Scott was so professional. He showed up on time, and gave an estimate for putting a cap on the fireplace. The roof was very high up, he promised to return with a 50 foot ladder and attempt to install the cap. He told me of all the possible outcomes, assuring me he would give the job his best effort to safely install the chimney cap. Success! I would heartily recommend Scott to anyone searching for a true professional who takes pride in his work and is a wonderful communicator.

We asked him to come and do an inspection/cleaning. After conducting an inspection, he told us that our flue was missing a part but the chimney did not cleaning. We asked him to clean it anyway since we just bought the house and it had been sitting empty for several months. There was a musty smell and it was dirty (bugs, cobwebs, etc.) He said that the musty smell wouldn't go away with a cleaning. I thought he was very fair and made sure expectations were clear. We asked him to clean the chimney anyway. He did and it looks great (still smells musty though - like he said). He gave us a quote to repair the flue, which we opted not to do right now. We'll consider it in the fall perhaps, or whenever we decide we want to use the fireplace. We were happy with this company.

I knew I had birds and thought if best to let them fly away...until the smell came! Turns out they all died and joined the two dead squirrels on top of the damper. Called today. They came today. Super job done!

Most of the details are above. The reason the insulation was provided is because I had more than 3 squirrels and 1 DUCK fall into my fireplace.
Description of Work: I contacted F. Scott Davis due to a malfunctioning chimney. The came right on time and proceeded to examine my chimney. They said that my chimney lacked a filter and, unfortunately it was too high for them to service. They proceeded to insulate the inside and recommended someone to contact. There was no charge for their service. I was impressed. M Elliott

I've been a homeowner for over 30 years. Always had a fireplace. For the last 25 years (two homes), wood has produced most of our Winter heat. I thought I was being conciensious about keeping the chimney in good shape because I had a sweep come out on a regular basis. Usually, it was someone who offered a low price. I only wish I had met Scott before the fire. Turns out a lot chimney sweeps just show up, get dirty, and take your money. Scott is certified and very knowledgeable. His methods were miles above what I had seen others do. He may not tell you what you want to hear, but it will be what you need to hear. If you can't get Scott, make sure you deal with someone certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America.
Description of Work: Inspected the flue after a chimney fire damaged the house. Accuratly diagnosed what had occured. Removed and disposed of insert. Cleaned and photographed (video inspection) flue. Prepared written report for insurance company.

Scott arrived on time and even had his own drop cloth to wipe his feet (it was raining). He listened to my concerns regarding my fireplace (old/just bought the house). Scott proceeded to share his knowledge on my type of fireplace and educate me as to what I was seeing. After he completed the exterior inspection, he came back inside and spent a great deal of time showing me the pictures he had taken and his professional opinion on my fireplace's current status. He answered all my questions and gave me some "fireplace 101" education I greatly appreciated. He said there was no immediate services I needed to do for my fireplace other than cleaning leaves from around it but provides me with a game plan for the future. We will definitely be using his services when we do need to have the chimney repaired / cleaned and will be recommending him to friends:)

I contacted the company and quickly received an appointment with details of how much the inspection would be and how long it would take. Scott was punctual, efficient and cleaned up thoroughly after his work. He gave me a quote to replace some loose brinks and damaged mortar, but explained that it wasn't a safety issue and recommended another solution that was more economical for us, but meant less work/money for him. I was very impressed and appreciative and will use him from now on and will recommend him to friends.

We called this company to clean our chimney in the fall of 2011. They showed us how our fireplace insert, installed by the firm from whom we purchased it, had been installed improperly and not to code. We had wondered why it was working so poorly. It was difficult to light, produced lots of smoke and didn't burn well. Since they needed parts after determining our problem, they left and returned at a later date. At that time they installed a chimney sleeve which required removing and replacing the fireplace insert. As well they replaced our chimney cap. Since then we have had them service the chimney in the spring. They are prompt, professional and the job they do is excellent. They are not the cheapest around but their prices are fair and they guarantee their work.

Scott came by today to take a second look at some water intrusion issues I have around the base of my fireplace/chimney. I thought it may be my chimney... actually was hoping it was the chimney. But Scott was very honest in telling me that it looked like my water issues were more to do with the foundation. He listed all the things we could do with my chimney to eliminate it as a possibility, but honestly recommended that I get a foundation guy in first. Scott is an awesome professional... one of the most honest folks I've met and this is the second time he's foregone doing unnecessary work which would have brought money into his business, and given the honest feedback about what the true likelihood of the problem is that every home owner really wants to know.

Great! Great communications, professional service.
Description of Work: Scott arrived early, provided floor coverings for the entryway and family room, I have a Vermont Castings woodstove inset into a large fireplace. I also have a tall masonry chimney. He found an incorrect cimney cap which was old and rusted, and replaced it with a new stainless cap that will maximize efficiency. He cleaned the chimney and the flue pipe, cleaned up his work area and left everything spotless. He then told me based on my equipment and birning patterns I could extend my service intervals to 2 years, which in effect paid for the new cap.

As with every previous experiences with F. Scott Davis Chimney Sweep, Scott was punctual, professional, and courteous once again. We have been using F. Scott Davis Chimney Sweep since we have had our fireplace installed and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone needing a chimney sweep or any other chimney related issues. Their catchy slogan alone was enough to select their company over other chimney sweep businesses ("Your ash is mine"), but we knew we found the right guy when he promptly & professionally serviced our home. We had one negative experience prior to discovering them, and the difference between the previous chimney sweep and theirs was night and day! His rates are very reasonable, and we are very satisfied that we have found a reliable, professional chimney sweep, and will continue to use them as long as we own our home. We give Scott & Sue Davis an A+. :)

Quality and service are not as good as I expected from reading others' reviews. The cost is much higher than what I was told when making the appointment. A couple of reasons given by Scott were: 1) my chimney is too high; 2) I have a high-end chimney so it would cost more to clean. When I was walking dog this morning, I don't see my chimney is any higher than others'. The way he cleaned (simply took out all the debris from fireplace) doesn't seem to have anything to do with the kind of chimney I have.I feel he was rushing a little bit (he was running late from previous appointment and has more after mine), had very little conversation with me (I was hoping he could tell me more as he did to some other reviewers).

Response from F Scott Davis Chimney Sweep Inc
We are sorry that this client was not happy with our service. We strive to try to satisfy all our customers. I can only address their complaint as they present it. 1) The cost is much higher than what I was told when making the appointment (over the phone) Response: Over the phone, and without seeing the chimney structure, we can only quote what our standard costs and prices are for a "typical" style chimney. This chimney was exceptionally tall and was situated between a set of decking staircases that made the attempt to get to the top a little "harrowing". I charge for the "harrowing" part! The fact that we could do this at all was, even if I say so myself, a feat. Please keep in mind that I have been doing this for over 30 years. Also, the chimney cap that was needed to keep the animals (birds, the reason they called us) out of the system was a "multi-flue" style cap that could cover the Isokern chimney top. Isokern is made in Sweden and is a specific kind of chimney made from volcanic rock. Again, not typical. 2) I have a high-end chimney so it would cost more to clean. Response: (High end? You bet! Remember the Swedish volcanic rock?) We told them that with what they were describing to us (over the phone) it would cost $195.00 to sweep this. On site, even though the living room couch was backed up against the fireplace, making it hard to reach and sweep. The fact that I had to work around a set of installed gas logs. The fact that I removed four (4) 5 gallon buckets of dead birds and the associated droppings. I charged them $195.00. I can not see why they are upset at me charging exactly what they were told it was going to be even though this was far beyond a "normal" sweeping. 3) When I was walking dog this morning, I don't see my chimney is any higher than others'. The way he cleaned (simply took out all the debris from fireplace) doesn't seem to have anything to do with the kind of chimney I have. Response: His neighbors chimneys have absolutely nothing to do with this chimney! That one is coming out of right field. Four (4) 5 gallon buckets of bird do-do is not a "simply" thing. 4) I feel he was rushing a little bit (he was running late from previous appointment and has more after mine), had very little conversation with me (I was hoping he could tell me more as he did to other reviewers). Response: We performed our tasks at this job as we do all our jobs. We completed this sweep and inspection and cap install in the time that it took to do this sweep and inspection and cap install. We did not "rush". Yes we were late. We knew we were going to be running late ahead of our appointed time so we called them and asked if being late would be any problem and they said no, no problem. After we were done, I asked him if he had any questions and he did. He asked how the cap was installed. I told him. He asked about the top of the chimney and why I had to use the cap I did. I told him. So the part about not having a "conversation" about his chimney is not correct. I wish to add something that may have played a role in why they are unhappy with us. He was upset that we had gone to the wrong house. Our clients home did not have any identifying house numbers, he said that "he gets that a lot". He was upset that I would not negotiate the pricing. He wanted to set the price before I had written up the estimate. When I told him that it "cost what it costs" and that I do not bargain. He did not seem to like that I was so straight forward with him. I gave him the prices and he agreed to what I presented him. He gave me permission to proceed! I did not perform this work and then spring the costs on him. He had the right to not have me do anything. When a customer does not understand the difference between what it is that they "need" vs. what it is that they "want", it always runs afoul. I have done this a very long time and I know that we treat out customers like gold. So you decide, I would love to have your business!

He used fast drying concrete to fix it and the smell spread through my entire home. I was having a guest over soon after and he told me that if I put a heater inside the fireplace that it would dry out and the odor would go away. It took about 12 hours before the smell went away. He was very conscientious and hard-working but I just wished he would have warned me about the smell from that material beforehand. I would definitely use him again.

He was very punctual and extremely knowledgable. He inspected the chimney, looked at my water issue, and gave me some advice on what the cause might be. He concluded that the chimney did not need to be swept at this time, and he only charged me for the inspection. It was money very well spent. He was great and I will have him back to make some chimney repairs shortly. Very high level of integrity, as well.
Description of Work: I am having issues with leaking in my greatroom where the fireplace is, and it finally dawned on me that perhaps it had something to do with the chimney/fireplace. I asked Mr. Davis to inspect the chimney and sweep it if required.

I was very pleased with Scott's punctuality and service. He is very knowledgeable in his field, and I never felt like he would try to sell me services I did not need. I originally considered buying a stainless steel cap since it had a lifetime guarantee, but Scott told me that the inexpensive black cap would be just fine since I hardly used my fireplace as it is. I appreciated his advice -- and it helped to lower my overall cost.
Description of Work: I went to the website to request an appointment and was promptly contacted for scheduling. I had a problem with chimney sweeps nesting in my chimney, and I started to smell an odor coming from the fireplace, so I suspected a bird had died. The receptionist was very friendly and professional, and she was able to set a next day appointment for me at 8:00 a.m. I dropped my daughter off at the babysitter early in the morning and arrived back at my home at 7:45 a.m. When I pulled into my driveway, Scott was already there waiting for me! He and his partner began work right away. He made sure to cover my carpet with protective sheets so that any of the equipment he brought in would not dirty my carpet. Scott did a quick look at my chimney and confirmed that I need it cleaned. While he worked on sweeping out all of the pine straw and a nest of dead baby birds, his partner was outside installing my new cap. All in all, the work took less than 30 minutes.

Scott arrived 45 min. early and was finished by the original appointment time. He was very through and informed us of every step along the way. He cleaned our chimney and was very neat and put down canvases on my carpets. We also had a chimney cap put on to keep out the birds that have been coming in for a few years. Our chimney is very high and he had to use a 50 foot ladder to reach it. That cost more, but he informed us ahead of time to see if we wanted to proceed. Very impressed with his service and would recommend him to others and use him again.
