Our A/C wasn’t working, so one of their techs came out about a week ago. He gave us a laundry list of all sorts of things that were wrong with our unit. He said that we could repair it but since the unit is in such rough shape, he didn’t know how long the repairs would last before our unit went out again. The lowest we got quoted to fix all these “problems” was $3400. We got a second opinion from a different company who said that the only thing wrong with our unit was the compressor. He got our A/C up and running within 15 minutes. He said our unit is in good shape but it could use a really good maintenance cleaning. I asked this man if there were any major problems with our unit like ARS told us there was, and he said that our pan could use a good cleaning but other than that our unit was in great shape. This different company also knew we were in a rough patch financially and we were able to get our A/C up and running for $250 instead of the outrageous quotes we got from ARS. I understand that unfortunately companies like ARS just like to scam people to get more money but I’m extremely disappointed in the straight lies we were told that were wrong with our unit. I would never recommend ARS to anyone in North Carolina. ARS I hope you learn from your mistakes and stop trying to scam people.

Wonderful! Michael Hall was right on time and went straight to the job. He showed us picters of our gauges and how well our unit was working. He told us about the UV Bulb and since we have just gone through two bouts of allergy's we decided to have one installed. As luck would have it, he had one on the truck and installed it. Hopefully that will help clean our inside air. We would like to see Michael as our service technican every time. He was very knowledgeable and personable. He knows what he is doing!!

Scheduled between 11:00-2:00 but never arrived & never called. 2:15 when I phoned, I was told I was next on the service list and the service person had been at the same house since 9:30am. They were unable to say when they would arrive. After complaining "not acceptable service," I was told someone was on the way. After an hour & no one has come. Do not waste your timing dealing with this outfit.

May 22nd paid in advance for a service contract on 3 air units -was told someone would contact me to schedule -never heard from anyone even though paid in full 2 weeks ago contacted company to schedule service -confirmed for June 25th between 1pm-6pm Took the day off -waited all day -waited until after 6 pm to contact -Person I talked to said that I was on the schedule and someone from dispatch would contact me letting me know when they would be here today. Got a call from the local company telling me I was not on the schedule and he 1st said that he would not have someone out and that he would not be able to refund my money. I told him we had service contracts with both my offices as well as home and would not therefore be using them in the future . Had to contact Corporate customer service and will be contacting O'Brien for the service ARS was to do--Had ARS install the original equipment in my house and also replace both units. Guess they really don't know what customer service is and have enough business to keep them afloat.

They gave me an estimate of $2000 for a job that didn't even need to be done at that time. That was just dishonest.

I didn't like them at all. I didn't think they did a good job plus they were constantly trying to sell you something else. Their service guys, I think, get a lot of pressure to sell you all these different types of services. One guy said, "would you sign this to say that I covered all these things with you?" I think the boss gives them heck about it. They were a little bit higher than the company I use now, but that's not reason that I switched, I just didn't think they did that good of a job. I had a service contract, so they came when they were supposed to. Usually, I would call and make an appointment and they would come when they had an appointment. It seemed like every time they would come, it would be a different person.

The work was done satisfactorily. Their cost was a bit higher than what I pay for the servicing I have done by another company on another house I have on Topsail Island . My main concern is that they always tried to sell me some added service or equipment that I really did not need or want.

The got here early that morning and by late afternoon, everything was working like a charm. They made sure everything was working correctly before they left. They cleaned up behind themselves. We were very pleased with the job they did.

Awful! Started on 6/30/16 & did not finish until 7/22/16. Still has to be inspected by the city. Poor or lack of communication. Bunch of amateurs. They destroyed the 4 year old door & frame to the crawl space under my house claiming it was "rotten" and tried replacing it with unpainted uneven boards nailed together leaning against the foundation. Said would be back in 1-2 days, 7 days later still had not seen or heard from them, etc etc etc

My upstairs a/c unit recently quit working, on one the hottest weekends of the year so far. Used Angie's List to find a highly ranked repair service that was available during the weekend and found ARS. Took several calls but they finally sent someone out. Nice guy, spent an hour testing the system and then told me the unit (3 ton, split system) could not be repaired. Within 30 minutes, ARS then sent another person to my house to give me an estimate on a new unit - $7700. I declined, stating that I wanted to get quotes from other companies. The next day I had another company test my system and they repaired it for $250! It has been working great ever since. I feel that ARS was trying to scam me, on a very hot day, into buying a new unit which I did not need and which was very overpriced.

the man changed the regulator in my HVAC system in 10 minutes time and I found out from a friend who does this for a living that the part was $15 ...I was being charged almost $500 for this call. I had a coupon for $99 off the call....so now it was down to $370.00 When I found out the part was $15 i called the manager and he asked me what I thought I should be paying and I told him no more than $150.00 TOPS....that way I was still paying for a service call and a price hike of $35 profit on the part that was $15...HE told me he couldn't do that and after some bargaining back and forth I ended p paying $175......that kind of price gouging is UNSCRUPULOUS!

Kris was our service tech and at first glance appeared to be very young for the job. Boy was I wrong, Kris is young; but, he knows his HVAC field. I was and am still impressed with his knowledge and ability to bring complicated issues down to terms someone who is not versed in the HVAC world can understand. He took the time to explain everything to me, from start to finish. When I ask him to take a look at another issue, he did not hesitate and discovered an issues with my duct work. Again, very knowledgeable and helpful explaining the next steps to getting an estimate for the repair. I am sure he will be a Rock STAR in his field for many years to come. It turned out to be fine. I am very happy with their service. They are relatively good most of the time. I like that they don’t sell me things that I don’t want, they are pretty honest about what they do and they are punctual with appointments. There is only one worker who comes to do the work and he usually does the job in half an hour unless there is a problem where he needs to resolve the issue. I will tell other that I am very satisfied with the service, the work they do is good and they respond quickly to emergency calls.
Description of Work: ARS Wilmington performed services for me. They do a preventive maintenance for me and the last time was for a Spring preventive service call. They check my HVAC system. They clean the system, change the filters, check the electrical and make sure that it is working well. I have probably been using them for the last 25 years.

I've had very good experiences with them. The two times I've had a problem, they came right out, early the next day and got me going right away. I've recommended them to others.
Description of Work: I have a yearly contract with them. They checked my gas heater out. They checked the burner and made sure it ignited and everything. I pay about $130 annually and they come out for the fall and spring check-ups.

The whole experience was a disaster! It took almost 2 weeks to complete the process and I had to call them back numerous times over the course of the nest 6 months. One time there were about 2 dozen screws in the bottom of my new HVAC unit that had maybe fallen in (sitting loose on top and rolled in maybe) and they were just left there and would have remained had I not called them back. One time I noticed no air coming in from one of my vents in the house. They had not replaced one of the ducts and connected it to the unit. Another time the entire unit started separating from the house and they had to come and redo the section that connects the HVAC unit to the house and told me the first one was the wrong size. Then the new thermostat they installed would not correctly register the temperature and they had to come back and rewire the new on to the outside unit telling me that during the installation of the new unit the old wiring was used. during this visit my new thermostat was de-programmed and I could no longer set a schedule. I had to call back again and they came and reprogrammed it. AND NOW>>>> my unit continues to run on auxiliary heat if I set the heat any higher than 67 degrees. Also, when talking to a neighbor who had a new HVAC unit put in and new duct work, they told me that a moister barrier was laid down under their house at no extra charge. This was not even an option for me and I wish I had known about having this done because I would have done before all the duct work was replaced.

work was begun on a Friday and was rushed to finish- around 9pm the contractors left saying they would come back the next day to finish up and explain everything and go over how the unit work. That never happened. To this day the humidity is still ALWAYS above 60%, it has not helped the humidity levels at all in the house. Most the time we cannot even see out the windows from condensation, the doors are impossible to open, and the house has a damp muggy feeling. There has also been mold starting to grow on the registers. I have contacted the company dozens of times only to be told there was nothing else to be done. They refused to take the equipment back or offer a refund even though there was a 100% money back guaranteed The cost was 5300.00 dollar
Description of Work: After installing new HVAC units for both floors the humidity levels became unbearable. We were advised to install whole house dehumidifiers and seal the crawl space as the only option to deal with the new humidity issues that occurred flooring their installation of the HVAC systems

Although the estimate was in the same ballpark as others, we felt the equipment and potential installation might not be at the same level of quality as from other vendors/contractors we interviewed. It?s hard to know if that was a correct assessment. We had to deal with the failure of 2 HVAC systems within 3 weeks. We knew nothing almost about HVAC at the start. The web is an excellent source of relevant education, though there?s plenty of questionable advice out there (as with any other topic). Not into doing your research? Expect to get fleeced. We had estimates that varied by as much as 2-fold in cost. If you?re not on your game, contractors will sell you just about anything. Some expenses of thousands of dollars may net just a few dozen dollars in savings for just a few months out of the year. It?s typical to have estimates padded with replacement of perfectly good parts, unnecessary supplies, and accessories add substantially to the bottom line. Really want to get fleeced, if the breakdown occurs during extreme weather (hot or cold), let the vendor know you want it fixed ASAP. We had the opportunity to cope with part of the house sweltering and another part relatively comfortable. With the two breakdowns back to back, it got old but it helped us save thousands of dollars; upwards of $8,000 for the two installations if we only count legitimate estimates. Takes all the estimates and we saved over $12,000. We can?t be certain we have chosen the most durable equipment; that kind of data seems completely unavailable. There is enough information out there to learn which equipment is harder to repair. Remember that labor costs are a BIG component of HVAC work. If you have to buy a specially made, hard to find capacitor and it takes a rocket scientist working with a trained mouse to get it into a tiny space, you?re looking at several hundred dollars for what might cost less than a hundred dollars to do in a well designed product. AND, watch those servicemen. wait until they finish the entire review of your system and layout what it will cost to fix it. We payed one guy over $100 to fix something marginal on our air handler only to find out, when he went outside, that he suspected all along the compressor was likely the problem and would require replacement. On the whole, we benefitted by?hovering? over the repair and installation technicians. In the course of pleasant conversation, we learned tons about our systems as well as what else was out there on the market. These guys work in blistering heat, freezing cold, spaces so small and unpleasant no one should have to go there, and most people hate them because they?re associated with high expenses they do not understand (not the technicians fault). Most of these guys will appreciate if you show that you?ve made some effort to learn about their trade. They?re the first to tell you it isn?t rocket science, but these guys typically know a lot and are grateful for an opportunity to shine rather than be put down. Really, it?s a win-win for everybody. You save money and get a good education and they get a well-deserved ego boost.

From the initial contact the ARS crew was great. George sized the system and recommended a solution to the humidity problem that had plagued my home for three years. He patiently answered the many questions concerning the system and its installation that I peppered him with and provided a cost effective solution to the problem. No over selling or pressure. The swift installation, the very next day, went smooth even in the stifling attic heat. Dan, Mike, and Raul were professional, prompt and neat throughout the installation process. I came away with not only a nicely installed Heat Pump system, but knowledgeable about its operation and function. I solicited seven proposals in this process and I would happily recommend ARS Wilmington to all. Thanks.

They explained everything thoroughly and provided, through Home Depot, excellent financing. They showed up on time and had all work was done the same day. They nonintrusive as possible and were very friendly. I would use them again and recommended them to others as well. 7/5/14 I must update my report on their work, unfortunately not for the better. They did well but then dropped the ball on my inspection. After three weeks, I called and they had no idea I had never been set up for inspection. They set me up for inspection but no one showed, after waiting all day I called. I was told they did not have me on list for inspection and they would have to call me back. They then called and said they did have me on list for inspection, she had simply looked at wrong day. It was late in day and I told them I would wait a bit longer. Here I am a week later and they have yet to call me back to ask about inspection. Good work but terrible follow through. Here I am a month later waiting for inspection.

It is a good unit, but SEER 13 does not qualify for a tax deduction, which sales rep failed to point out( must be SEER 15 at least). Also this new heat pump does not keep the house as warm ( we have to set on 70 rather than 68 with the older one). Not sure yet if we will have significant savings on the power usage. We also left a message regarding the heat pump installation and the lack of warmth, but never recd a response.
