Contractor was recommended by another contractor from Angie's list ( I will refer to him as Mr. R). Thus far Mr. R is doing a good job. Contractor stated he had experience working with cabinets and could build up my current cabinet to meet the weight of a quartz countertop. When Mr. R arrived to build a rail, the contractor named began taking down my current countertop and was going to put a hole in the wall because he stated there was no stud. I stopped him and asked about a contract or an agreement before he begins any work. i had no estimates or costs as he was taking on a job without my approval. Once he gave me the price $30 and hour, I agreed to have him put a stud in the wall with the help of Mr. R. At the end of the day, July 18, 2013, he stated I owed him $30.00 for his work. We agreed to have him come out next week when Mr. R. was here to put in a door. This changed when he wanted to finish it the next day, July 19, 2013. I asked him what it would cost for the entire job. He stated in front of Mr. R that $200 would be the final cost. It needed to be in cash so he would not have to report it. I stated I needed a receipt. The next day, he came out and finished the cabinet- it appears to be sturdy at this time and then stated that the cost was $220. I asked why he increased the cost when I had only $200 in cash. He said I could write him a check for the difference. He was paid but I informed him that this is bad business practice to increase the cost once a job was done. I will have someone come out and look at the cabinet prior to the counter being purchased. He is not on Angie's list prior to this.
