B & B ROOFING

I got B&B's name and number from a friend who is a contractor. I called Tony and we scheduled an appointment for him to come by and inspect the job. He then showed up on time, looked at the work, and came up with an estimate for labor on the spot. It seemed reasonable so we agreed to it and scheduled the work. I already had put on the roof decking and tar paper, so Tony's crew was hired to put on the drip edge and shingles. The roof was fairly steep at 10/12 and it had a dormer on the front. I supplied all materials. About a week later Tony's crew came out (2 guys) and put on the shingles. They made quick work of it, and the whole thing took about 5 hours, including cleanup. I had a pile of other construction debris so they just rounded up the waste and tossed it on the pile. The work quality was good on the shingles, but I was really unimpressed with how they did the drip edge. It could have been made much more attractive with minimal effort, but I felt like they just slopped it on and it looked sloppy when finished. When Tony came by to pick them up, he mentioned that when I was ready to cut a hole in the roof to run the vent for the plumbing he would come by and put on the vent pipe flashing/seal. He made a big deal about coming back and doing that for no charge, so I said okay. Well, it took a couple of months before I was ready for him to come back and put on the flashing, and when I called him he said he'd be out the next day. He never showed up or called. I called him back a couple days later and he had some excuse and that he would come out. I said fine, and I told him I'd really like to know if he was actually going to show up because I'd do it myself if I had too, but that I was calling because he had more experience doing it and had made such a big deal about it. I told him if he wasn't going to come by to just tell me so I could know and proceed with the project. He was like "no, no, I'll come by......yes sir, yes sir....." and he never called or showed up so I ended up doing it myself. I probably would have given him a chance in the future to do more roofing work (with me doing my own drip edge), but the thing with the vent flashing really made me mad. Because of that I wouldn't call him again or recommend him to someone else.

My husband contacted Mr. Brown, and he provided an estimate. Mr. Brown followed up with my husband a few weeks later. After our refinance went through, my husband requested Mr. Brown complete the work. He scheduled the job about two weeks out. He called around 7:30am the day he began the work to advise the shingles were on the way to our house. The roofing (except for the chimney flashing) was completed in one day due to impending rain and our simple roof. However, the clean up took two to three days after the roof was done. Mr. Brown came back the next day to finish the chimney work and remove the shingles as well collect the final payment. Then the following day or two days later a crew came by to haul off the gutters and pick up the trash in the yard. The clean up crew left shingle grit on the back porch, and I found a few cigarette butts and cellophanes in the yard. My husband ran across a couple of nails, which is to be expected, but the other litter is not acceptable.
