost $100 less then the bill from the same time period last year. We have our thermostat set three degrees higher then with our old unit and the house is MUCH cooler then with our previous units. While Comfort Master was not the least expensive quote we received after comparing pricing, reading on the units (Consumer Reports), and talking with Greg about their services it was obvious to us that Comfort Master was the best option for replacing the units. I would recommend Comfort Master to any with ANY type of heat/air issues because not only are they knowledgeable but they are a group of honest, hardworking individuals who want you to be happy with their services they provide.

UPDATE: See below as it is relevant. Angelia, one of the owners, emailed me about this review, and said that she felt bad and wanted to give me a free service. I called to get one, as, well, our house was so hot. They sent out a technician, Richard, who took a look and said our filters needed replacing and we needed refridgerant. The service, however, somehow wasn't what they meant by 'free' - apparently maintenance or service was different for what I asked for (which seems pretty maintenancy or servicey to me). The exact wording from her was: "We want you to know that we want your business. The owners would like to offer your first visit for free. Please let me know if you would like to do this. I will be back in the office on Tuesday if you would like to speak with me or you can contact Sharon on Friday or Monday." On me complaining, she said: "The free visit was for maintenance. It will be a complete cooling tune up. I would like to get that on the schedule for you." Now, Richard was very nice, thorough, and one might say did a whole tuneup of my AC. But I suppose that doesn't count as what they were actually offering. Overall this was a mightily disingenuous ploy to get me back on the books, one I will not be taking. From their own provider response, and I quote: Also, I had our customer care representative contact this customer by phone and email that day to offer him the cooling maintenance visit at no charge which is a $239.00 value. Guess what? That's what I wanted. except it ended up costing that much. I called comfortmaster to check out my ac operation because it wasn't cooling efficiently. They were very nice when I wanted to book, took my card information. I wanted a morning appointment. It rained for a few days and they called up to ask if we'd kindly move our appointment to the following week. I called back and someone told me that they couldn't do until Monday because they were just that booked up. When I said I was done using the service, and that it was incredibly disingenuous to leave a message saying they could come out, then say otherwise when I called, the woman responded with "thank you." Hardly what I'd call an apology. The owner, I think, called Angela, then called back 2 minutes later (I had a call with them at 9:34am that lasted 1:15, then was called back 9:37am that lasted 00:52) to say that they had, magically, an appointment available in the afternoon. However, I made an appointment for the morning. I don't just make appointments at times because I want them then for no reason, I have to take my dog to the doctor. The whole point of making an appointment is to have it at a certain time. If I'm paying a vendor, I don't expect to have to move my day around to fit their busy schedule - isn't that the point of making appointments?
Description of Work: They came at a late night on-call to find out what was wrong with our air conditioning.

Thanks for taking the time to review our company. This is how we grow and better serve our current, future, and repeat customers. We absolutely should not have changed the appointment and have taken steps to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future as it is not how we operate. There may have been some miscommunication along the way as well on what would be covered at no charge and we are working on how to better communicate that in the future. If you look at our reviews, you’ll see that this is something quite out of the ordinary but it’s situations like these that make us a stronger company that is better able to serve you. We again offer our sincerest apologies to this member and hope that anyone reading this will understand that our goal is to not only meet, but exceed, every customer’s expectations. We hope you will give us the chance to serve you as well. Fay, Owner – Comfort Master Heating & Air Conditioning

We called Comfort Master on a Friday and scheduled an estimate for the coming Monday. Greg came out to our house exactly on time on Monday when he said he would and did an extremely thorough job inspecting our existing setup and doing a load calculation. We had 3 other estimates before Comfort Master and Greg was the only one that took the time to measure all of our rooms and do a proper load calculation. Greg also was able to tell me about a damper I had on my existing ductwork that I never even knew about after 13 years living in the house! Comfort Master's quote was not the cheapest, but was within a couple hundred dollars of our cheapest quote. Based on the thoroughness of the estimate and the other Angie's List reviews, we decided to go with them. We let them know the next day (Tuesday) and were able to get an installation scheduled for Thursday. They had two installers come out to our house on Thursday right at the time promised. They worked most of the day and finished up in the late afternoon. The job was done very professionally. They installed the AC on a nice concrete pad, wrapped everything well and did a great job sealing everything with mastic. The technician took the time to explain the thermostat and the safety features built into the unit. We did have one issue with the secondary drain overflow detector two days later that was causing our system to shut off periodically. I called Comfort Master on a Sunday morning and a technician was at my house to fix the problem within two hours. He explained and showed me where the problem was and installed a different style overflow detector that was less prone to false alarms. Great service! The next week Comfort Master set up a inspection with the city for us and filed our rebate with our electric company. Everything went very smoothly. Greg came back out to make sure we were satisfied with our system. All-in-all we are very happy that we decided to go with Comfort Master. They did a great job and were very professional at every phase of our dealings with them. I am more than confident that they will stand behind their work and will give them my business in the future. A+ overall.

The work actually done was done well and relatively quickly. However, there was still insulation in the catch pan and the service rep told me it would take him 2 hours to suction it out and that would cost a lot of money for the time of labor. He suggested I go buy a shop vac and do it myself to save money. Therefore, I went and purchased a shop vac and did it myself. It only took me about 10 minutes! I think the service rep just wanted to be finished with the job and leave, and didn't want to bother suctioning out the insulation. For a $165 trip that took less than an hour, I would have expected him to clean out the catch pan since it only took me 10 minutes to do it myself (once I went and bought a shop vac).
Description of Work: Drain tube from catch pan had gotten clogged and was suctioned clear, which was done well.

Service technician came out Saturday for service call and found a hole in burner. He said the repair, depending on cost of part (new burner) would be between $2000 and $3000 dollars but could not be certain until he could order the part. Since I had been having issues with the system over the past two to three years, I inquired about the cost of replacing existing system. He could not give particulars, however, he did contact their Trane salesperson who came out for a visit that day. The salesperson came out promptly and checked existing system, ductwork and sq footage of house, etc. He also inquired about our LP usage with existing system (something that we had not been too pleased with over the years). Of the options presented we immediately like the dual fuel option so we decided on a unit we liked that would be comparable to the one we replaced and the best fit for the sq footage being heated. Since we have a bonus room upstairs we went with zoning option to bring up to code versus another unit for that space. Salesperson also noticed that my dryer duct running from laundry room to outside had broken and said that he would have that fixed also. System would require extra thermostat for zoning and three carbon monoxide detectors. I was told that i would be eligible for a $300 dollar rebate from utilities provider in 6 to 8 weeks and he would handle the paperwork. So, signed agreement so work could move forward. Salesperson also provided two portable window units to help heat the house until the work could be complete (started Tuesday when unit arrived and finished on Wednesday with final inspection on Thursday). Wednesday the supervisor came out when work started and showed where carbon monoxide detectors would go, talked about inspection afterwards, etc. and left card if questions). After work done I inquired with supervisor regarding placement of carbon monoxide detectors because he said they would be place in slightly different location. He said they would pass inspection and they did. After inspection I also inquired why not offer the use of combination of smoke and carbon monoxide detector (something that I would have opted for if had been offered) to minimize installing additional detection devices near existing smoke detectors (informed by inspector that this combo was available and smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 yrs. past due on this). He just mentioned this would require an electrician to wire this (something I would have been ok with). So paid salesperson for installation after inspection. I also inquired if my dryer duct pipe had been repaired as promised. Salesperson told me he would have to check with the installers and get back with me on that. I did not hear back from so I telephoned him two days later for an answer. He said no and it would cost me another $275.00 to cover materials and labor. I told him no thanks, then was told it could be done for $175.00. I telephoned the project supervisor regarding this which I was not told that this would be an additional cost on top of the $12232 agreed upon initially agreed upon. The supervisor never followed up with a return call. A few days later he called me in error about a different estimate for another customer. I inquired again about the dryer duct and he said that he would check with the salesperson on this issue. Again, he never called back. I also requested an itemized breakdown of total cost (parts, labor, etc.) and was told they don't do this because its a contract price that includes everything. A month later I inquired with salesperson regarding the $300 dollar rebate credit from my utilities provider. It was filed mid February and I finally received the rebate. My dryer duct exhaust pipe was finally fixed in March at no additional cost. Based on the timeliness of the repairs and their service recovery effort I would have to rate my customer service experience a B (otherwise it would have been an A). I believe that the owner of the company takes these ratings seriously and don't believe this will be an issue in the future.

I am one of the owners of Comfort Master and am grateful that this customer shared the information so I can have our team make the corrections. We are constantly working on perfect communication and it appears that we still have some areas for improvement. I apologize that we did not handle the customer's concerns promptly regarding the broken dryer vent pipe. Our installation team found the broken vent pipe that was concealed behind insulation when they were beginning to do their installation. I applaud our team for identifying an existing problem the customer did not know about, but we should have handled it very promptly. Our customers place their trust in us when they invest in a new system and it is my goal to make the process easy. We handle the Progress Energy cash rebates submissions for our customers and need to have the customer account number before filing. Sometimes the customer does not have this available at the time of purchase and our office team then reconnects by phone to get the number. We will continue to work to make this process more expedient. Our comfort consultant has already connected to this customer and scheduled to repair the dryer vent pipe at no additional charge. I take very seriously our commitment to our customers and continually strive to exceed their expectations. I appreciate the report and thank this customer for reconnecting to us.

Our 11 year old upstairs heat pump went out and needed extensive repairs so we decided to replace the unit.. Comfort Master was highly recommended to me by a neighbor. I called their office and was contacted promptly by a consultant. The consultant was prompt, courteous and very thorough in explaining the various options for replacement. The work was scheduled and completed as promised. We were very satisfied and impressed with the entire experience from the initial contact, proposal development, installation and follow-up. Based on the positive experience, we decided to sign up with Comfort Master for an annual maintenance plan for both of our heat pump systems.
Description of Work: Replaced a 2.5 ton heat pump.

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide a report on the services we provided. It is our primary goal to take care of our customers. Comfort Master strongly believes that customers who keep their heating and cooling systems routinely serviced win in several ways: extended equipment life, prompt identification of a system problem, and improved system efficiency. Our Comfort Club program is a great way for customers to have peace of mind. Thanks again for the report!

From start to finish, starting with Greg contacting me to advise of the energy savings of buying a newer unit to the end when the loud noise was fixed, it could not have gone any smoother. Everyone at Comfort Master is very customer focused and pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: I had a Trane 12 Seer heat pump unit installed by Comfort Master in 2002 and never had any problems with it. Being that it was 10 years old, it was decided that it needed replacing as freon would be harder to get for that model. When I decided to replace the unit with a more energy efficient Trane15 Seer heat pump unit I also decided to have the duct work redone to a better quality as the original duct work had been here in my condo since 1985. Another reason I decided to go ahead and make the change, was that the financing was great as Comfort Master had a special going on for 0% interest for 60 months. The installation was smooth and efficient. It took the two installers two days to change out the duct work and system and they were neat and cleaned up nicely upon completion. There was a problem with the new unit being exceptionally loud after it was installed as it would drown our the tv or radio when it was running. But Greg, sales consultant with Comfort Master, was most helpful and fixed the problem so that now the unit is nice and quite. The new duct work made a difference also and now more air can get to all the rooms and keep every room a constant temperature. I am most pleased with Comfort Master and the work that was preformed. When I need another unit, I will contact them.

Sales agent was friendly, explained the condition of our units (furnace = 13 years, AC = 20 years old), provided options and gave us time to consider a decision. The work was performed on time by a courteous and efficient crew of two. They covered the entire 'walkway' through our residence with plastic, up the stairs and on the landing to the attic entrance. I have been contacted after completion of the work by phone and mail to check on the proper operation of the new unit, to answer any questions and to ascertain my satisfaction with the work and the performance of the unit. We are very pleased with the workmanship and operation of the replacement HVAC and would recommend Comfort Master to anyone.

The service technician arrived right on time and was very courteous. In fact, after he was done with the work I asked for a quote on a replacement unit, as I'd been told by the last company I used that my AC unit was about to die and the warrranty had expired and the whole thing needed replacement. The technician could have taken the opportunity to try to sell me a new $8k heat pump, but instead he was honest and let me know that my unit was still under warranty and I could expect many more years of service from it. For that reason alone, I'll always call Comfort Master in the future!
Description of Work: My A/C unit (like everyone else's) went out in the middle of a major heat wave. I called Comfort Master to set up an appointment, and although they were booked for several days out, they called me back about fifteen minutes later and said they could squeeze me in before their next appointment. The service tech replaced the large capacitor used to start the motor on the heat pump, which corrected the problem.

Service provider please be more timely in communicating back to customers.
Description of Work: I was very pleased with the service and quality of the work performed by the technicians from Comfort Masters of Zebulon. After I sent them an online request for service to install an extra a/c duct in the upstairs area of my home, a service supervisor JW Pearce, came out, looked over the area and give me an estimate that I believe was fair and a little cheaper than I had anticipated. He explained my options and was very knowledgeable about where the new vent should be located in order to provide maximium effect. Unfortunately afterwards, I didn't hear back from Mr. Pearce in a timely fashion (almost a week passed) about when the installers could come out to perform the work. I had to call and remind him, but after that everything went smoothly and the installers were very timely in arriving and performing the work as quoted. They were very nice and professional while in my home. My wife and I are very pleased with everything, and I would definitely recommend Comfort Masters to family and friends in the Johnston County area.

They were prompt in all communications, showing up on time for each visit. They presented multiple options, and made a complete assessment of my heating and cooling needs, based on measurements and calculations performed during the initial pre-site visit. Presented itemized estimates for all options, including financing and installation schedules. They upgraded my intake ductwork trunkline for better airflow throughput, and installed an in-line surge suppressor to shield from storm power surges (not covered through most warranties). The work was good, and they were good about cleaning up after, and while removing my old unit. The only issue I had was that they had to enlarge the opening through the side of the house, and needed to remove a course of brick. They used hand sledge hammers and chisels to do so, and even though it was all hidden behind the ductwork at the end, I was not pleased that they did not use appropriate cutting tools for making clean cuts where the staggered brick line called for it. I ended up with a broken brick, where I thought they should have used a diamond wheel cutter for a clean cut. I did mention this to them at the time, and then again when I filled out their post-installation survey. To their credit, they responded with a Starbucks gift card and a post card explaining that they were adapting their installation procedures based upon my feedback. In the end, they sold me what I needed and wanted, and it works great. I appreciated their follow-up and follow-through, and their focus on customer satisfaction, and making improvements to address and prevent future problems. I have another unit for the upstairs that i plan to replace next, and I will not hesitate to uses these guys again. They were not the cheapest, but there is a lot to be said for the knowledge that they are very responsive, good at communicating, and do the job right. I feel like I got what I paid for: Prompt service, quality product, and reliability.

Service tech arrived early. They are very punctual and professional. However, the service call...just to show up...was 99 bucks right out of the gate, and the $28 online coupon is for service only, not a diagnostic, which was my case. So beware that the coupon CANNOT be used for a call which does not lead to actual work.
Description of Work: There was no service, only a diagnostic. Service tech simply figured out what was wrong with the heater unit.

We greatly appreciate the feedback. It is always our goal to make sure our customers are properly informed about our charges for service. I rechecked our coupon to make sure that that it clearly states that it is for a service repair. Our diagnostic charge was quoted up front and I remember confirming this. There was a system malfunction diagnosed for which a repair was needed and the coupon would have been applied, however the customer reported having a home warranty company that would replace the part. I am happy to note that we were prompt and professional and were able to provide the customer with a system diagnosis.
