DB Concrete did an excellent job from start to finish. The difference between DB Concrete and the other firms I contacted was immediately apparent when the owner (Marty Stankus) came out to do the estimate. The other companies either phoned it in without ever coming to the site or sent an estimator. Marty spent the time to explain how his approach would be the best solution to our problem and identified a few areas of repair I had not noticed. His solution included excavating down 4 inches in the soft sand/root mass that had caused my sidewalk to sag and crack and installing a compacted 4 inch stone base with rebar to stiffen the final installation of 4 inches of new concrete. Unlike many contractors who fail to communicate schedule, Marty provided updates on the work date without prompting (the original day had to be moved once as a result of weather). Also, unlike the concrete contractor who did my pool deck, I never felt my job was pushed back as a result of more lucrative work. Marty appears to work on a first in, first out ethic - refreshing! Unlike some companies where the owner restricts their involvement to estimating and periodic job site supervision, Marty was present and actively participating in the work. As you can imagine, when the owner is present and setting the example, the crew picks up the pace and spends the time to do it right. Every job has unknowns and mine was no exception. Some of the tree roots were 6 inches thick! In addition, instead of the existing concrete being the standard 4 inches, there were segments pushing past 7 inches. Instead of complaining or asking for an additional fee to deal with these discoveries, Marty adjusted and did the job. Despite the unexpected additional work, Marty finished the job in about 3 days (including a weather delay for the concrete pour). He removed all the debris and left the job site clean and ready for me to install new sod adjacent to the walk. The sidewalk looks great. The brush finish is consistent, the curves smooth and the flares even. Great experience with a caring contractor!
