I called Wooten Electric on Wednesday, December 10, to see about having someone come to put in a switch for a new garbage disposal installation. The person who answered the phone told me that she would try to have someone come out that afternoon or Thursday. If that couldn't be arranged, she would call me back and set up an appointment for the following week. I heard nothing further from anyone at Wooten Electric that week. I waited all day Monday for a call but heard nothing. Tuesday morning, I called back and asked what was going on with the appointment for my installation. The person I spoke with this time was not the same individual I spoke with previously, and she knew nothing. She said she would call "the crew" and see when they could come out. After a couple of hours, she called back to say that someone would be by that afternoon and he would call before he came. Finally, at about 4PM that day, Tuesday, Tony showed up - without calling ahead as had been promised. He evaluated the situation and told us he didn't think that the switch could be installed. My husband pointed out that the wiring was already there - all he had to do was hook up the switch. Tony conceded that it might be possible but he didn't have the proper type or color of switch to do the job that day. We asked him for an estimate but he couldn't give us one saying he didn't know anything about the fees. (This from someone who had been working for this company for 15 years!) He called his boss, described the situation as he understood it at that time, and was told that the fee would be $175.00 The next day, Wednesday, he came back and installed the switch - the wiring was already there as the previous owners had already set it up for disposal installation; all he had to do was hook the wiring up to the switch. It was a much easier job than he thought it would be. But before he figured out how to do it, he cut an unnecessary hole in the wall underneath the sink. He agreed that the hole he cut was unnecessary and said that he would write up the work order charging us for one hour of work and the switch - about $80 or $90. So that's the amount we were expecting to be billed. Today we received a bill for $175 for this job. I am upset that I had to call twice to set up any appointment with this company, and that I'm being charged $175 for such a simple job! Especially after being told that I would only be charged for an hour of work and a switch - to say nothing about the unnecessary hole that was was made in the wall under my sink. Based on my experience with this company, I would not recommend them to anyone.
