I had Michael & Son Services perform a routine maintenance on the HVAC system for a rental property that I own. I wanted to have the system checked to avoid any emergency situations that would negatively impact the renters' experience. The technician said that the unit was working properly and AC refrigeration levels looked good. 4 days later, shortly after a renter checked in, the unit was not cooling the house at all. The temperature inside the house at night never went below 80 degrees. I called Michael & Sons to have them come back, now under an emergency situation, and they said it would be days before they would be able to look at the unit again. Being we had renters still at the property, I had to call another HVAC company, who said refrigeration levels were extremely low and there had been a leak, only 4 days after Michael and Sons said the unit looked good. After having the other HVAC company fix the unit because Michael and Sons wouldn't respond in a timely manner, I requested reimbursement from Michael and Sons for the repairs and lost rental income, as it was quite likely the leak was caused by the Michael and Sons technician. After being strung along by the GM at Michael and Sons Wilmington NC office for well over a month who said he was looking into the situation, Michael and Sons refused to own up to the error caused by their technician, causing me over $2,000 in repair costs and lost income. USE CAUTION WHEN HAVING MICHAEL AND SONS PERFORM ANY WORK ON YOUR PROPERTY.

It was fair. They were too busy at that time for other work and the weather as well but the communication was good, they would send me email. They were pretty good with the service. There was just one mistake, they found a wrong material at the generator, it was there for a year. They took care of it right away.

The installers did a great job. Professional, neat. clean. Cleaned up after themselves each day. Got both units installed and running the first day and completed install (house shroud, etc. The shroud had to be made at their shop). County inspector has some minor issues and thet crew responded quickly and took care of them.
Description of Work: Replace both A/C and heat units for my home.

The technician arrived on time. In looking at the system and seeing the error code indicated, he did not know what it meant. He checked several things and offered multiple theories but did not know how to fix it. The ONLY good thing that came out of the visit is he did tell me who to call to check the system. Other than that, it was a waste of time and money. I did call his recommendation. They came, checked the system, figured out the problem and fixed the system.
Description of Work: I needed someone to repair my geothermal heating system. I was specific in asking that they send someone qualified to work on that make and type of system. I was assured they would send a qualified person.

The technician had trouble leaving WILM to travel to the job site due to tornado winds. He was a little late. The job took longer than expected. He had to return two days later and worked to 11 pm at night to get the unit installed. Wore list;e booties in the house. Did not uninstall the old unit until he could install the new unit. Unit appears to work OK. Had problems elsewhere in the house plumbing and cannot pass final judgement until the other problems are fixed.
Description of Work: Install a tankless hot water heater.

When I called Michael and Son's they sent someone out the next day ( Nickolas). He gave us an estimate on the work and set up a time to come and do it. 1 week later I called to see what the problem was and was told they had submitted the permit wrong. How you mess this up I don't know. so They scheduled another 4 hour appt. Nick came out and installed the pole but he forgot to ground it forgot the breaker and Outlet and it was a Temporary Pole ( which was the wrong one). Nick called the inspector out and of course they failed the pole, so I called and set up another 4 hour window appt. I waited on that day , which was now past 2 weeks since he started work only to be sitting 5 hours and having to call the office to get someone out was another problem. Later that day a HVAC guy from Michael and Sons shows up which of course I didn't need. So again I go back and forth between the offices - Nick is from the regional office in Raleigh and The main office is in Richmond, VA. Don't be fooled into thinking they are a local company. They are not. Now 3 weeks I finally get someone to send nick back out again and he personally assures me he will have it right today. He switches the poles and hooks it up and I think all is well and I can get an inspection. I get a call from the inspector the next day. Guess what it didn't pass. So here I go again. He did get back out and put the final part on and it did pass inspection this week. It only took 4 weeks to get 4 hours worth of work done. Initially we called for 2 parts - 1 was to put the pole in and the other was to connect it to they house. after having a problem with everything ( which was all on the company) - they decided they weren't going to do the second part, so 4 weeks and we are still without elecricity. I have never in my life seen so much confusion in a company and such a unprofessional result. Oh and I forgot to mention that they almost didn't pass the inspection because the County was having an issue with Michael and Son's. The county wouldn't go into any detail about this. This is just our experience, you may have better luck. Also read the fine print on the written estimate you are given, it will give you second thoughts.

Jason Holleman went beyond and above what we would of ever expected to make sure we were satisfied and explained the situation and what it took to fix the over flow. Jason explained his background in plumbing which showed in his service and we knew then that we would get the problem taken care of. I highly recommend Jason and will pass the work around.

Three other companies came to try and fix the problem, made some minor repairs but could never fix the actual problem. Glen from Michael and Son came and diagnosed the problem and repaired the unit within 24 hrs. Very professional and will use again!

Friendly, great communicators, excellent customer service, punctual.... This is the best company I've ever used for electrical work! I'm also do plumbing and heating and air conditioning. I'm going to use them for those services, too!

NOTHING--sent them away because they were too expensive. See above. Very expensive, not on time and did not call to tell me the time would be changed. I told the girl on the phone when I made the appointment I had found them on Angie's List.
Description of Work: NOTHING I called for an appointment and was told I could have someone there at 8:00 am. At 8:45 no one had come and I called. I was told they had "double booked" that time slot....and they would have someone there at 10:00. Since I had planned my day around this, I asked them to be sure someone would be here then. They said they would. The service man came at 10:00 but for some reason did not come inside for 5 minutes or more. When he came in, I told him I had a wall light switch that would need replacing. He said that wouldn't take long. He went to the truck to get it but it took him at least 10 minutes before he came back in. He told me that it would be $159 to replace the switch. I dropped my teeth and said then he needed to leave because I was not paying that. I told him the reason I had called them was because they were on Angies List. "Oh, well they didn't tell me you were on Angie's List." He went back to the truck to talk to his boss, came back and said it would be $99. I told him I was not going to do it but I would pay the $29 for the service call. They did nothing right except have a polite service man. I will NOT EVER use them again. I was going to have them give me an estimate for another job but will NOT. You would've thought they would have the courtesy to call me that morning and tell me my time had changed, especially since I specifically asked for that time.
