Called to make an appointment for a technician to come out, expecting to wait a few days. They scheduled me for the next morning, called to confirm the time, showed up on time, located the problem and conducted the repair. The technician was knowledgeable, professional, and pleasant. I couldn't ask for a better experience.

Description of Work: Charged $80 to diagnose the problem with our dryer, but did not actually fix anything... Told me it would cost a minimum of an additional $215 to fix the dryer, with the parts costing at least $135... I bought a new heating element myself online for $27 and replaced it in a couple of hours...and now the dryer is working fine... Even though, I don't like to play Mr. Fix-it, I should have known that the best (and cheapest) way to get something fixed is to do it myself...

I would use them again.
Description of Work: We ordered a new dual-fual range and when it arrived Monday it was non-op. Our supplier called Island Repair to take a look at it and they came the next day...on time...and were very professional. The appliance could not be fixed, but these guys knew what they were doing and they were sensitive to taking care of our floors while moving the range nd left a detailed write-up so we could work with our supplier to arrange for a new range.

I have a 2 year old Samsung washing machine that started leaking. I called Lowes and they sent over Island Appliance Repair. It took one day to schedule the appointment, so that wasn't bad. He diagnosed the issue rather quickly and stated I needed a new pump. He had my model # and serial # and called his office and they do not stock this item. It would take about 10 days to come in. Good news, it was here in 5 days. The repair man showed up today to fix the machine. After 45 minutes, he states that he has the wrong part. He said Samsung slightly changed the part for this particular machine. Isn't that why you took/used my model # and Serial #??? To make sure the right parts are ordered. So now, I have to wait another 10 days for this part to be ordered and was informed this part is $85 more. The tech blamed Samsung, but it was clearly an error on the Island Appliance side. Also, whoever called me last weekend to schedule today's appointment, stated that the repair man would call me 30 minutes before coming, as I requested. He did not and just showed up as I needed to leave. I ended up having a friend run my errand so I could stay home, only to be disappointed. It's bad enough when a dishwasher breaks, but you can always wash the dishes by hand. Not to have a washing machine for 3 weeks is a totally different story. In the very least, I thought Island Appliance should have discounted their repair man fee. JULY 25, 2014: ISLAND APPLIANCE CALLED ME 2 DAYS AGO TO SCHEDULE MY WASHING MACHINE REPAIR FOR TODAY. I CANCELLED MY MORNING APPOINTMENTS TO BE HOME BETWEEN 10AM-12PM. AT 8:30AM THIS MORNING, THEY CALLED ME TO SAY THE PART NEVER CAME IN. THEN WHY WAS I SCHEDULED FOR TODAY? I FEEL THE OFFICE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND I STILL DO NOT HAVE A WORKING WASHING MACHINE FOR WEEKS.

I made calls to a list of appliance repair shops as soon as I realized our fridge was not working. Island Appliance Repair was the only place that would even consider working us into their schedule on such short notice. Cory arrived wearing a nice, friendly smile and went right to work. He was efficient and thorough and explained the problems he found. Parts had to be ordered so we were without our fridge for several days. Island Appliance Repair called us with updates and once the parts were in they scheduled Cory to come out promptly to install them. We were highly impressed with the company and of course with Cory. We would definitely recommend them to our friends and family.

I called this company because they were highly recommended by a trusted friend. I called and left a message on their answering machine over Memorial Day weekend. I didn't expect to hear from anybody until Tuesday, but I got a call on Monday (a holiday) to schedule my appointment for the following day. Yay! Cory, the technician, showed up within the 2-3 hour window I was given and even called 15 minutes before he arrived. He was friendly. I knew what the problem with my dryer was so he didn't need to diagnose the problem at first, he just had to fish out a toothbrush that got sucked in to the lint trap area. (We can thank my toddler for that one.) When he pulled out the dryer from the wall he said he had never seen a dryer with a water line attached to it before. Red flag #1. Steam dryers are not a new thing anymore, I worried that he had never worked on one before. He was able to take the dryer apart, find and remove the toothbrush, and inform me that the toothbrush broke one of the fan blades. I asked if that was a problem and if we need to replace the fan. He assured me that it was fine and if it was his dryer he would just leave it as is. He completely reassembled the dryer and then turned it on so make sure it worked. It made a loud noise. He disassembled the dryer again and couldn't diagnose the problem. He went out to his work van to call his supervisor. (He actually disappeared out to his work van several times for 5-10 minutes at a time.) The supervisor decided over the phone and without seeing the problem that the fan blade was to blame. The very same one I had just been assured by the technician was completely fine. Red flag #2. So we had to order the part. The technician looked it up and told me the part only costs $21, but after a trip out to his van, the price magically jumped to $28 and I was going to have to pay an additional $90 to have him come out again and fix it once the part came in. What could I do? Its not like I could fix it myself. I told him to go ahead and order the part. When I went to pay for the day's work I was surprised that the labor cost had gone from $45 to $60. The technician explained that it was because he had to stay a long time. Red flag #3. He only had to stay a long time because he didn't think to check that the dryer was working properly before he completely reassembled it. Then he spent a long while on the phone trying to figure it out with his supervisor. Its not my fault he's inexperienced and I don't feel I should have to pay extra for that. The part arrived and Cory was back to fix my dryer on Thursday. Pretty quick turn around, so I was happy for that. The repair however too for-ev-er! He was at my house for well over two hours. First, he didn't have the right size ratchet and had to borrow my husbands, then even after he put the fan in it continued to make noise. Red flags #4 and #5. Another call to the supervisor later and he seems to have it in working order. I was disappointed with the inexperience and lack of confidence in our repair technician. This took way too much time and cost more than I feel is fair. I will likely not be using this company for future appliance repairs.

overall it was fine although a little frustrating concerning the part number.
Description of Work: The repairman completed the repair but at first thought that the incorrect part had been ordered. After looking further at the description and part number he then realized that he did have the correct part and then made the repair. Good job overall but I wasn't impressed with the communication between the parts supplier and the repairman.

I would have liked to have had them offer to come back on a re-visit or to at least look at the cooling problem when they returned to install the Dispenser Control Panel but they said they couldn't do that without paying for it themselves. I would have thought it would have been a nice customer courtesy outreach if they had looked at it while the refrigerator was on. Oh well, I guess I understand the issued of dealing with a warranty contract. It would have been nice if the repair technician wouldn't mentioned the indicator light voltage issue as a possibility when I showed him the GE bulbs that I had bought.
Description of Work: It should be noted that the cost of this repair was borne by our Home Buyers Warranty and the amount shown was the copay required by that warranty. We had two problems with our GE Refrigerator: one was the cooling level which seemed to be inconsistant and froze some food, even at the lowest setting; the other was the ice/water dispenser panel which had some cracking at the wear points for the buttons and the other was the indicator lignt which didn't seem to be fucncting, even with a new bulb. They replaced the dispenser control panel and the light still didn't work but I discovered via our local Lowes Hardware store that these indicator bulbs can be either 120v or 12v. The GE brand replacement bulbs that I had originally gotten doesn't even tell you which voltage they are. The Owners Manual doesn't mention which voltage they are, just the model number of the bulb (which no one carries by that number locally, even the GE brand bulbs). The cooling problem is still a minor mystery. Maybe GE Profife just doesn't control temp very well, or maybe there is still something wrong with the thermostat or main control panel. Since the Refrigerator had somehow kicked over to "Off" from it's temp setting at "1" the repair tech was unable to diagnose it he said. So we're just living with it until it gets bad enough to spring for another $100 co-pay.

Description of Work: 5+ month old refrigerator stopped worked. WIthin 5 days of replacing condenser, stopped again. Fred the repair person is surly and was not at all helpful with pursuing warranty replacement and told me to deal with the manufacturer. It was extremely difficult even getting a repair report from him for proof with the manufacturer who scheduled another authorized contractor to assess the situation. The 2nd opinion deemed it not repairable, reported such to the manufacturer and advised me to get Lowe's (the seller) involved immediately. I will most definitely use Appliance Services again.
