When we started, we did not know if we would rent it again full time, keep it for ourselves, sell it or go for a seasonal rental. When we saw the finished product, we knew we would not be selling. It went seasonal, and quite successfully. We are now enjoying it in the off-season and LOVING IT!!! Keith and his crew were most pleasant to deal with, and considering that this was a long-distance reno for US, things went quite well.
The reasons for the lower mark for responsiveness was due to some difficulty getting in touch with him. Keith always got back to me, but not always immediately. Punctuality dealt with the length of time for the entire reno. We started @August, 2013 and were not finished until May, 2014. I know that part of that is due to his very busy schedule. Because the house was empty, I'm sure that his priorities were elsewhere sometimes. I do understand that, but I wish that it had taken less time. I left keys with him, and there was never a trust issue with Keith or any of his workers. THAT is very important to me!
If we need more work done I would definitely use him again (although there's not much else he could do!). I have before and after shots of the house, and would be happy to share. pw

It is rock solid and we are very happy with the quality of work that was performed. They responded to any issues we had with the work, which were very few, and cleaned up after the day was done.

It is great. The quality of their work is above 100%. He has a great crew. Would recommend this construction company to anyone. Always on time. Willing to work with us if we had any little changes to the contract. Followed buildings codes to the letter. Just a great company.

Great to work with. Very dependable

They did a great job. They put a fence for our car back yard, and it was a 300 meter fence which was perfect. They did it in summer, they were great. They were real good. As a matter of fact I am going to have them come to do more work for me. They came in on time, and they worked. It took them couple of days to get it done, but it was done on time. It was right after the big hurricane we had them; it was a total work to do. They came in and got it finished up in a timely manner, even with all the work down there, and to repair the entire foot aisle and other stuff. They did a bang on job and the fence is perfect. It is absolutely perfect, it is leveled and everything. It is a great fence. They did a super job. Mosquitoes were tearing them up, and they were still after. They did an outstanding job. The mosquitoes were getting to them, it was awful, but they did a good job. I thought it was a good price. As a matter of fact I looked around and then talked to others but everybody was more expensive than they were. The quality was great. I can't find fault with anything they did, and they did a super job. You won't believe how level the fence is, it is just perfect. With regards to responsiveness they were spot on. I mean there was a hurricane and they still got it done on time. Anybody doing that kind of work were absolutely maxed out and worked for months, because all of the damage the hurricane did down here. They did exactly what I wanted them to do. I don't know what else to say. I would call them back in summer.

This contractor worked with us from start to finish. We requested several upgrades from the original job estimate, and he was very helpful with recommendations. The work team he had was professional and all work was done to our satisfaction. If you want quality work done, KJ Construction will do that. We are very pleased with our new room.

Our latest home improvement involved a new roof to our 1997 home. The roof was showing major wear due to the ocean environment, past hurricanes, Nor'Easters, and heat. Prior to having the new roof installed, KJ Construction and Remodeling made several patches which immediately corrected minor leaks. But the after effects of Hurricane Irene pushed us to replace the entire roof due to damage. Mr. Dobie provided detailed information, pictures of damaged areas, and suggestions on the type of roof that would be best for this coastal environment.

Once the shingles arrived, the roof was completed within two days. Mr. Dobie inspected the work during and after completion. All old materials were removed from the property. We are very pleased with the new roof.

It started with a DREAM in June 2009. Met Keith through a friend who had just finished building her house. She suggested meeting with Keith. We had met four other contractors previously. We told Keith what we wanted in a floor plan and how much we were willing to spend. He hooked us up with an architecht who drew plans up for us. After about six weeks of modifications we had the house of our dreams on paper. Keith started November 1, 2009. and finished up on June 1, 2010. Keep in mind all this was accomplished over the phone/internet and through pictures he provided us. We did visit about every month to check on progress and discuss any modifications and ideas that had to be done in person. He was very thorough in every detail and brought to our attention things we hadn't thought of. He also has a good knowledge for the area and the types of construction that would be beneficial for the area. Cabinets and floor plan for the upstairs were made later on in the project. We asked if it were possible to have a wall built for a specific piece of furniture. He was so easy to talk to and made suggestions that would fit in with the existing plan. We moved in on June 1st and discussed any issues needing attention. He has been there for us and willing to make us 100%. satisified. Our house is displayed on the "COVER" of the September 2010 issue of "Home Tour of the Outer Banks". It is also going to be in the Parade of Homes on the Outer Banks in October 2010. How many times do you build a million dollar beach cottage and still sing your builder's praises when it is completed! Keith Dobie is such a builder. Keith first came to my attention through his brother, Seth Dobie, my architect who designed the perfect house with a 360 view of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Keith's knowledge and attention to detail as well as his problem-solving abilities rate him well about the average builder. He attentively listened to me about what I wanted in a house and he made it happen! He and his skilled and courteous crew and subcontractors were always thinking of things that would make the house even better than I had envisioned it. His charges were reasonable, and he was watchful to keep my building costs within the budget. I appreciated his hands-on approach to building. He was readily available to answer my questions and concerns and guide me in making the numerous choices that must be made during construction. KJ's work is of the utmost quality. No job is too large or too small. And, Keith holds any subcontractors to the same quality standards as his company. The remodeled deck into a sunroom (2008) was no easy task. The deck is 30 feet above ground and came with challenges related to installing electrical, lighting, windows, removing hurricane shutters, and removal of a massive 8-person hot tub. All of this was accomplished without Keith or Corey coming into our home so as not to disturb our family. Each day, they came up to and left the work site via an outside ladder. They also saved us quite a bit of money by manually removing the hot tub rather than hiring a crane. The finished sunroom is beautiful and has extended our living space. Also in 2008, after consulting with Keith about the heat problems in our home, he had attic vents and a fan installed which made a huge difference in our air conditioning. Finally, we could stop calling the HVAC company because our home was not cooling. The 2009 work of the pergola, soffits, and fascia was excellent and resulted in diminishing the heat over our front door thus reducing air conditioning costs. And the 2009 trim work on the cathedral ceilings -- to hide minor ceiling cracks common to homes in this area -- looks as if it was part of the original ceiling. Also in late 2009, after a Nor'easter, we called upon KJ (Keith) for a minor ceiling leak (not associated with any of their work). Keith took the time to come out immediately -- in spite of many other calls for assistance -- because he knew we had to leave the next day. He made some repairs and insisted on non-payment. He has also come to our home regarding other moisture issues (not associated with any of their work). KJ's work is of the highest quality and professionalism at a very reasonable price.
