I contracted with Bill Ellis in December of 2013 to totally renovate and repair my vacation home in the NC mountains. Moisture is an issue in that location and I had multiple tasks to be done to repair water damaged wood and renovate my house. Bill came highly recommended from a friend who lives in the area. Bill worked with me over a period of 9 months on just about every type of work I needed done. He is a general contractor who also has a plumbing and electrical license. The project went well and I was impressed by the attention to detail of the bids on all of the tasks I asked for, the fairness of the price and the logical way the work was completed. I visited the site several times but mostly kept in touch via email and pictures of the progress of the work. We had the work completed in about 6 steps or groupings of jobs with a detailed list of every specific task under each grouping. I paid for the work as each grouping was completed. I ordered materials from the Lowes in Boone and Bill was able to pick them up. The tasks I had done included: Fixing improper drainage around the foundation of the house and installing proper drainage, fixing water damaged wood under the floor and restoring the floor to level, putting in insulation under the house and sealing it with a vapor barrier, fixing damaged siding, fixing subflooring and installing a new bamboo floor on the bottom floor of the house, totally renovating the bathroom which included tear out of old shower and wall paper and installing new bathroom, totally renovating the kitchen which included tear out and repair of wall and floors and installation of new cabinets that had been ordered from Lowes, extensive repair of existing deck, construction of a new set of stairs and renovation of an existing set of stairs for the house, putting in a two new decks and a new entrance to the second floor, putting in drywall in the bottom floor of the house and crown moulding, painting the exterior and interior of the house, putting in new outlets in the kitchen to code, putting in a number of new exterior lights, staining the new and existing decks, installing several new screen doors and one door, and putting in a new screen porch. I could not be more pleased with every aspect of the work I had done. There was attention to every detail. This provider cares deeply about the quality of his work. The bids for every project were very fair and the work was completed in a timely manner. Although I was not present during most of the work, I was kept appraised of progress through emails and pictures from the provider. It was a very collaborative process with Bill offering several very good suggestions on how to accomplish what I wanted but Bill listened and responded to what I wanted. He tried to save me money without compromising quality at every turn. My neighbors have all marveled at the transformation of my house.
