Response from Carpet City
Mr. (removed member name) hardwood floor was completed in August 11, 2005. The finish on the hardwood purchased had seven coats of aluminum oxide. Aluminum oxide offers a dense, tough-as-nails sandpaper consistency that boosts the protective capabilities of a standard UV-cured urethane finish. Aluminum oxide is used on higher quality wood floors, which often come with a twenty-five year warranty. Kraus Hardwood the manufacturer of the flooring would have been very interested in a finish that "immediately" starting wearing off. The suggested time to acclimate hardwood before installation is between 48-96 hours the longer the better. The hardwood was received in our temperature controlled warehouse July 11, 2005. Ernest Elkins our hardwood installer with over 30 year's installation experience, installed Mr. (removed member name) floor August 1, 2005. Keeping a steady temperature inside the house after the hardwood is installed is as important as the acclimation prior to installation. We have no way of knowing if a temperature between 65 and 80 degrees was maintained. Sub-floor refers to the bottom-most structural floor underneath the decorative "finished" floor. If there was a structural problem with joists or sub-floor, installing hardwood cannot correct squeaks. Stonewalling is a refusal to communicate or cooperate. Carpet City has done everything possible to answer all Mr. (removed member name) concerns. We realized in June of 2008 we needed a mediator, to help us communicate with Mr. (removed member name). We hired Patricia Harvey an Asheville attorney. Given the impact negative reviews can have on a company's online reputation, it's not surprising that businesses are beginning to take legal action when they feel they are unfairly targeted or falsely misrepresented by customers.
