At the time the work was done, I had pneumonia and was unable to even meet with Mr Gonzales, but we spoke on the phone and I asked for the estimate. His answer was above and he was unable to locate the estimate for me at that time, nor was he able t call back later with the estimate. At no time did he indicate that his crew would ONLY do the tree and not the dead suckers as well, nor did he mention that it might cost more to do the job completely. I verbally gave him the go ahead to take out the tree. About a week later, when the doc had cleared me to get out of the house, I went over to my house to take a look. They had opened the gate of my rather rickety fence, hit it with their trailer and knocked down a portion of the fencing, had dug ruts into my back yard(the ground was wet from the fall rains), broken off a limb from another tree, hacked off the tree trunk, leaving a raised stump in the middle of all the dead suckers. It looked as if an octopus had been beheaded and the legs remained. I ended up calling in a different service to come in and finish the job. Their work was sloppy, ridiculously badly done, as if the crew had shown up hungover on a Monday after spending the weekend drinking and watching football! I had hired them partially because of their reputation in Angie's list as well as trying to save some money with the BIG DEAL. If Mr Gonzales had told me that to do the job properly, it would cost extra, I would have been happy to pay it, for a complete removal of all the tree trunks plus grinding an obviously very large residual set of tree trunks.
Description of Work: I bought a BIG DEAL coupon for four hours of work. I needed a dead tree cut down and removed. I wasn't present when the crew did the evaluation of the job, although Mr Gonzales told me that he had left an estimate with "the lady" at the house, my roommate. I asked her if she had the estimate and she responded that she hadn't spoken to anyone about the tree nor seen an estimate. The tree was surrounded by suckers that had grown into a huge bent over mess. It didn't occur to me that the the "supposed estimate" didn't take those into consideration as well, even if total removal had required going over the coupon cost.

These guys are good! In a little over three hours they completed the work, cleaned everything and hauled it all away. It was as if no one had ever been here. Very courteous, respectful and professional. We'd call them again in a heartbeat. And the 10 percent Angie's List discount was very helpful, too.
Description of Work: Promptly showed up for an estimate and were out the next day to do the work, which included cutting down two medium-sized trees, one in the backyard rather tricky against a retaining wall and very near a neighbor's storage shed. .

I woke to find a tree snapped off 20 feet above the ground and leaning on another, both of them threatening the house. I called Gonzalez and they were there within 30 minutes, gave me an estimate, went back to their shop and got their gear and had the tree down in time for a home showing I had that afternoon. They were quick and professional. The two trees were very dangerous and they dropped them in such a way that they missed my porch, house and fence, which sounds easy until you realize they had to drop the trees in a corner of my fence line and had only 3 feet of clearance on any side of the tree once it was on the ground. These guys are good. Use them.

The team showed up a week to ten days later and worked very efficiently. I was amazed at the precision of the Bobcat driving. They took down the trees quickly and while they had me worried about the Princess tree, they took it down without any problems. The stump grinding was well done and they made quick work of the brush pile. Like I said, they did use a Bobcat, and they are not kind to the ground beneath them, especially when making turns. I didn't much care since they were mostly on a natural forest floor, but if you have a manicured turf lawn you may want to talk about it beforehand. The whole process was over in about 2 hours and only a few small piles of saw dust was left. They removed all the trees plus raked up leaves and small branches/twigs. I was very happy with their work and would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: We had recently moved a small farm with a wooded lot that hadn't been kept up very well, and a large tree had broken during last winter's snow storms, so we needed that and many other small to medium trees plus a lot of brush and saplings removed that we had cut ourselves. I bought 2 Angie's List "groupons" ($99 for $200 worth of work) for Gonzales based on their Angie's List rating and arranged a quote. They sent a very nice guy out who went around the house with me and figure out what we could afford to do. We wound up getting quoted $825 to remove the half of the large (14" trunk diameter) winged elm that broke in the snow, 3 (8"-10") sweet gums, a very large Princess Tree (12"-14") that was growing right up against the house and messing with the foundation, and a mimosa tree (10") doing much the same thing. We also had the mimosa's stump ground and a large brush pile (6' high 30' long) removed. They even threw in a downed tree removal since it was right near the pile. One of the driving factors in price appeared to be the location of the trees. All the ones we had done were fairly accessible to both the crew and a bobcat and the big brush pile was out by our road. We wanted a large pine removed but its location proved more then we could afford for this job. So when I gave him the groupon I paid an extra $425 on top of the $198 I had already paid. It turned into a nice 25% discount and I got a lot of stuff taken care of.

I called them 2 weeks before t he deal ran out. The guy came out to give me an estimate. On the initial quote I read that said they would work anywhere in a specific area that was noted. I printed out the certificate and after you purchase the certificate it says it has to be 40 miles from a certain zip code which I did not notice. I bought $100 worth of certificate for $200 worth of tree trimming. I have 2 acres of property with a lot of trees. He said what it would cost and kind of raised the price. He said they had to do a lot of work to make it worth our while. He lowered it a little bit when I said I couldn't afford it. I told them about the certificate and he said they already discounted it. He scribbled all over the paper, it wasn't a proper estimate. First he wanted to charge me $2000 then he went down to $1200. I really heard a lot when he said they have to make it worth their while. I told him the only day I could be there is on a Friday. He said they would get back to me with a call. I didn't hear from him for about 10 days. On a Tuesday he called and said he would be coming the first thing in the morning. I called back immediately and said I wouldn't be there. My daughter and I live here alone with a lot of possessions that were out in a fenced area and they needed to be supervised. He said he couldn't be there but he would send the workers. Apparently he speak English and the other workers don't. He called me the next morning and said they were on the way and I told him I left him a message that it had to be on a Friday. He said they were at my front gate and I said no they aren't. I never heard back from them. He said he had been doing this his whole life, he also said he was an alcoholic but he hadn't drank in a while. They were a major disappointment.

We got one of Angie's Deals for tree removal and that is how we learned of this operation. They came out and removed one dead tree and half of another. They cut up all the wood and removed it. They also cleaned up a pile of debris in our driveway that had been sitting there for weeks. They were courteous and on-time. They worked quickly. They did an excellent job of clean-up and they also provided an estimate for two other trees that we may need to have removed. They did an excellent job and we will hire them again when we take the other trees down.

We bought the Angie's list deal for tree removal, which covered 2 of the 4 trees we needed cut down. They gave us a fair price on the other two. The main problem was the scheduling -I'm sure they were swamped between the deal and the hurricane, but we couldn't get them to tell us when they were coming. Finally got a call in the morning, had to take the afternoon off of work to meet them and then they didn't show up. They made up for it by arriving first thing Saturday morning, but again, with little or no notice. We hired them again to remove the stumps (another deal) and a similar thing happened. We ended up not being there when they arrived (because the time and day kept changing) so we didn't get all the stumps removed that we wanted. The work they did was good, they cleaned up after themselves and were friendly and professional

Called Gonzalez Tree Care on Tues., July 26 and left message. Call returned within two hours. Set an appointment for an estimate at 3:00 that afternoon. Brian arrived shortly after 3 pm and I told him exactly what I wanted removed--the giant pecan, the mature pine and a few smaller trees along the back and sides of the house, plus one or two from the front yard. Brian examined each tree individually, discussed the pros and cons of removal with me, suggested trimming and elevation on some of the smaller trees rather than removal which made all the difference in appearance. He itemized each tree and what would be done on the estimate which he provided before he left. Called two other companies for estimates. By the end of the day July 27, I called Brian and told him his estimate was right on with the Angie's list discount and asked whether he could be present when the job was to be done. He said the crew was very good, but he would come by to explain every thing that we had talked about. We scheduled the job for Wed., Aug. 3. I was told the crew would arrive between 8:30 and 9:00. They arrived at 8:30 with lots of equipment and manpower. I talked with the leader and reviewed what I had told Brian and Brian arrived as promised within a half hour. He also reviewed what needed to be done and then left. The crew worked diligently from 9:00 until 3:00. It was a very tricky job on the huge old pecan tree situated in the back corner of my lot so near my house, but they accomplished the removal without incident. It was quite an undertaking, but they were able to leave smaller trees all around it intact.
Description of Work: Cut & removed one giant pecan tree from back yard. Cut and removed one popular and two oaks with broken tops with vines. Cut and removed one fully mature pine in front yard. Trimmed and elevated four trees in front yard and two pin oaks on side yard. Removed dead wood from two pin oaks and pines along driveway. All large wood hauled away from property and smaller limbs chipped and removed by truck.

We purchased tree stump removal services from this company using Angie's List Big Deal - $99 for $200 worth of work. The company came out to review what we wanted done (8 small-to-medium-sized stumps removed) and told us the total charge (including the $99 we spent on The Big Deal) would be $250. (This does sort of make us wonder if sometimes service providers use The Big Deal as a shell game, by the way.) By then we had purchased The Big Deal so we went ahead with it. When Gonzalez staff came to remove the stumps, they were on-time and efficient - the entire stump removal process took 1/2 hour for all 8 stumps (again bringing into question the total charge). The main problem we had with the company besides the overall price and the fact that we got stuck having already purchased The Big Deal, removing any negotiating leverage, is that we had trouble reaching them - they did not return our calls or emails even after repeated attempts. When they finally did call us back, we learned that the specific equipment they needed to use at our home was under repair, but it would have been nice to have received notice of this after we called them the first time. They did a good and thorough job, however.

They were very good about coming out to do an estimate, and the price was in line with past experiences we have had with tree removal, and actually a little cheaper than some places with fixed minimum amounts just to remove a single tree (we had them price one tree as well as both trees). I scheduled a date to have them come out and they arrived a little before 9am, and 45 minutes later they were done and gone. The only thing I would have liked was an idea of when they might show up, but since I was planning on being home most of the day anyway it wasn't a huge deal.
Description of Work: Had two medium sized pine trees in small wooded area of backyard that were leaning and we wanted cut down. Angie's list Big Deal for $200 worth of service for $99 was perfect timing.

They were VERY fast - too fast really. They dropped several trees on other lawn fixtures (mailbox, rock landscaping wall, fence) and nearly took out my porch with a tree they lost control of. They did replace the mailbox, but it was installed crooked. They knocked $200 off of price to cover the slate rock retaining wall. During the job they continued to work during a thunderstorm (seemed VERY dangerous) and no one spoke English very well to communicate with my wife (who was home during the work).

I left several messages and had to write customer service for AL before I got a reply. My bradford pear needed to be trimmed and shaped. They did trim it and cleaned all of the fallen branches, however the shape of the tree is not what I expected. It's flat on top and sort of reminds me of a bowl instead of a pear. Also several dead limbs are in the tree, too high up for me to get out. Next time I'll be more specific.

I was not at home while the work was going on but neighbors said that they were here all day and working diligently. One unavoidable problem that I had not foreseen was that so many large logs being dragged from the back to the front yard with whatever vehicle they used created a rut which had to be filled in with topsoil, creating an additional expense. But, removing so many large trees growing so close to the house eased my mind about a possible disaster caused by those trees hitting the house during a hurricane, or just tipping over in a windstorm.
Description of Work: Gonzales Tree Company took down seven large trees in our back yard which were very close to the house. The house is 3 stories high at the pace where we had so many large trees growing, they also cut down a very large tree that was growing on the back deck (the back deck had been built around this large tree). They dragged pieces of the trees to the street where they had a very large log splitter truck which disposed of the logs. They ground the stumps of all the trees into sawdust so that we could plant new things there, after the sawdust was mixed with topsoil.. They cut up and dragged out a very large maple that had already fallen of its own accord. They had to work very carefully so that nothing hit the house as they were felling the trees. The boom of the giant pieces hitting the ground did crack a window in our sunroom though. He agreed to pay for half the expense of replacing the window. He and his crew of 3 men were here for about seven hours, so that while the price we paid was high, the work done was difficult and time consuming. He even offered to prune a very large crape myrtle which happened to be near the log truck on the street for half the usual price of such pruning, and we took him up on the offer, so that is included in the price we paid.
