F Scott Davis Chimney Sweep Inc

I called F Scott Davis to inspect and, if necessary, clean a chimney on a 32 year old ranch house. I was concerned the mortar might be deteriorating after so many years of very, very hot wood fires. I was concerned about future safety. The workman briefely looked in the chimney from above and below. This roof is low to the ground and has a 4/12 pitch. You could sun bathe on it if you wanted to. I'm on the roof of the house before every rain to clean gutters (60++ yr. old female). So getting on the roof poses no hazard. After less than 5 minutes, he told me it didn't need cleaning and the charge was $99. I asked him when he was going to do the inspection. He said that was it. No camera or lighted mirrors were used to check the inside of the chimney for possible damage. I immediately called the company to complain and get an explanation. I was only able to leave a message on their answer machine. I went to the door when he rang with the invoice. He was grinning from from ear to ear. I told him I was waiting for a call back from the company, since I didn't feel he had done a thorough inspection. He told me if he used a camera it was considered cleaning and I would be charged $175. I was told when I made the appointment that an inspection alone, if cleaning was not needed, would be $90. He became really angry with me. He vehemently told me not to bother his wife, since she was in chemotherapy. (I had no idea who his wife was.) He yelled that I was a crazy woman as he stormed off without any further discussion. I obviously was not given an accurate description of what this company considered an inspection when I made the appointment. On their website they do mention using a camera. But, I did explain the need for a thorough inspection to check for possible damage to the masonry flue due to hot fires and the age of the house when I made the appointment. It is not possible to check for cracks or mortar damage by simply glancing up the flu without any visualization aids. I have subsequently called other companies to verify this.

They are extremely thorough. They worked well and extremely neat and clean. They showed up a few minutes early for the appointment.

Contacted provider by email. Shortly after email provider contacted me by phone. We scheduled a time for provider to come over to clean and inspect chimney. The day of scheduled appointment Scott Davis was running early and called to ask for permission to come early. When he arrived he inspected chimney first from the outside then came in and inspected the chimney's interior. After inspection and pictures he cleaned the chimney. After cleaning he took after pictures for comparsion and for our records to show how clean it should be. He put down drop clothes and took precautions to ensure all furniture and surrounding area stayed clean and free of dislodged ash. Scott was professional and knowledgable of chimneys and gave me suggestions on when I could expect another cleaning and for signs I may need to do additional maintenance.

Wonderful. I had hired Scott to sweep my chimney and install a chimney cap. He came out and inspected the chimney and installed the cap. He did not need to sweep the chimney so he did not charge me for that. I expected to pay $500 and only spent $330.

When I called the company and spoke to one of the employees, she could not have been nicer and more helpful! She explained that we really did not need a chimney sweep, but need a gas technician to look at our fireplace. She recommended a man they work closely with who was amazing! So thankful for honest people!

I called Scott because of the past work he has done for me and the reviews on Angie's List. He is great. The first available appointment was about a week out, so I accepted it. Later that day I got a call the Scott had a cancelation and so I was moved up to the next day. Scott arrived about 15 minutes early. A large tree branch had fallen on my chimney and I wanted to make sure that there was no structural damage. He checked out my concern and told me there was no damage. He then told me that our chimney was separating from the house. He took pictures of the separation and explained what steps that I needed to take to handle the situation. He did not perform the work needed, but gave me some great ideas of how to handle the situation and to hopefully save money. Because of the potential for a major cost to repair the foundation and chimney situation, Scott gave me a discount on the chimney inspection.

Responded quickly to my initial phone call to set up time for chimney cleaning. Called to say he may be 1/2 hour late, but as it turned out he was right on time after all. Put down drop cloths at front door to move his equipment in on wheeled dolly. Discussed having chimney done in spring as the rates are lower then. Great job!

This is the way I wish all service providers acted. I called on Monday to schedule an appointment for a chimney cleaning. They were able to schedule me for service two days later. After introducing himself and gathering the necessary equipment he needed, Scott went to my chimney. In under a minute he assessed that I did not need my chimney cleaned. As a result, he only charged me for a service call instead of the full cleaning amount. In addition, he provided me information on how, if I use him, I could reduce future charges (I'm intentionally keeping this obscure so I don't broadcast his secrets). I appreciate an individual who considers my wallet when performing services. If that wasn't enough, he then spent the next half hour or so answering my many questions about using the fireplace. My questions ranged from type of wood to frequency of cleaning. While I kept asking my questions he never indicated he was in a rush to leave. I appreciate that - because i have never had a wood burning fireplace.

It took a couple days for them to get to me, so the person with whom I talked when making the appointment offered a suggestion that helped diminish the smell from the dead animal in the meantime. They arrived early for the appointment, and set up a tarp and vacuum before beginning. They cleaned out the fireplace, including the little ash removal trapdoor and path that leads to the outside. They cleaned out the lower part of the chimney (some pine straw and the dead animal) and told me that the chimney looked good and did not need further cleaning and was not in need of repair. They cleaned up nicely and the only way I could tell they had visited was that the fireplace was cleaner and the smell from the animal was leaving (took a little while for that to go away completely). They did not have the best price of those I considered, but they were helpful over the phone and the service was great. If I were still burning wood or other fuel needful of regular flue cleanings, I would use them again.

My experience with the work done by the cleaners from F. Scott Davis Chimney Sweep Inc. Company was fine. I went with them because of a number of good recommendations from Angie’s List. Also, they are fairly close to where I live. They did a very good job. They came out the very next morning I called. I would use them again in the future.

Scott arrived early, assessed the two problems, and advised me of my options. He then made the repairs per my choice. His work was outstanding, and I was surprised by his pricing, which was very fair. I would definitely use him again.

The work went as planned, which is it went great. There should never be a problem again with the chimney leaking water. Scott Davis explained to me in detail what he had done, and explained that the flues that are original to the house are actually too small to safely vent the size chimney we have if we burned wood logs in it. He suggested gas logs as a solution and and gave me the name of a reputable person to do this job. He also showed me in detail how to clean and paint the inside of the chimney, the part we can see inside the house, so it would look good. He was very personable and I felt he went above and beyond what I had expected.

I had previously called F. Scott Davis Chimney Sweep for an inspection and cleaning of my two chimneys. My home was originally built in 1986 and I've lived there since 2004. Neither of my chimneys had been cleaned or inspected since I've owned the home. When the inspectors arrived, I watched as they inspected both of my chimneys and took lots of photos. The mortar between the brick inside both chimneys was badly deteriorated and completely missing in some areas. I later called F. Scott Davis again to have both chimneys repaired. Scott and another of his employees arrived at my house to replace the mortar in the two chimneys and installed two new chimney caps. They arrived on time and completed the work. After the work was finished, Scott advised me a couple of days later that my mortar caps on each chimney were deteriorated, cracked and leaking. He had again taken many photos to document the damage. When asked, he provided me another estimate to repair the mortar caps. This cost another $600.85 but I asked him to replace the mortar caps as well. After all the work was complete Scott told me there was nothing more that I needed to be concerned about regarding chimney problems. He and his crew were polite, professional. They used tarps to protect my floor and was careful to not make a mess inside my home. I would recommend F. Scott Davis Chimney Sweep to anyone who asks for a reference. I will also use them again in the future. Great people.. Great company..

As an out-of-town landlord, I hired them to inspect and clean the chimney on a townhome I recently purchased. They were prompt, courteous, and professional. Based on the inspection, they determined the chimney did not need to be cleaned at this time, and that saved me about $50. I would definitely hire them fir the cleaning in 2012.

Scott was very prompt, courteous and professional. He cleaned out the chimney making sure not to allow any debris to get onto the carpet. He took some time to answer questions I had about our pre-fab fireplace and gave me advice on how to get the best performance. Overall I was very pleased with the service and will use F Scott Davis again.

These people arrived on time, they worked through the rain, and got the job completed when promised. I have scheduled them to comback and sweep & inspect the chimney. They did a great job.

These guys are the best around. I have had them look at several homes I have listed and they have found some major problems for me. They alway have a way of repairing or restoring the fire place and there reports and photos are great. I give them my highest recommendation. You won't go wrong calling Scott Davis. Sometimes you will get Scott on the call but the times I've had employees meet me they were super good too. Scott hires really good people.

My experience with F. Scott Davis Chimney Sweep was so bad I sent them away before any work was performed today. Two men showed up at my home. One immediately went into my home, stomped on my hearth and stated this is not up to code. Then started making statements like "you have a problem" and "I don't want you to burn your house down". Followed by a presumption that there were no cleanouts on my chimney, when in fact there are two. I then watched as he went outside, looked at my fireplace and just started shaking his head. I have an 11 year old masonary fireplace and he never even looked inside. I finally just went outside and said if this is too much of a problem, you can just leave, and they did. This same company performed a cleaning previously and did not advise me that anything was wrong. Nothing has changed since the last time they were here. The experience was terrible and this company will never do any work for me again. Apparently you can not trust their employees to be knowledgeable in their field. One employee thinks my fireplace is safe and the other is saying I'm going to burn my house down.

Great. We are disappointed that our chimney is damaged, but glad that such a thorough inspection found the damage before we used the fireplace.

Their bill was not cheap but they did clean the chimney, produced a full report on the whole chimney, including a video of the whole inside of the chimney and showing each problem (cracked tiles, missing mortar, etc.). The bill was on the high side due to the high chimney (over 2 stories) and was originally going to be $535.00 but the chimney cap did not have to be replaced and they returned the first check I wrote for $535.00 and reduced the bill to $340.00. They could have gotten away with the higher charges (I was desperate) but were honest and fair. All in all I would recommend them highly because of their professionalism, thoroughness and the over-all excellence of the work they performed. It wasn't cheap but I got what I paid for. Thanks boys!

Everything they said was accurate. My husband dealt with them and said they were great. They gave him advice on how to clean the stove and what to price it at. He went over and above. The cost was well worth it. They did a great job.
