Description of Work: A knowledgeable group of people at this nursery. They always have a good selection of fresh stock and they keep their stock watered and located in the correct sunlight for the plant. You will pay more than the big box garden centers but for certain items they are certainly worth it.

Plants were delivered on time and were all healthy. They were competently installed. Very satisfied overall.
Description of Work: This is absolutely the best nursery I've ever worked with in 45 years of home ownership, and Mark, their man who installs plants for them, is highly competent and a joy to work with. I have many friends who would concur in my opinion. I was upset to read the one "F" review of this business in Angie's list - it's clearly a disgruntled customer who was at best a special case. I urge Angie's List to remove that review, and I urge fellow Wilmingtonians to patronize Transplanted Garden. I'm new to Angie's List, and if that review (and the business's poor resulting rating) is typical of Angie's List, then I won't remain a member for long. Pat Marriott (Wilmington).

Response from TRANSPLANTED GARDEN
I spoke with Mark today. He does vividly remember the customer. He was into the nursery several times, always talking about spending a lot of money on landscaping. Mark does not remember him ever buying anything. The customer tried to get him to stop by his home several times, but it did not work with Mark's schedule. One day when he was in, Mark was going to be in the area. He promised he would be home, but was not there when Mark arrived. Mark set up another meeting with him. Immediately after Mark arrived for the second appointment, the customer, completely unprovoked, started verbally abusing his neighbor and threatening physical violence. Something to do with property lines and the neighbor’s sprinkler system. The neighbor seemed completely blindsided according to Mark. In seeing this, Mark decided this was not a person he was willing to work for and told him so. Mark got into his truck and as he tried to pull out, the customer opened the passenger door of his truck, trying to get him to stay. Mark had his phone in his hand, ready to call 911 if it was necessary. He really didn’t know what to expect from the customer. Mark does not tolerate violence and he was not willing to put up with this man’s temperament. A week later, his wife stopped at the store looking to pick up a plan for the yard. Mark explained to her he had made it clear that he would not work for him and told his wife the same thing. Mark told me that she did not seem surprised. I remembered the story, but made sure that this was the same person, before I responded. Mark remembers him giving him $20 to come out and look at his yard. Which Mark did. The yard had plants, sitting in pots that the customer claimed at the time were going to be trashed by someone else, and so he took them. He had made claims that he was going to spend 2-3 thousand dollars he never purchased anything that Mark remembers. If anyone’s time was wasted, it was Mark’s. He went out there twice. The first time, was a no show, even though he promised he would be there. The second time, he starts to pick a fight with his neighbor in front of Mark, immediately after his arrival. There was no deal, there was no contract. No plan was ever drawn up. He was never “hired”. Work never “started” because the customer is not the kind of person anyone would want to work for, and Mark told him that. No, you don’t have to like everyone you work for, but you shouldn’t have to fear them. If the customer would like his $20 back, Mark would be more than willing to give it back to him. He has/had Mark’s phone number. He knows where we are. This goes back almost 2 months. If he had a problem with what had happened, that was justified, we would have been more than happy to listen to his complaint. I would sincerely hope that this post comes down off of your site. We have been voted “Best Garden Center” by the readers of a local magazine the last two years running. We have been in business for 13+ years now, and this is not the kind of “notoriety” we are used to receiving. I do not blame Mark for refusing the job. This man apparently has some issues. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to this complaint. Especially as I do not feel that it is at all warranted.
