Affordable Kitchen Makeover

I was speaking to the sales rep, Lisa for the company. Had an original consultation with the sales rep at my home in Charlotte and an estimate was provided with the company letterhead that listed the company name as 'The Kitchen Cure'. Two months later I called to schedule a complete kitchen remodel using thier services as the sales rep said that they had an enormous selection and the after researching I determined that the price would barely cover retail cost if decent quality materials were used. I assumed they were getting a volume discount or something. I was unable to find any information on a company called 'The Kitchen Cure'...looked high and wide on the internet to find reviews, ratings, complaints or testimonials on 'The Kitchen Cure', including the website provided on the estimate, www.TheKitchenCure.com to no avail. It redirected me to a company called 'Affordable Kitchen Makeovers'. Angie's List has the company listed as Affordable Kitchen Makeover. The ommission of the 's' in the name might be a minor detail, but dealing with contracts...it might be something else, who knows. .... This raised 'red flags' in my mind as contractors often switch names because of shotty work, unscrupulous behaviors or a host of other reasons which leave clients with no form of recourse. Given the fact that they requested half of the project money up front (which I didn't have a problem with) I wanted to make sure I was dealing with a legitimate business that wouldn't take my cash and run. Moving right along...I Googled their address. On the quote I have it shows the same street address in Waxhaw, NC. The address they provided on Angie's list is Marvin, NC. Yet another 'Red Flag'. Angie's list is a regional service so to get a report outside the metro area requires a different type of access. (I'll add here that I was able to chat with someone from Angie's list that provided me the report easily). The report showed nothing good or bad, no reviews. The Google search shows that the address is Waxhaw and it is a private residence, and a simple GIS search shows that the sales rep and her husband have stayed there for some time. That's perfectly fine and I support small businesses, good for them. At any rate we scheduled an appointment one week later. The sales rep was a no show. Yup...I took the time off and was at my house early and the salesrep was a no-show. After 45 minutes of waiting, I called and she said oops...she had it scheduled for the next day 9/28. On 9/28 I was there...the sales rep was not, AGAIN! WOW...My time obviously held little value to thier enterprise. That was it for me, I went with another company that day. It get's even better...I mistakenly called a number that had called me from a Palm Beach Florida area code less than an hour before the second appointment I had scheduled with the sales rep (that she did not show up to). I tried to call the number back immediately, three times within 5 minutes. No answer. I mistakenly called the number at 4:45pm and guess who picks up, the sales rep! I had already entered into a contract with another company so I felt a little awkward when I realized it was her calling from another number...a Florida number. I apologized for calling her and told her it was by mistake, she obviously missed that. She asked me if I got a voicemail from 'the owner' of the company (I'm thinking that she must have forgot that the owner was her husband). I told her nope...sure didn't. Then she proceeds to tell me that he decided that they were not going to do business in my part of the Charlotte metro area because of an incident that occurred with one of thier technician's trucks where equipment was taken. Good for them in protecting thier workers. I would say...do your homework on this one prior to shelling out any significant coin due to the following 'Red Flags'. 1. Operating under at least two different names in a 3 month time period? 2. Listing multiple addresses (different cities) on website, invoice and/or Angies list? 3. Out of state phone number used as a primary business contact point when service areas listed on the website are all local? 3. Unprofessional punctuality and keeping commitments (if you are going to miss an appointment TALK TO YOUR CLIENT! Funny, I have other properties that are not in transitional areas that need help. 4. Unpublished or blacklisted areas within the Charlotte metro region? Sheez...I wish they would have been a little more up front with me well in advance so as not to waste my time on both days, but after looking at the Red Flags listed above...I might just be better off!
